I had been trying to get help for a tax snafu involving my parents, Spain, the IRS, a grifter and a misplaced shed of documents. The details are weird but unimportant. I had called 11 other tax services and not one of them even bothered to call me back. Padgett returned my call immediately and took the time to explain everything to me before we even talked about a contract. Both Bunny and John were responsive, patient and helpful and assured me that this was NBD, they had it under control. I appreciate the time and effort they took to establish trust. When I finally got through to other tax preparers, they wanted 5x the $ and didn't seem to actually understand the situation. I'm sticking to Padgett. read more

The agent seems professional, but once I got the quote, the front desk insisted me giving out my SSN OH THE PHONE, which is not a secured. I offered to give it via email but they just told me to find someone else and hung up the phone. This is rude and unprofessional, potentially racially driven given other similar experience are reported from minority groups. Stay away from this firm. read more

I appreciate that they called me more than once, since I missed their call while at work. When we finally connected over the phone, I introduced myself and gave a brief summary of my tax situation. The person that answered quickly said "this will cost you about 1k, which is probably more than you can afford". I was shocked by that statement. I didn't tell you my yearly income or any details of my situation. What was it about me that gave you this impression? My voice? Because I'm black? Before you say "don't make this about race", we spoken literally for 90 seconds and he already determined this is above my pay grade. I'm a system engineer. I have done this for years and can afford the service, but I don't accept disrespect or condescending attitude in any business I ever do. I'm happy I haven't signed up with this provider. The other reviews had better luck, but I'm all set. read more

I just had a terrible experience with this firm. I called the front desk for my request and I was very clear about it. They referred me to someone who for some reason was very rude and didn't seem to like my questions (which were very easy reasonable question). He then proceeded to tell me that we are not vibing and if we work together I'll get angry and he'll get frustrated. He could have apologized in a much more professional way, I am not forcing him to take my case, but there is no need to talk this way or tell me this! To add on the reply I received. I was not looking for free advice at all. I asked how can I be billed for this advice I do not expect free service nor would I waste anyone's time. I wrote what was told to me at the end of the conversation word for word. If I wasn't the right fit for you firm, there are much nicer ways to state that! read more

I have used Padgett in Aurora Illinois for many years, dealing with Bob Kovanic specifically. He is always attentive, answering emails and calls in an efficient manner. Bob has given me excellent advice over the years with my taxes and even future tax planning, so that I am always well prepared for the next year. Bob has consistently been available throughout the year when a tax question has arisen, so that I am always compliant with tax code and don't get burned come April. I have referred other to him, who have all been very happy too. You couldn't be with a better company. read more

I needed someone to do my taxes because they had become complex enough and I did not think I had the time. They were efficient knowledgeable and did everything remotely. It was money well spent. read more

I messaged John B (the owner) at 5:45 PM Monday night, I received a call back from him within a minute of my message. He listened to my situation and was honest with me about his process and pricing. No tricks, no gimmicks. Just from receiving the quote (which extremely reasonable especially in Boston) I could tell that he and his business are truthful and reliable. I'll post an update once tax season is over (which can't be soon enough!!). read more

Pretty good overall! Kept trying to communicate by phone when I preferred/tried by email- that's my only complaint. Otherwise, my appointment was fast and got the taxes filed so that's what matters ! read more

John Barucci at Padgett is fantastic. He is professional, personable, very thorough but efficient as well. I've recommended him to all my coworkers, he beats the prices of other offices that treat you as though you're a chore, he treats you as a valued customer. I will continue to use him for years to come. Definitely worth a short trip to Westwood! read more

Happy Tax Day, Everyone! For 2014-2015, I figured I'd share my experience with John again, so my fellow "Yelpers" can start planning for next tax season... I met with John 02/15/14 and I was certainly impressed that I was out of there in less than an hour--it could have taken less than a half hour if needed! He found deductions I was not aware of, which maximized my return, and he also made my life easier by answering all of my questions related to switching jobs mid-year and filing in multiple states, which I found to be a hassle in the past. John's professionalism and dedication to understanding you and your personal/business tax needs is second to none! If you are reading this review, and are located in Boston or the Neponset Valley area, I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment if not for this year, next year (2014 filing year). In addition to personal taxes, John also offered me free business advice and provided me with a brief overview on the services he offers outside of tax season (financial reporting, payroll services, and how to streamline). Personable, easy, and rewarding are the three adjectives that come to mind after working with John and Padgett Business Services. read more

