Gone is the era of adjustments and personalized form but at this state we have all been working out enough to know what the hey "tuck your tailbone" means. Kaisa the owner makes it a welcoming, motivating and fun time to come and grind it out every time. HIIT group classes with multiple stations consisting of 4-5 movements/reps that you try to do as many times as possible. There may be some more arm or leg work than the other on some days, but it's always a go-hard full body workout. Warmup typically includes some running outside down the front of the other studios in the complex, but there are stationary bikes for anyone who doesn't want to run. I love that they make time for abs, a cool down and stretching at the end. My main classes are: Tune Up - a different HIIT workout every time, multiple tools and equipment Supercharge - a combination of HIIT and kickboxing The Racetrack - 9-10 different stations ("miles") of HIIT They have boxing gloves for rental, and of course bring your own if you have, since you'll need them for Supercharge and Burn Out (mainly kickboxing). My only qualm is boxing on the movable bags; they tend to inch away from you after each punch, so you have to either punch from the opposite side or drag the bag back. They are always changing their workout formats so it's worth checking the schedule and seeing what's happening; I think Kaisa is adding a yoga class on Sundays. The Box is located at the Shoppes at Midtown near Angelina's and SugarCane. Atmosphere: This studio is brand new and outfitted with lockers, changing rooms, immaculate bathrooms and a cool indoor boxing ring. There is also a juice bar, The Juice Box, that sells drinks and smoothies for a post workout treat. The actual boxing studio is a separate dark room with black lights, high ceilings, mirrored walls, and 3 rows of punching bags. Everyone gets their own bag and each bag has a sensor that tracks how many punches you get in and your power. You can see you stats at the end of class to gauge performance. Workout: I've tried class with 3 of the instructors (Angie, Mike, Alvin) and they've all been awesome. Music is blasting, and the instructors explain the punches/combos and walk around offering help where needed. Class is 45 minutes divided in into a couple segments: warmup, shadow boxing, actual boxing on the bag, 5 minute abs and a cool down. There is a clock on the wall that times the different sections, and the class FLIES by! The Box offers classes almost every hour on the hour so it's pretty convenient to find a time to come in. Other: Parking can be difficult. Give yourself 10 minutes to find a spot. Wraps are $6 for purchase and can be reused. Gloves are $3 for rental per class.

Give yourself some extra time so you don't miss a single minute of this killer workout. I brought my own wraps and gloves, and would recommend that everyone hits up the "going out of business" sale at Sports Authority to do the same. It's the most economical option if you plan on doing a lot of boxing over time....but I digress. Behind a very clean entrance area and small boxing ring are a wall of lockers. There's a few very clean and modern bathrooms with showers also available, and in general the entire place was immaculate. The class takes place in dark room with rows of bags tied to the ground. There's a few things I love about this setup: 1) you can hardly see yourself which means that nobody else can really see you...aka, no fear of being judged and 2) each bag is equipped with a sensor to keep track of your performance based on the number of punches you land. Being a VERY competitive person, this fueled my fire and motivated me to work even harder in class. I also really liked our teacher, Gab. She made the class super hard but wasn't intimidating or too tough on us. It was just the right amount of encouragement and technical support, and I really enjoyed her class. Overall, this studio, the amenities and teachers give this place an A+. Can't wait to go back!

I've become the strongest and leanest that I've ever been with what feels like minimal effort. It's "hard" at first but after two classes it becomes very "easy" on the body and helps build your mental strength which dominoes into other areas of life. I love that each set is slow paced but the sets themselves move very fast, a great cadence for people who get bored easily. I've worked out with Sean Perry (the owner), Christopher Push, and Dorian Nicholson. Sean is very attentive and kind and is great for total body and abs. Christopher will absolutely push you to your limits in the best way, you will leave his workouts feeling accomplished and brand new. Dorian is great for beginners and very informative and energetic! I also love the price point for this location. It's about $100 a month for 5 classes, which I attended weekly. So far, the most affordable in the area. I'd walk or jog there to and from Brickell, which is about a 3 miles or so and would get my 10k steps in for the day via the travel. There is also free parking in the back if you decide to drive. I would definitely recommend this place because of the cool staff and the cool small businesses they support inside (seamoss, fresh juices, jewelry, art etc). Overall 10/10

I was in town for a week for reformer Pilates training, and my friends have been raving about babe hot Pilates, and specifically about how amazing Alejandro is. We decided to take his "Cute Booty" class and my booty was definitely feeling it after this! Alejandro was extremely personable. He asked for song requests from the entire room, he made it a point to walk around and chat with clients before class started, and then he took us through an insane lower body workout. I was SWEATING! The playlist was fire, the workout was intense, and the vibes were 10 out of 10. I booked my class through ClassPass and it was 8 credits. I also needed to rent a mat because I didn't feel like traveling down to Miami with it, and the mat rental was $8. I will gladly come back here the next time I'm in Miami!

ISI Elite is the truth when it comes to working out. Trust me when I say that it is one of the…read moretoughest and friendliest places to exercise. They have franchise locations in other states and began opening Florida locations this year, with Miami being in the works since February 2022. They offered free outdoor workouts from then until the end of September for people who signed up for an early bird membership, so my spring and summer fitness were shaped by them. They have a covered concrete courtyard right outside of their now opened studio, where they set up workout stations with dumbbells, resistance bands, kettlebells, medicine balls, even assault bikes. They had workouts in Margaret Pace Park nearby on some days as well. They offered so many workouts, in the evenings on weekdays and in the morning on weekends, that there was no way you could say you can't make it. The same flexibility applies to their studio schedule. I've been going to their 6:15 am weekday workouts, which are perfect for my work schedule, and their weekend workouts at 9 am and 10:15 am. They even have a 5 am workout for the crazies and evening workouts running to 7:30 pm. So what makes this gym different from the countless other ones, you ask? I can give you three reasons. 1. The workouts are intense. I won't sugarcoat it. You will do a certain number of burpees every time you're there. Some may even be during the warmup. It's not the only thing you'll do because you'll do a lot of things. You'll lift, push, pull, thrust, jump/step, and do it again. What I think creates the intensity is that after the warmup, the trainer shows you all of the movements in each station, but they'll tell you to do a round of body weight movements in between explanations of each station. You may watch the trainer demonstrate a side step over a riser, then tell you to do some skaters right afterwards. So you're warmed up, then stay very warm as you're being told what to do in each station. Then you get to do the workout, then a finisher. A finisher?! Yes, 2-3 minutes of core work, squat jumps and holds or other body cardio. I promise all of this work has its benefits. I know I started lifting heavier weights with them because there straight up weren't enough lighter weights available. But that and the repetition of the rounds helped me get stronger and support my losing weight, despite the degenerate eating and drinking I do as a Yelper. 2. The trainers are organized, knowledgeable, attentive and motivating. I've worked out with Coaches Wanderson and Kevin at other gyms and have seen how meticulous they are with regards to technique and attention to clients to make sure they have the correct form and aren't risking injury. Coaches Shay and Phil are also energetic, fun and really helpful. I forget where I am and crack up when I see Shay twerking. 3. The gym has been working really hard to create a sense of community amongst its members. Every workout includes reminders to high five your station mates when you've finished the round or workout, and they've organized several social events to get members and trainers to bond outside of the gym. (Phil's birthday at The Sylvester was one for the books!) The staff send personal texts for promotions and events encouraging people to continue coming and be involved. I would totally have an unlimited membership here if I lived in the Edgewater/Wynwood area! I'll just have to deal with getting a package to use here and there. They offer a 7 day free trial that you don't have to use in one week! Try them out!
