This is the type of place you walk in and you know the food is good. The freshness of the smells as well as the decor, makes for a refreshing experience. I came here with some friends curious to know what this place was about. Even though the place is small, the food was totally worth the space. I ended up getting the spicy chicken bento box me tell you everything was perfect. I really enjoyed the freshness of the ginger salad and the light spice of the chicken. The little California rolls were tasty. The only thing that bothered me was the melancholy music that they played which I guess was suppose to make you feel relaxed but to me it only made me feel weird. I typically eat at Rice Blvd. a few times a week, and I am so happy to have it nearby. The people are really pleasant and work hard, and the food is better than I would expect in a casual restaurant like this. The bento boxes are a great deal, the soups I've tried (both ramen and udon) are filling and tasty, and the sushi is solid. Before I moved here they had little sushi cups... Rice Blvd is back!! It definitely definitely definitely is my favorite restaurant in town. They have the best sushi rolls with affordable price! Their kitchen menus are all really tasty too. I literally tried all their menus including all the sushi rolls. I love their beef Bento box. Cherry Blossom is my absolute favorite sushi roll. It was my friend's first time visiting, and she ordered the spicy tuna and Philadelphia roll. She said it was one of the best sushi she ever had. The other she really liked was the Kengo, but the price is much reasonable. They added chicken wings as their new appetizer when they re-opened the restaurant. It's the best wings I ever had. Based on the location and reviews, I thought I would give this place a try. Very small, very casual and seemingly caters to the University of Toledo students. I ordered the Ochard and Holy Toledo rolls at $10.95 each. I thought it was a bit pricey for the "fast food" atmosphere (you order at the register) but was hopeful the quality and size of the rolls would exceed my expectations. I am sorry Rice Blvd, but you over-promised and under-delivered! I guess I have been spoiled by Nagoya located in Levis Commons, Perrysburg. The rolls brought to my table were not much larger than a silver dollar and after spending $23, I left hungry. Rice Blvd is a decent take out sushi place. If you live near campus, it's a nice location for take out sushi. Usually when I want sushi, we have to go pretty far to get take out so it's nice to finally have a place that's nearby. On top of sushi, they have rice dishes (makes sense) plus other appetizers etc. There are 4 main signature dishes you can choose from: blvd plate, bento box, and 2 bibimbap bowls. You then choose your type of meat, rice and sauce. The prices seem reasonable ($7.95 for bibimbap). We tried the Hwae Dup Bop (Korean Chirashi), the Spicy Tuna and California Roll and the Bento Box with Bulgogi. The Bento box is a good deal because you get a salad, 4 pieces of a california roll, a dumpling, and chicken wing all for $8.95. The bulgogi wasn't the best that I've ever had, but it was ok. As for the Hwae Dup Bop, it was pretty good for a take out place. The sushi obviously isn't going to be the same as a sit down fancy sushi restaurant, but it's good enough that I will definitely visit there again. read more

Started with a delicious bowl of miso soup for under $2. Miso isn't much to brag about, but this had a deep, rich flavor, was served hot and avoided the trap some find of just being tasty luke warm water. Before our meals came, the server brought us out a bowl of edamame, which we did not order, and apologized in advance for the wait. They just had a large carryout order called in. The advance gesture was rare, thoughtful, and more than kind. I ordered a rainbow roll and an Alaskan roll. While I wasn't wildly impressed with either, they were both good, especially for the price. Some of the fish wasn't as fresh as I'd expected, it was mushy and tasteless, the salmon in particular. The tuna, however was firm and fantastic. My expectations may have been a bit hyped, but I found myself with very little to say about the sushi. However, bonus points for having low sodium soy sauce right on the table. The highlight if our meal was my girlfriends order, the bento box with spicy chicken. For $10, it's a ton of food, plenty to take home. The spicy chicken was easily the best thing we tried. It had a nice mixture of spicy, but not too spicy, a touch of sweetness, and a bold rich flavor that I suspect was a mixture of hoisin sauce and sriracha? I'm not sure, but it was a perfectly balanced flavor mixed over sliced fresh chicken and sautéed onions, served with a side of rice. The bento box also came with a tasty dumpling and a few other interesting appetizer samplers, all pretty delicious, with a side of ginger salad, and a California roll. It was very good and a great deal for the price. The service was friendly and welcoming, but there were a few minor mishaps, including overlooking our request for no avocado in the box meal due to my girlfriend's allergy. They brought the meal out with avocado, we sent it back, no problem, it came back fast and they remade the California roll that had the avocado. No big deal, except when she finished eating she realized they put the new roll on the old roll leftovers, which meant avocado smeared on the tray and on the remade roll. A little higher sensitivity toward allergy requests would be appreciated. Last, we ordered the Japanese Fried Chicken appetizer based on a number of yelp reviews. It came out after our meal due to a mix up at the register, not a big deal to me. It was ok, bite sized sliced fried dark meat chicken in a light batter served with a side of sweet & sour sauce. It had a peculiar flavor that wasn't really good or bad. I wasn't impressed and likely wouldn't order it again. Rice Blvd is affordable, the atmosphere is clean and simple, the service is friendly, and the food was pretty good, though it didn't meet my expectations based on recommendations. I'll definitely be going back and giving it another shot, maybe it was just a rough night. Next time I might spend more time looking at the meals rather than the sushi, though. Or, at least ask for