This is a scrap metal recycling business that my employer uses regularly. I have been on two major scrap runs there so far, and it is a well-organized operation.
Employees have been very helpful, especially my first time, when I didn't know their protocol. They have also helped me unload some heavy barrels of scrap copper and brass off the truck.
Be aware they have eagle eyes and will carefully inspect containers to find metals that don't belong. For example, on my scrap run today, an employee found some pieces in the brass barrel which appeared to be chrome-plated brass, but were actually steel underneath the chrome (they either accidentally ended up in the wrong barrel, or one of the guys I work with just assumed they were brass). An Innercity employee actually brought some pieces over to a bench grinder to check what type of metal was underneath the chrome. Like I said, they run a tight ship there, but they are not jerks about it.
The guys work quickly, and if you have a small amount of scrap (for copper and brass, you drive up to the garage bay), you will be in and out of there quickly. I drive a large truck there, so I have to drive the truck on and off a scale, and then drive over to the scrap piles to unload the iron and steel scrap. Still, I'm in and out of there fairly quickly ... if there is any delay, it's usually due to other customers' vehicles blocking the scale.
Once you are done offloading any iron and steel, you drive the truck back on the scale for re-weighing. Today, some dude who was driving a pickup truck for an appliance company had dumped some old appliances and then drove onto the scale to get re-weighed. But, when employees waved him off the scale, he backed off the scale and left his truck IN FRONT OF the scale, as he went inside to collect his money, holding up me and another customer (then this brainiac walks back to the truck, wearing two earbuds ... um, buddy, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to drive with headphones). Yeah, so sometimes you will get inconsiderate customers, but the employees here are totally cool.
They give you a detailed printout of the weight and prices of each category of scrap metal you turned in, and, of course, pay you in cash. read more
