Habaneros Mexican Taqueria - Tacos de barbacoa

Hands down, some of the best authentic Mexican tacos I've ever had!…read more I stopped in for lunch at Habaneros Mexican Taqueria in Pompano Beach and was absolutely blown away. This place is the real deal. The tacos are cooked to order, so yes--it takes a little time. But wow, is it worth the wait. I had two tacos: asada and carnitas. Both came out hot off the grill with generous, juicy portions of perfectly seasoned meat. The flavors were rich and fresh, and the texture was spot-on. What really set them apart, though, were the homemade corn tortillas--warm, slightly chewy, and clearly made in-house with care. Just fantastic. I skipped the cilantro (not my thing), but the freshly diced onions added a nice crunchy contrast. And the salsas--oh man. They brought out two squeeze bottles, one red and one green. The green salsa was my favorite: cold, zesty, just the right amount of heat (about 5/10), and full of flavor and texture. The red salsa had a deeper kick and great flavor too--definitely not shy on the spice. A final squeeze of the lime wedge brought everything together perfectly. If you're in the area and love tacos, this spot is a must. I'm already planning my next visit.

Worst tacos ever! Tacos had no flavor at all..the sauce was disgusting. Will never get food here…read moreagain

I've tried the chicken, spicy citrus pork, carne asada, mahi-mahi, and birria tacos, plus the BBQ brisket tostada, and literally everything has been delicious. My wife loves the steak quesadilla and mahi-mahi tacos, too! Honestly, I don't even know all the ingredients in each dish, and there are probably things I wouldn't normally like on their own. But the way they balance the flavors and put everything together? Incredible. Every bite takes you straight to Flavortown--Guy Fieri was right about this place! The service has been amazing every single visit. Everyone is friendly, the food comes out fast, and the place is really clean. It's a small spot with just two indoor tables, some bar stools, and about three or four outdoor tables. It feels like an "upscale" hole in the wall, and I mean that in the best way possible. And how could I forget the salted caramel chocolate chunk cookies from Rock Star Pastries?! The caramel melts in your mouth, you get that perfect chewy bite, and then the chocolate hits. SO good. Do yourself a favor and save room for one! If I could come here every day, I would. 10/10 recommend!

I waited until it was the 5th most recent steak burrito. The steak itself now tastes & textures like stew style beef. Before it was juicy and literally tasted like grilled steak cut up into pieces. Maybe they still grill it maybe they don't who knows but it just doesn't taste the same. The mahi mahi burrito my wife usually gets she doesn't like anymore and says it's just not the same. The fire roasted salsa I miss a lot. Hey, will the real old-school Los Bocados please stand up. I have money and I desperately want to give it to you. Please come back I beg you. PS - One thing is still great, that Smokey Aioli.

We are typically seated right away, and the chips and salsa arrive almost immediately. One thing that has changed recently is their chips and salsa policy. They used to provide additional chips and salsa at no charge, but now they charge for refills. I believe it was around $3 for an extra order, which feels a little excessive. Our favorite menu item is the fajitas for two, with half chicken and half steak. It comes with six taco shells, a sizzling skillet loaded with meat, peppers, and onions, plus a plate of lettuce, pico, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Everything is super flavorful, and it's always more than enough food for us. I also like adding the table salsa to my tacos, although I'll probably do that less often now that extra salsa comes with an added charge. The service is consistently good and attentive, and we're usually in and out without any long wait. While I'm not a fan of the new chips and salsa charge, the food, convenience, and service keep us coming back. Overall, it's a reliable spot that we enjoy visiting.

I love when restaurants offer complimentary chips and salsa--I truly feel that should be a staple at every restaurant, even non-Mexican ones. The steak quesadilla was really good. The steak had great flavor, and the meal itself was very filling. The toppings made it even better. The drinks were also great--strong without feeling like I was drinking pure sugar. Despite our large group, the staff was very attentive and made sure everyone was satisfied. We sat outside, and it was very nice. The vibe was great, and the weather was perfect. I will definitely be coming back, and I would highly recommend this place for large groups.