a recommendation from the chef. Regardless, affordable healthy food is always welcome in Toledo, where it's rarer than the fish atop those rolls I ate tonight. Absolutely the best sushi I've had in a number of cities I've visited. If you're from Toledo and you think Sakura or Kyoto Ka is good, then you haven't had Rice Blvd. yet. Rice Blvd. is better than both in taste and value. All sushi rolls and entrees are priced very reasonably and the owner and his staff are both incredibly friendly. Also, since they're right by a college campus, they understand students' financial plights, and graciously do not accept tips. The atmosphere is exactly what you would want out of a sushi place. It's always sparkly clean and organized. I've tried just about every sushi roll on the menu at this point, and in over 30 visits, I have never once left disappointed. Everything is always super fresh every day. I'm now on a first name basis with the owner, Jun (sp?), and some of his staff, and have noticed that they call other regulars by name too. It doesn't get more personal and comfortable than that. Jun told me he gets fresh fish on a daily basis. This is exactly what you want from a sushi joint. If sushi isn't fresh, it isn't good, but it's always fresh and amazing here at Rice Blvd. I make it a habit to stop at least twice a week. I've tried other sushi in town and none can stack up to Rice Blvd. My favorite is the Orchard Roll (California topped with eel and avocado). Their stone bowls are amazing as well. You can order nigiri if you ask, although it is not on the menu. If you like sushi, make it a point to go here. (FYI: Parking can be a little tricky, as you have to park behind the Gateway building and walk through the middle to the front. To avoid tickets from the UT Parking Nazis, make sure you park in green lined spaces only. They're pretty well marked.) read more

Went to Toledo for 1 month. Find this place really good. I preferred sashimi more than sushi before, but this place has great sushi and changed my mind. Here's my comments: Orchard: the first sushi I tried, love the avocado and eel on the top. Recommend! Rainbow: California topped with different fish, tastes good with soy sauce and wasabi. Recommend! Philadelphia tempura: have creamy cheese in it, and a special dip. Recommend for a try! But better to share with someone as the creamy taste may make you tired. Troy: Strongly Recommend!!! It is baked by really fire! You can see it, smell it and taste it! And there's special sauce on the top, so you can eat it without dipping wasabi. Caterpillar: more fresh tasting as there's cucumber in it. But not too impressed. Holy Toledo: forgot to take a picture. But good for a try. Also not too impressed. Dynamite: Recommend! Good for people who love spicy and tempura. Chirashi: not too impressed, the rice is sushi rice and tastes good but the fish seems not too fresh. Yakisoba: I've read good comments on it so I tried. But I think it's too light and sweet at my taste. Not recommend... Mochi: A cute tiny ice cream. Love the flavor of green tea! Anyway, it's a good sushi place with reasonable price. Was in the mood for sushi so decided to stop by and see what all the hype was about. So glad I did! The restaurant itself is a bit small. So be prepared that you might not find a seat when you come in. You walk right up to the register to order then take a seat. Menu is nice and clear. Makes it easy for ordering. The place was very clean, the gentleman there made sure everything was spotless, including the bathrooms! Is nice that you get to see the prep work for the sushi right behind the register too! Price: great! You get a decent amount for your money. Food: I personally enjoyed it. The miso was hot and fresh. The bibimbap was fresh and flavorful. Boulevard bowl was also good. Smaller than the bibimbap but tasty. Just enough spice on the chicken with fresh white rice. California rolls were tasty and can't beat the price. Even my three year old loved them! When I worked in the Gateway near Rice BLVD I had to ban myself from going every day. The chicken yakisoba is so good. It's filling, oily, just the right amount of spice and lives in my head rent free. Not worth the hype, Koreana has better Toledo sushi! I heard so many good reviews about this place so I reallyyyyy wanted to love it but overall the experience was on the 'decently good but still pretty average' side. Granted, I only tried their spicy chicken bowl and a few specialty sushi rolls, so this review is by no means comprehensive. Will have to go back and give their panko meats a try as well as the curry rice and new ramen menu (although I'm about as picky as it gets when it comes to ramen so I'm keeping my hopes low). Anyways, I felt the food was average because though there are a variety of rolls, they lack sauce/toppings and that final finesse. If you're a sushi fan on a budget you might enjoy it for the price value (VERY reasonable prices, ~$3-4 most standard rolls) but even the specialty rolls (~$10-12) didn't really stand out to me, and that's really where sushi places should be shining with their rolls. I ordered a tempura fried roll which seemed like it had been fried yesterday night and re-heated. There was no fresh crisp texture but rather a soggy soft/chewy texture...meh. Their 'crunch' rolls also have minimal crunch. Spicy tuna was not special either. I would come here on days where you want something simple and cheap, because this place is great for value, which explains its fitting location near an undergrad campus. However, if you want high-quality, send you into a trance, date-night (or treat yourself night) kind of sushi though this may not be what you are looking for. (I do suggest checking out Koreana though ... their specialty rolls are WAY better but does come with a heftier price tag... it is your date-night treat ;) Be on the lookout for an updated review after I try their curry rice and ramen! The food was great! My favorite is the California tempura! My boyfriend got vegetable yakisoba, he loved it. I got miso ramen, it was actually pretty good. It's a lot of food! The California tempura is grab, avocado, and cream cheese - it's fried, it's great! Really would recommend! It's a small place, a lot of college students. It was jammed back on a Saturday afternoon.
