Totally worth a detour! A fantastic atmosphere, lovely business, wonderful menu, tasty food, and loyal customers. So many folks visiting were long-term customers who knew the staff by name. I decided to get the Duck Ramen based on the Yelp reviews--it was so perfect. A HUGE duck leg, perfectly tender. I also got a side of Japanese potato salad, which I really enjoyed. One small critique: it was covered (crisscrossed to the extreme) with mayo which was overkill.

Finally came here and it did not disappoint! Came here on a chilly Saturday for lunch and it hit the spot. We sat right away! There a couple of tables or bar seating. They have draft beers, bottles, sake, seltzers, and n/a. Lots of options. There are rice bowls, apps, and ramens. We got the special ramen which was a duck ramen, shoyu/tonkatsu, and pork belly baos. Everything was amazing. Rich broth and melt in your mouth pork. The duck leg was spectacular. Crispy skin. Cannot wait to go back and try other ramens. The service was speedy and everyone was so nice:

I've finally gotten to try this most daughter after ramen lunch spot in Toledo. They are the same owners of the Sushi restaurant next door, so they do not offer reservations. You simply put your name on the board at the start of every morning to ensure your seat. We got here around 1 and were lucky enough to have a seat available. We ordered the post popular ramen and the most popular curry with rice. The ramen was delicious and the curry was flavorful. These guys really know how to run a restaurant

Our waitress Taya was wonderful very attentive and made sure we were happy the entire time. Only issue was we waited around 20 minutes to get our appetizer which is not a huge deal. Our food was wonderful we would definitely come back!

This place is hopping on a Saturday afternoon. Bar & kitchen seating along with tables, but it can fill up fast. Check the specials board above the bar - there's always something interesting there. Four taps of beer - one is dedicated to Sapporo Reserve. Sake, beer & wine are also available. I had the day's special, shoyu duck ramen. Delicious!

To be frank, I'm not that into ramen. With that being said, this place is 5 star! Anything Kengo touches is magic. The interior is small and basically identical to Kengo sushi next door. Kengo sushi is also five star! Anyways, try the ramen, the potato salad, or anything. You won't be disappointed.

In town for a conference, quick lunch and great decision with Kato! Service was prompt and helpful in menu choices. Small and intimate venue, the place was packed, always a good sign! The food was delicious, I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy miso ramen with chicken and egg. Came back the next day for lunch with a coworker! All around 5 out of 5. Thank you!

Ramen is my favorite food and this is some of the besttt ramen I've had. I love the various broth options and have tried the spicy miso and shoyu and really enjoyed both! Service is quick and efficient as the restaurant model is "slurp loud, eat fast". You sign up for a spot at the door and the lines tend to move quickly. The food is amazing, my only complaint is that the hours are so limited. I'm not ever hungry for ramen at 11am and wish they were open later into the day for after work/dinner!

Spicy miso with extra chicken and bacon ramen (make it spicy)

The food is always Amazing. I've traveled to different areas to try their ramen and nothing compares to kato ramen. 10/10 every time. I get the spicy miso typically and my husband has loved the bacon ramen. Highly recommend!

Man o man. I moved from Chicago to Toledo and thought my delicious ramen days were over. Then, Kato Ramen smacked some sense into me. It's always bustling because the dining room is small and their hours are light. Open from like 11-230p every day, they close at 430p on Saturdays. They have the noodle bar up by the chefs and seats around the restaurant. I go with the spicy - it's packed with flavor. You're not going to cry eating it, it's probably a 5-6/10 but you can add spice bombs, which I recommend. Can't wait to go back and try the other styles.

The food is delicious! The pork belly is so tender and the ramen was amazing! The staff are friendly and the service is quick! It is a smaller place. I will definitely come again!

10/10! I wish I could have this every week. I was nervous about trying the ground chicken.. but it ended up being so delicious! Service was quick & personal. Everyone was nice & friendly. I loved it. The inside was quaint and cute. Will definitely come back again.

Food is good and always comes out fast! Always getting the spicy miso with it extra spicy!! The noodles are cooked perfectly. Won't lie, I have not ventured out to any other bowl. Friends have gotten the shrimp tempura buns, potato salad, and cucumbers all look delectable with no complaints. My biggest thing is the size of this place, the check in process gives me anxiety. As of late it hasn't been as busy which has helped the check in process. Would be back.

Then the food hits, and you realize: oh, this is a destination. The space is tiny--tiny. Every time the front door swings open, a blast of outside air rushes in like it's trying to join the waitlist. Seating is scarce, but the whole system works: packed room, fast service, no panic. A strange harmony. Everything feels made with intention. Drinks were built one ingredient at a time, syrups clearly homemade. My black garlic ramen was absurdly good: deep, rich broth, perfect pork chashu that I'd happily eat by the pound, fried garlic that hit just right. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken? Unreal. A whole meal disguised as an appetizer. My wife doesn't like dark meat--fantastic news for me. I inhaled the entire plate like it was my birthright. Service was warm, calm, human--no chaos, no weirdness, just a kitchen pushing out nonstop greatness. We'll be back, no question. For my taste buds, this is some of the best ramen in Northwest Ohio. So, so good.

After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.

The servers were very courteous and always smiling, looked nice in their all black shirt, pants and apron. Modern interior ... elements of wood, vinyl red upholstery, and lots of japanese lanterns hanging by the sushi bar and kitchen area. Lots of elbow room and proportional height of the dining table. And in each table, they would place on top of each sushi plate a thick paper napkin, and chopstick with their logo printed on the front. Very hot water is served in a ceramic sake cup. For a group of three, we ordered the highly recommended Tonkotso Ramen $18, Stir fry noodles $16, and Chicken Katsu Curry Bowl $17. There was a strange smell of the bowl used to served the stir fry noodles and it tasted bland .. but for Ramen noodles, I very much enjoyed enjoyed eating the thin noodles garnished with chashiu, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, nori and corn - the only downside is the broth was easily absorb by the noodles so you might need to order extra broth for additional $5. The breaded chicken breast is good in proportion enough to feed three and the curry sauce was ok ... maybe a few pieces of carrot would have been great. I do commend how they prepared the egg and created a very nice plating of it on top of the rice. At first, we hesitated to dine in because of the reviews like slow service but actually it seems that the food and drinks were served more or less 10-15 minutes. Just about right when you want your food to be prepared by them the right way. Free parking. Dining area is warm so don't bother wearing a thick jacket inside.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
