I came to Yama japan to try out their sushi burrito, it was everything I wanted it to be. I definitely recommend them if you're a sushi lover! They aren't very big, so I got a roll on the side to make it a meal. If you're not a fan of sushi, they do have hibachi available to order as well. So many of the take-out or delivery options for sushi (let alone Japanese) are pretty mediocre in Toledo, so we were frankly impressed and excited about the consistent quality Yama has been providing us. Over the last month we've ordered dinner 3 times, and each time it was great. From the sushi to appetizers like the shrimp tempura, everything has always arrived home fresh-tasting, AND visually appealing, which goes a long way for me. I've ordered the Sashimi Dinner each visit, which consists of 18 pieces of sashimi as well as a side of soup or salad. For around $20, it's always felt like it's been worth every single penny. And as I mix and match appetizers while also taking bites of my wife's sushi, Yama has immediately become a "HELL YES!" option when it's suggested for dinner. Each time I've ordered online, it's always been ready at the promised time even as their parking lot has been full and there has been a small group of delivery drivers waiting inside for their packages to take off into the night. I'd recommend Yama to anyone in Toledo that's looking for a great Japanese take-out option. It's not fine dining, and from the approach inside of the restaurant it's definitely framed as fast-casual, and I think they've done it expertly. A hibachi/sushi spot that refused to make sushi... We stopped by here on the way home from a boba restaurant that's practically around the corner. They were obviously busy when we got here and I would dare say they were in over their heads in that moment - personally, along with the general appearance of the place, I thought that spoke to their popularity. Had we gone in and it looked dated, run down, and smelled bad, I wouldn't have thought so positively. This place didn't look like the usual generic, run of the mill sushi/hibachi places you tend to find in strip malls - it looked new, clean, and well put together, like they care about their appearance. It's a small restaurant with a handful of places to sit (all indoor, no outdoor seating). They have many, many options on their menu - hibachi, poke bowls, sushi, sushi burritos..... I tried ordering a shrimp tempura burrito but that seemed to worry the guy taking our order. He asked the manager/owner/coworker working beside him if they could make that and the man got very angry, gestured to a full tray of food beside him, and said no sushi. Now... when I go in to a restaurant, I like knowing what I'm going to order. I don't like holding up the line or wasting the worker's time... but I didn't have a Plan B, second choice in mind... I assumed a sushi place with a predominately sushi menu would... serve sushi. SO here I am, mini panicking, trying to think of what to order while the poor guy at the register is getting yelled at for suggesting they make a customer something that's on the menu... so I blurted out "Scallop bento box?" without even looking to see what was included in said bento box............ a California sushi roll. We got my bento box and a few other things, took them home, and ate them all like wild animals, standing over our island. It was that good. Like someone else said, the fried rice is a little different from the usual fried rice you come across, as are the dumplings, but it was ALL delicious. I would compare it to Nagoya, just a fraction of the price. It wound up being a hilarious experience - we caught them at an exceptionally busy moment. You're not gonna watch people making brilliant rolls or see them reinvent the wheel. But what you will get is consistently good food at a great price, quickly. They have some of the best tuna Tataki. I had a sushi burrito last time I was there that was good. I've never had the hibachi, but my friend had it and it looked stella. Since it has opened I have ordered sushi from here probably 20 times and I've never had a bad experience. That's pretty much unheard of in the era of covid dining. Came here while visiting in Toledo; I was wanting sushi & this was recommended I should've went inside to order, it would've guided my choices. So in part, I take some fault for the experience I had. This is a nice quick, to order japanese food place. We ordered the Dynamite & Hot Babe Roll, also had an order of edamame and the potstickers. Edamame, you can't go wrong here, well cooked & great amount for the price. I was surprised to see the potstickers were fried, but I had to have glanced over that when ordering. They were tasty, the sauce on the side was overly sesame. Now to the sushi; the Dynamite roll was even better than I imagined it would be as I don't care for cream cheese in my sushi. But very tasty. The hot babe roll, needs a new name. It was a lifeless mess. I've never had poke tuna - grounded up to minced meat - smeared on top of a sushi roll. I don't recommend any of the raw rolls after that. I'd trust them to do ok with cooked/fried rolls. Great service otherwise, quick and courteous! The items that I'd try on going back is the affordable "Hibachi", smelled amazing when I went in to pick up food. Will give a try the next time I'm in town and have a craving! Pretty good quick Japanese take out. It is a small location with some seating inside. I got the take out due to the coronavirius. I had the Fiery Dragon roll and the shrimp fried rice. I wasn't expecting the amount of shrimp in the rice. Normally you