Pulled pork sandwich, waffle fries, Mac and cheese, jalapeño cheese sausage, flour tortillas
    Alyssa L.

We went to the new location in McAllen that just opened last week. I honestly enjoyed most of what we ordered. My brother and I had the pulled pork sandwiches with waffle fries. The pork itself was pretty good, wasn't the best but it had good flavor. I was disappointed in the amount that was actually in my sandwich. Especially compared to what my mom's chopped brisket sandwich looked like. The meat on her sandwich was piled on high. I liked that the buns were buttered and toasted. The waffle fries were delicious! They had good seasoning and were nice and crispy. We also ordered Mac and cheese. So I don't think by most people's standards, it was anything spectacular BUT it reminded me of the Mac and cheese we would order at Luby's and it was very nostalgic for me so I really liked it. The same goes for the bbq beans. They were sweet and reminded me of beans my dad used to make so I enjoyed those as well. I also ordered some of their jalapeño cheese sausage and I thought it was pretty good! It had a nice snap to it. Now on to the tortillas. Omg these were so good! Homemade! They had two ladies rolling them and cooking them right up front. Now I didn't order brisket but my mom ordered a chopped brisket sandwich but she doesn't like moist (fatty) brisket so when I tasted her lean chopped brisket it was DRY. I didn't care for it but she seemed to enjoy it and I suppose if you douse it in their bbq sauce, which was really good too, it probably wasn't that bad. So unless you love sauce, I'd be hesitant to order lean brisket. However, I've read reviews about their moist brisket being dry as well. I guess I'll just have to see next time around. I've read reviews on here about terrible service. This McAllen location just opened up so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks and trying to be quick and organized. We were prepared to wait and we did. About 25-30 minutes, which they warned us about as we were ordering. No biggie. I've also read about food being cold. Not an issue with us! My mom took a bite of my fries and they were pretty hot! The Mac and cheese was steaming as well! There were servers walking around, bringing people their food, asking if we had everything we needed and even brought us to go containers. Even though there were a ton of people, there were plenty of places to sit and we were able to help ourselves to condiments, which I love because I love snacking on pickles! The space was clean with workers constantly picking up and wiping down tables so that's always nice to see. The prices I think were fairly reasonable for it being a bbq place. Three of us ate for about 65 bucks! I'd go back and visit to try something different!

    Moist brisket cut!

Went to new location in Mcallen. Brisket needs work, Brisket had no flavor, cuts were pretty bad asked for moist brisket. Brisket sandwich had plenty of meat, bbq sauce was ok, Brisket needs more work to be considered a good bbq restaurant, Any order to go is a mistake.beware, lack of meat, fries, fried pickles were all soggy.. Dine in option is a little better!! Nice atmosphere,

Our BBQ potatoes were bad! After I posted about mine and not eating it, my husband became sicker than a dog! We always enjoy Reyna's, but we won't be back. I can't believe the cook or servers didn't notice. I did the minute I opened it.

Reynas bbq was pretty decent. I was say it's pretty much the same as Rudy's, but a little cheaper and a better seating arrangement. The meats I had were moist and lean brisket. Both were cooked very well and thought they were pretty good. Could have use a little more flavor. The pulled pork I thought was the best of the three. Seasoned well and tasted great. The mashed potatoes were really good...but tasted pretty much like standard mashed potatoes The downside I thought was the lack of bbq sauce options. Was only one and I'm fairly certain it was just cookies bbq sauce. The Cole slaw wasn't very good, was really dry. I prefer a Cole slaw like KFCs, personal preference though. I qtebwith two other folks and they both raved about the macaroni and cheese. One of them love chicken strips and really enjoyed the dinosaur chicken nuggets. They have a 15% military discount as well. I would definitely give this place another try to improve the rating.

Food was not good at all. It was suppose to be BBQ but tasted more like "fast food". No flavor what so ever.

Surprised how good it was. Chicken was amazing and the Mexican sides were a nice touch.

Teddys BBQ: A Disappointing Experience Unworthy of the Top 50…read moreTeddys BBQ, a celebrated winner of the "Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Awards," arrived with high expectations that were, unfortunately, decimated by the actual experience. Arriving at 11:10 AM, just after opening, we anticipated fresh, high-quality smoked meats and homemade sides. What we received was an uninspiring meal that leads me to question the legitimacy of its Top 50 status--and frankly, its place in the Top 100. This visit was a letdown, especially compared to the twelve other far superior BBQ joints we tasted this past week. The Meats: Misses and One Minor Hit The foundation of the barbecue here was weak, suggesting corner-cutting or, worse, reheating of old product. * Brisket: This was the biggest disappointment. The slice was terrible--dry, lacking juice, and with a bark that was chewy rather than crisp. It looked and tasted suspiciously like leftovers reheated from the day before, which is unacceptable minutes after opening. * Ribs: Nothing special here. They lacked the depth of smoke flavor and suffered from a distracting, undesirable "hammy" taste. There wasn't much meat on the bone, and the glaze was applied too lightly, failing to add any necessary sweetness or texture. * Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: This was the sole highlight of the meat offerings. It was a nice standard sausage with a good peppery snap to the casing and a satisfying ooze of cheddar cheese. It offered a nice, reliable counterpoint to the lackluster smoked proteins. Failed Opportunity: The Texas Twinkie The infamous Texas Twinkie completely missed the mark. While the basic concept of a bacon-wrapped, cream-cheese-stuffed jalapeño is sound, the execution here was poor. The filling was overwhelmingly cream cheese, which completely sucked the flavor out of the jalapeño and bacon. It was a great opportunity wasted by failing to include a bit of smoked brisket or chicken to give it complexity. Sides: Bland, Bland, Bland The sides tasted uninspired, suggesting they were prepared from a can or box rather than crafted from scratch--an unforgivable sin for a purported Top 50 establishment. * Creamed Corn: It was creamy but utterly bland. It needed significant elevation--perhaps charring the corn kernels or adding some diced jalapeño pieces for heat and brightness. * Mexican Rice: This was mushy and flavorless. It desperately lacked the savory depth and spice expected of Mexican rice. A small addition of pork or brisket trimmings would have provided necessary flavor and prevented it from tasting so generic. Dessert: An Unprofessional Finish The Grapefruit Pie was the final letdown. The filling tasted okay, but the crust was clearly store-bought. To be considered a Texas elite, every component should be homemade and excellent. This felt like an amateur concession. Final Verdict Overall, Teddys BBQ was profoundly uninspiring. Given that we arrived right after opening, expecting the freshest quality, and having recently toured 12 genuinely great BBQ places, this location falls far short. It simply does not belong in the Top 50, or even the Top 100. Teddys has a lot of room for improvement if it wants to justify its ranking.

We enjoyed our lunch here…read more First time at a Teddy's BBQ. You order at the counter as you walk in, then pay at the end of the line, then your food tray handed to you. Two of us shared the following: - Chopped brisket sandwich - 1/2 pound pork ribs (2-bones) - Creamed corn side - Loaded mashed potatoes side - Bread, pickles and onions - Banana pudding - 2 fountain drinks The food was all real good. On the way out, we stopped by the meat smoking area to watch them wrap some briskets. We'd come back to Teddy's.
