Huge thanks to my team for finding a vegetarian friendly menu in Hamburg! If you know German food,…read morethere is a lot of meat involved. Kleinhuis has a great selection of German favorites including a cauliflower steak for our vegetarian friends. Honestly, so hard to pick when so many things look good. I decided on the venison meatballs since they were circled in red. So glad I did. They were so moist and delicious. The meatballs are placed over cheesy potatoes with pickles and fruit. The combination is on point! Our waiter was funny and friendly. The only downside was service was slower. I don't know if it's because I'm an American and I don't know how to enjoy my meals or service was truly slow. Not a deal breaker since it allowed our table to talk and connect more.

There are quite a few other German specialties on the menu as well as regional dishes and others. The massive schnitzel is served on a plate of it's own, topped with a fried egg, but also comes complete with a delicious side salad and an excellent serving of bratkartoffeln with specks of onion and bacon. The meal is quite sizable for one person and my wife and I have shared it a few times, while ordering a curry rostbratwurst between us as well. The space here is quite large, a comfortable rustic setting, and ideal for groups. We've also never felt it necessary to make reservations in advance which is nice when you are looking for last-minute good food options.

The interior is quite cool, with cool glass balls hanging from the ceiling. I had the koenig platter which consists of fried potatoes, chicken, lamb, beef and a side salad. It isn't called the kings plate for nothing. I absolutely loved the chicken; very soft and well marinated. Absolutely tasty! The lamb and the beef disappointed. Pretty dry; maybe they should add some gravy to them. The salad was tasty too. An interesting thing I noted from a friend who got the veggie burger is that the german veggie burger doesn't have a pattie! This really shocked me but I was told this is pretty common in Germany. Still I find it really hard to accept a burger without a pattie.

Except for one of the five courses, all were delicious (and the other was certainly not a disaster ;) just a little pedestrian, easily doable at home). However, I thoroughly recommend it as lunchtime business venue or evening romantic spot. Situated on the busy Bei den Muhren, overlooking the water, we were able to watch the usual Hamburg weather (bright sunshine then aggressive winds and then torrential rain) rush past in the space of a relaxing 1.5 hours The restaurant itself is large and spacious with an open and modern design. Window tables such as we had I think will be much more pleasant than the inner tables. The 3 course daily lunch menu was excellent and very decent value for this quality of food: A lovely and delicate / frothy asparagus soup, tuna steak on a tomato risotto and a delicate fruit tart with ice-cream. Only minor quibble would be the speed of service - fine for a leisurely evening meal, but perhaps a little slow for a lunchtime off the set menu. But overall a really good discovery. I will be back.

We wouldn't typically repeat a…read morerestaurant during a short trip in a new city but our first experience for dessert late one night was so encouraging we came back for dinner the next night. It was my son's 16th birthday and we were trying to find a place that served dessert of some kind so we could celebrate appropriately...Veermaster was the place...open late and although crowded inside and out, we were given a table right away for the 2 of us. Our server was nice enough to accommodate my request to put a candle of some kind in the Baked French Roll Crumble dessert I ordered...there was a bit of comedy when he couldn't get it lit at the table and he had to take it back to the kitchen for help. And it was not just a candle but a full on sparkler...so quite the visual treat. I also had a neat shot of Jägermesiter. I'd never had it before and wanted something local to the region. We're vegetarian and the next night, our last night in Germany, we wanted another authentic German meal of some kind and saw they had "Anton's Cheese Spaetzle" on the menu. Okay! We'd already had our fill of vegan schnitzel and bratwurst elsewhere...let's give Spaetzle a try! We both ordered it...We easily could have shared one as it was quite a generous portion that neither of us could finish. It was pretty good...basically a German-style mac and cheese that came with a very fresh and impressive-looking side salad. We also ordered "3 Kinds of Bruschetta" - This is where we should have done a little more translation research as, again we're vegetarian, and one of them was herring. Okay, lesson learned for next time. The tomato and olive bruschettas were good though. We felt really well taken care of here. We had no problem getting seated on two very crowded nights in a row. It's an upscale comfortable place to eat in with plenty of seating at outside tables right on the Reeperbahn if you want that atmosphere. Thanks, Veermaster for giving us a great experience, and for the extra "sparkly" attention you gave to my son's birthday dessert.