[tl;dr: I'd give John 6 stars if I could. Well worth the drive to Westwood.] John is efficient, friendly, honest, and great at doing your taxes. He's fast -- my taxes were done 33 minutes after I walked in the door. He has weekend hours, and while Westwood seems SO FAR AWAY, it really only took 1/2 hr to get there from Cambridge. This is my second year now working with John (or rather, sitting there while he makes his work looks easy) and I am impressed. John has never failed to make me feel like a valued customer and my (3 so far) tax appointments with him have always been pleasant. He's friendly, funny, and he remembered some obscure details about an amendment we had filed last year -- seriously -- without looking it up! He's patient when you don't have all the right forms or if you don't understand random tax mumbo jumbo (this is why I pay to have them done). He has a way of making you feel like he enjoys doing your taxes. WEIRD. As far as actually DOING your taxes, from what I can tell, John has a ton of experience and is always looking to maximize your deductions (all within legal bounds, of course -- no shady business here). He asks pointed questions about things you may have spent money on that can be claimed for tax purposes. And, he's honest. One of my forms hasn't come in the mail yet, and John asked that I not pay him until his work is actually done. (I would have had no issue paying him ahead of time, either. I have no doubt the taxes would have been filed just the same. But it's a nice way to make the customer feel like their best interest is what's important.) So seriously a no-brainer. If you're looking for tax prep, look no further. read more

It was a pleasure doing my taxes with John. He was fair and he took the time to get me the best refund back possible. Lets just say I will not be going back to H&R block again anytime soon! Thanks John read more

I came to John through exemplary reviews and feedback from numerous of my coworkers all of which use John for their tax needs. Being in the real estate business, the amount of deductions that were possible were daunting to me so I figured having some help to do my taxes were in order. From the start Bunny his assistant was extremely helpful and polite. John was very thorough and detailed and asked me a lot of questions that would affect the amount of deductions I'd be eligible for and gave me a lot of great advice that I will most definitely use in the future to help reduce my tax payments. I'd highly recommend John at Padgett for tax services as I will defiantly use him in future years to come! read more

John Barucci @ Padgett was wonderful. He was professional, quick and thorough. John completed my personal return. I had a pretty simple tax return however it ended up being around $125 cheaper than what H&R Block charged me for a similar return last year. Saturday hours are also available, huge plus. Worth the short drive to Westwood. Thanks John. Will definitely return next year. read more

John was extremely professional and informative, I felt he really looked out for my best interest. He made recommendations to help me increase my deductions by making investments in my retirement accounts which I was unaware of. Additionally, he was able to work with my schedule and get me in on the weekend. Even after my appointment he was super responsive to my emails & questions. I would definitely recommend John and have to my close friends & family. read more

I am a small business owner that found myself in need of a competant accounting service about 5 years ago. My company needs were too large for the accountant that I had been using. I was frustrated with the IRS notices that my accountant was telling me not to worry about. I knew enough to know that I needed someone to keep me on track and compliant. I grew tired of leaving messages that would get returned 1-2 weeks later. I found Padgett Business Services around that time when I started calling to interview new accountants. I found their package pricing to be a great value. The service and attention I receive are probably worth a lot more than I am paying. The business advice I receive has saved me much more than anything that I pay them. I use them for my personal tax returns. I found that the pricing is fair, comparable to large chain pricing but I get the added value of having an accountant do it versus someone that took an 8 week course inputing information into the computer. I couldn't be happier with the service that they provide. They help keep my business on track so that I can focus on running it. read more

I used John for my 2016 taxes. I had a more complicated situation than your average taxpayer but John was extremely helpful and took the time to do some research and help me file my taxes appropriately. One thing other people didn't comment on is that he does tax returns remotely as well, if you are in Boston and too far from Westwood. I highly recommend him for your future tax returns. read more

John Barucci (one of the principals) is awesome! Coming in for an Angie's List Big Deal, he fixed last year's return and got me quite a bit of money back. He really knows his stuff and he was quick and tells good stories. Excellent experience all around! read more

Fast, very smart and experienced. I have somewhat complicated 9though modest) investments - a rental apartment in my 2-family, foreign income, LLBs with incomprehensible 1098s, pensions from here and from Europe. But his fee is reasonable, and when I forget details, I get friendly e-mail/phone reminders to send in the needed data. Amiable and very professional. read more
