I have used this facility once before to shred confidential documents. The attendant was friendly…read moreand helpful. He even helped me bring the boxes from the truck into the facility, which I really appreciated. Today (a Saturday), the website said they were open from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon. We arrived at about 10:30 a.m. there was an open sign on the door and the interior lights were on. However, the door was locked and no one was inside. There were two other customers waiting. One said they had been there an hour earlier, and the office was closed then too. If they needed to close suddenly, they could have at least put a sign on the door. Luckily, we ended up finding another shredding facility (Shred RI) very nearby that was open. I'll probably go to Shred RI from now on to avoid this type of inconvenience.

Providing for resale "manufacturers' safe, non-toxic by-products, overruns, seconds and fall-offs…read morefrom manufacturing processes," this place sells cool junk by the pound. Unfortunately, this atypical shopping center is NOT open to the public. Only card-carrying educators and community organizations represent their customer base and must sign in with proof of membership, before entry is permitted. However, if you know an educator with a paid membership, as a guest, you too can experience (but not purchase, unless it is for "classroom use", wink-wink) a barrage of beads and foothills of foam. Watch the lot for RISD vans. Both the students (from RISD) and the recycle center are small, but quite serious about what they do.

A dumpy place…read more Years ago this place would have been called a dump, now it's a recycling facility. Doesn't matter what they call it, it's still pretty dumpy. Dirty, stinky with piles of stuff everywhere, you will definitely need a shower after visiting this place. But then that's not necessarily a bad thing. Warwick likes to recycle and does a pretty damn good job of it. Over 10,000 tons of stuff like cans, bottles cardboard, electronics. plastic and even major appliances are collected and recycled. The town even makes most of the recycling painless and easy for it's people. Warwick has curb pickup for a lot of the crap but for certain items like yard waste or huge kitchen appliances it is sometimes easier just to bring the stuff to the recycling center yourself. Sure a it's dirty and stinky place but pretty cool in it's own way. Lots of stuff to look at and I always have fun there. Even though Warwick has a very commendable and aggressive recycling program it goes beyond just that. It lets residents come and take nice stinky compost for free. Every year we go and get several truck loads for our garden. Even though we have our own compost bin we just never seem to have enough of the stuff. Now we can get all we want. Recycling is a stinky and sometimes nasty job but so very, very necessary. Warwick makes the job easy with curbside pickup and the recycling center. Plus you can even get all the stinky compost you want. The world is a better because of dirty and stinky places like this.

Hot damn, it's a landfill! Got trash? Bring it here. Got recyclables? There's a special place…read morefor that too. Yard debris? Electronics waste? Wood? Metal? Concrete? Oh boy, you have hit the freakin' jackpot, baby! If you're wicked lucky and your stars are all in alignment, a household hazardous waste event is going on where you can rid your garage of all those nasty chemicals you've been stockpiling for years before your property is declared a Superfund site. By jiminy, this landfill also boasts what is probably the nicest vantage point of any other landfill in the country, with a picturesque view of the Sakonnet River and Narragansett Bay to the west. Birdwatchers rejoice with an abundance of Larus canus and Cathartes aura to photograph. Why anyone in their right mind would come to a landfill to enjoy the ocean view and fauna is beyond me, but if that's seriously your thing, then you have just found your own personal little nirvana here in the south end of Tiveryon. Hey, I don't judge...well maybe. But then again, who the hell goes on Yelp and writes reviews of the local dump? Probably the same kind of person who would read such a thing. ;)