get a few pieces, but Yama puts a lot of shrimp in it. The dragon roll was phenomenal. My girlfriend got the vegetable tempura and the chicken bento box. She couldn't finish it all. She said they gave her a lot of chicken. The price wasn't bad either. $35 and we'll worth it. 3 stars because the sushi was fresh and decent and the restaurant itself is small but cute. But here are the cons for me: First, I didn't like was the very chilly greeting. It seemed like the owner, no smile, mumbles at us and has difficulty taking a simple order. I can't tell you how sick I am of offending businesses with my presence. Are these people allergic to money? They charge high prices for cafeteria style service and a wobbly, dirty table. (They were all dirty and it wasn't that busy yet) Most of all, I didn't like paying that much to have all of our food served in plastic. I know, I know, no one cares and it's too tree hugger for some but it bothered me that this place goes through SO much plastic and I saw no recycling bins. Our food was served in to go plastic containers. ALL of it. Including the soy sauce cups, which you can get yourself next to the soda machine. The vibe was, "Where's your hurry, here's your hat." Overall, it's an ok place and if you find yourself there in a pinch, you probably won't be disappointed with the food, but there are better choices. I can go a little bit up Secor and for only a few dollars more get a much better experience with better sushi (in my opinion), on plates, in a beautiful atmosphere at Kira Japanese steak house. I stopped in here yesterday and picked up $130 up to go food for six of us. I ordered a variety of items including the tuna salad, poke bowl, sushi rolls, seaweed salad, crab salad, salmon hibachi, spring rolls and more. Starting out with the service they were fast and friendly and I had my food very quickly. Especially since I ordered sushi rolls and cooked items. I feel as though the prices are reasonable. Everything I ordered was very good and we all tasted everything. I would say my favorite was the tuna tataki salad. I will definitely return here, the food was fresh, fast and hit the spot. The only recommendation I would have is when getting to-go items to place the cold items and hot items in separate bags and not everything together. I've only gotten take out once but from my first experience there was very little to complain about. Fast, healthy, fresh. The decor was tasteful especially for Toledo but the people dining in were eating out of to-go containers. It would be nice if they invested in some more eco-conscious plates and silverware. Also, I would love a build your own poke bowl or sushi burrito option. The burrito I got was great but I would have liked an extra rice option and some sauce options. With a few tweaks this place could def enter into my somewhat limited Toledo dining options. Can't wait to give it another try. read more

I talked my husband into spontaneously taking me here on a Sunday night. They seemed pretty busy with consistent carry-out orders. We were the only ones dining in. It was a quiet and casual environment. We ordered a bowl of miso, a Rainbow roll, a Hot Babe, and a Rock and Roll to split. The rainbow roll was your average rainbow roll and the Hot Babe was delicious and topped with wasabi tobiko. In all my sushi outings I have never came across wasabi tobiko. It was tasty with a hint of spice. Our favorite roll was the Rock and Roll. The spicy tuna was so soft, addicting, and packed with flavor. All of the fish was super fresh, tender, yet firm. The portion sizes were generous and the prices are very competitive. I believe our total was around $32 and the food came out in around 7-10 minutes. I was craving tuna and decided to give this place a shot. I'm so so glad that I did! I ordered the Tuna Avocado Roll & the hibachi chicken and fried rice. I've been craving tuna avocado rolls since and wish I lived closer to it. It's prolly a good thing I don't live nearby or I'd be broke haha. With this hot, miserable, summer heat, I've been unable to turn on my oven without flashbacks to carrying cold water pails to my chickens and having half the bucket filled with my own sweat by the time I made it to the coop. I ordered a seared tuna poké bowl and my comrade got a rainbow sushi burrito. In order to avoid social interaction, I stayed in the car while my comrade went in and ordered the goods. He said they were nice fellas. The poké bowl was good, but I felt something was off. After checking over the menu, I realized they made my bowl wrong. There was some imitation crab on it, which to my belief, wasn't supposed to be there. Not a big deal, I just don't like shellfishes or things with claws. Comrade: the sushi burrito was good, but more of a novelty item. Having the sushi cut into bite sized pieces, as in a roll, is much more convenient. If you agree, they do have some sushi rolls that look like they could knock your flops off. Overall, would eat again, it's much better than the infamous Kmart hot dogs I was force fed as a kid. I ordered the rainbow poke bowl and it was amazingly good. My issue was with the staff. When he brought out my bowl, his finger was on the rim of the bowl and was touching the food. I said, "uhhh your finger is touching it" I don't know if he didn't hear me or ignored me. But he did take his finger that had some sauce on it and wiped it off on his shirt. They have good accommodations for allergy's! The staff called before making the food to make sure it was okay to remove some of the sauces because of allergy's and put them on the side instead.