We decided to test this place out on the recommendation of friends who live in the area and often eat here. We had somewhat of a haul to get out here from the center of Hamburg but it was worth it. Unfortunately the Bio-store right next door was closed already when we arrived. We had hoped to check that out too but all the better to come back again. Now on to the restaurant. We found the food to be superb and to be honest, you come here to eat "clean". It's such a pleasure eating tasty food which at the same time doesn't contain any chemicals you wouldn't want to be ingesting. We also found the restaurant itself to be very nice and yes, it does get a bit loud when full (as it was on a Friday evening we were there for dinner). Yet, it wasn't unbearably loud as some have noted. We were able to have a conversation no problem yet at the same time, didn't hear our neighboring table. We also sat fairly close to the open kitchen and enjoyed being able to see what was going on. Finally, everything was super clean and the toilets themselves are a treat. An interior designer went out of their way at this place and you can tell. If the owners did all the design themselves, all the better...hats off. OK, why then only 4 stars. At most other places, I would dock two stars for the following "problems" but the food and everything else here was so good that I will only remove one star: 1. Their website doesn't have the full menu on it. This is a nitpick but we like to see what's available before coming to a restaurant. They only have the lunch menu on here now and that's it. We talked to one of the owners who was also serving our table and she said this was coming. They simply haven't had time to focus on it. I find this quite important and would recommend making it a priority. People drive out here to eat as it's on the outskirts of Hamburg. Take the time, make the effort to let your customers know what to expect. 2. Along with not having the menu online, they only change it sporadically. It is not extensive and hence should in my opinion change more often. We'd actually come more frequently if we knew there was a new menu to expect each time. Knowing now that they change it two or three times a year plus not knowing when (since it's not on the website) will make us think twice how soon we'll be back. 3. We had multiple waiters, including one of the owners at our table throughout the night. Each individual was professional and polite yet I would of preferred one person. At this price point, I prefer to have one specific person to deal with throughout the night. I can understand when multiple things come out at the same time that you have a "runner" helping out but assign one waiter per table and have them serve it the whole night. Just more professional and allows you to "bond" a bit with the staff. At the same time, we liked knowing one of the owners was addressable with our concerns. All the complaints about speed are unfounded in my opinion. We had multiple courses plus drinks and everything came out quite quickly and completely to our satisfaction although every table was booked. Those who have complained must have been here early days when staff wasn't yet in tune or something was off. I wouldn't consider a problem now whatsoever. That's it. We still had a great time. My girlfriend had ordered th scampi and unfortunately one of the scampi wasn't properly prepped before cooking. The owner immediately offered to replace it or to give us a coffee on the house. We decided on the coffee and truly appreciated such a quick, non-debated response. This is how service should work at more establishments in Germany. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for really good food, which you can "trust", a nice atmosphere and great service.

The octopus was good, but the veal wasn't. Tuna tattoo Oriental: they were out of this, so they ended up bringing (without notice) the tatar from Husum beef fillet classically dressed, with baked capers. This was very bad. We didn't eat it because the meat didn't taste like it was high enough quality to eat raw. Pear Radish Carpaccio with Goat Cheese with lemon balm vinaigrette and goat cream cheese: this was pretty boring and the goat cheese pieces were too large. Pancetta Fig Pizzette: a Pancetta in beech wood from the Berkelmaschine fresh fig, almond slivers. This was actually delicious. A Pimentos de Padron: these were pretty boring, but we ate them anyways because we were waiting so long for our food that we became very hungry. Red Lentils with Mango and Harrissa: same situation as the pimentos de padron. Loup de Mer D (about 450g - 550g) in the whole with lime oil and rosemary potatoes: the fish was very boring. I wouldn't recommend this. Chest of the French "Label Rouge" black-feathered chicken with grilled pumpkin, wild mushrooms, vermouth sauce, herb gnocchi: this was very good. The sauce was a little heavy, but it was overall pretty good. The side salad it came with wasn't so good. It was pretty boring. The food was mediocre and took way too long, although the view is pretty.
