Bumped from two stars to three for these reasons:…read more 1) The company took responsibility for a mistake that triggered a $200 fine from IRS, and refunded me for it. Thanks. 2) I was able to reach my accountant on the phone easily during the peak season, and he gave me a quick answer in a few hours - during the weekend. Still, my experience was less than satisfactory. (1) The return that the team prepared had two mistakes, which I spotted and saved myself 6,000$. This is the exact opposite of H&R Block Second Look - I was the second look! (2) There was an additional mistake that triggered a review by IRS, which costed me $200 (refunded by Dimov, as mentioned). You don't want to get reviewed by IRS. (3) Even if I started uploading my documents early, big stuff in February and March 3 (with some small updates for few hundred dollars coming later), the return was ready only on April 6, and the signature docs only on April 8. Add the weekend, and we got REALLY close to the deadline. They even suggested filing for an extension... due to their own delay. (4) My accountant was incorrect about the safe harbor and about AMT cost basis. It took multiple messages to clarify the issues, and one question was eventually escalated to his manager, who initially missed the point and gave me an unrelated answer. After multiple messages, where I quoted the tax law, we were at last in agreement. (5) The free Q4 2025 tax estimate took a month (from Nov 7 to Dec 4) after being bounced from one person to another. I ended up doing it myself and it was just double-checked by their team. (6) The team used this Q4 estimate in my return, instead of the actual values from the previous year, requiring me to scan the return line by line to find incorrect data. (7) Through the process, I received messages from 13 different people. Only one of them appears on LinkedIn or any Google search. Draw your own conclusion about this. (8) They offered me a tax-estimate package where they would help me estimate my quarterly payments. This was priced as 3 hours at 360$. Does it take 3 hours to scrape a few bank statements for data (AI is really good and fast) or 3 hours to run their software on these numbers? Come on, this is 2026. Really, not what I was expecting.

This will be our 3rd year with Ron and his firm handling our joint tax filings…read more Our finance/tax situation is not super complicated but it's complex enough that we can't easily use software or rely on some storefront type walk-in service. We made the switch to a real professional CPA years ago and will never go back. We switched to Ron after our prior CPA shifted our work to his junior minions who dropped the ball in a few key areas. Ron has been fantastic. My wife has mainly owned the properties we've lived in and she's always had non-trivial tax questions related to real estate. On my end I own part of a MA S-corp and the 50% shareholder status means I get a complex IRS K1 form each year. The variable K1 "income" also means I need to be super careful about staying on top of estimated quarterly tax pre-payments for the upcoming year. Ron is the person who makes all this a sane and sensible process. I also travel a lot for work and prefer to work with professionals who can handle communication at a distance -- never an issue swapping signed PDFs with Ron or communicating via email when I'm not in BOS.

Ron is an A+++ accountant. This was the first year we used Ron and I am so happy that we did! We…read moregot back so much more money then we have in the past. Last weekend was out first time going to Bill or any other accountant to do our taxes in a decade…read moreor more, as we've been using Turbo Tax for years. However, 2012 was a crazy year for us as we re-located from NJ back home to MA, changed jobs, rolled over a 401K and had multiple stock sales. So like every recent year, we bought TT again this year and were basically satisfied with the answers, although we owed $4100 to the IRS and $681 to MA we were getting $3990 back from NJ. That seemed reasonable given the income from last year. Still we wanted to double check our work on TT and we also wanted to establish a relationship with an accountant who could also provide advice going forward as to how to best position ourselves for next years taxes. My wife and I are almost 50 so we also were also looking for someone to validate the positions we had taken financially to prepare for retirement. We found Bill on Yelp and even though we live in Boston where there were other five star rated accountants, we liked the fact that he was praised for both his tax services and his financial advice. Also, he was noted as having a friendly and easy going personality (Which some of the other five star accountants defiantly did not have according to their reviews). We didn't want to start off a potential long term relationship with any one who was a dick, no matter how brilliant. Bill has a nice location in an office park in Quincy off Willard Street. We arrived on time and so did he. We liked Bill immediately as he was engaging and friendly and not stuffy at all. He even had Red Sox World Series memorabilia on his walls which immediately signaled to me that he was A NORMAL PERSON. Anyways, Bill found that we had made a mistake on TT by erroneously listing our stock sales. As far as TT was concerned, no red flags popped up because the error was inputted incorrectly by us. TT didn't know and we didn't know either, but Bill knew. The error would have been costly. Instead of the figures above, it turned out that we actually only owed the IRS $798! Our NJ refund was increased by over $200 and our debt to MA turned into a refund of almost $200. All tolled, Bill saved us almost $4500. After his fee of $275, we still saved well over $4000. We obviously enjoyed our first meeting and will schedule another more comprehensive meeting to evaluate our goals and current positions after the tax season ends and Bill is less busy. Bottom line here is that Turbo Tax is a great product, but nothing beats discussing your tax obligations with a human being. We would HIGHLY recommend Bill Ryan to anyone looking for an exceptionally competent accountant/financial planner in the Metro South or even in the Boston metropolitan area. THANKS BILL!
