I think an important thing to remember when reviewing any Coles location is that the average Coles…read morestore doesn't have the square footage to offer the same amount of stock as most Chapter and Indigo stores so any comparison between them is somewhat unfair. Like Jeanette mentioned they do have a pretty decent magazine collection here as well as a great discount section. One of the things that really stands out for me infact is how well done their discount sections are. They are always kept tidy and full as well as being really well organized. On my trip today infact I noticed one of their discount sections had been done up with books that featured British culture. I thought that was pretty cool considering alot of book stores discount sections are usually just a mish mash of sale stuff. The customer service here is also worth mentioning. The staff seem a bit more mature and I have never come in and noticed any of the stereotypical apathetic retail working teens. I usually get at the very least a greeting and more often then not offers of assistance with finding what im looking for as well. They also do an excellent job of promoting their charities like the love of reading without coming across as pushy. With all that being said however I am not able to give as much business to this store as I would like. I do have weird "luck" when shopping here for my favorite series that I can either find the newest release in the series but none of the books that came before it or all of the books that came before it but not the new release itself. I have to quote Jeanette again when I say that it seems the primary focus of this location is promoting what is on the best seller list. When it comes to the cities bookstores as a whole admittedly Londonderry Coles is nowhere close to being at the top of that list but in terms of smaller lower traffic locations I think it's definitely worth a look if you live in the area or just happen to find yourself in the mall.

This Coles is located in Londonderry Mall. It's a really nice location, because it's rather new and…read morea great improvement over the old location that used to be located upstairs. I don't find myself here very often though, because when I need a book, I almost always order it online from either Chapters or Amazon. But I come here a lot, when I'm just hanging out at the mall with nothing to do. The magazine selection here is decent. They have some good magazines like The Walrus, The Atlantic, and I'm almost certain I have seen Adbusters here. The selection of books isn't bad, but honestly I've hardly ever found a title I was searching for as a last-minute Christmas present. This store seems to promote best-sellers the most, forgetting about Canadian authors all together, which is rather disappointing. I do like their discounted books though. There are often some great recipe books or just interesting reads on topics like travel, history, or famous people.

What sets Listen apart from the other indie record shops in the city is that they seem to cater to…read morethe contemporary, modern rock, Sonic 102-listening crowd. They're frequented by the fedora-wearing music geeks with black-framed glasses, usually seen carrying a leather shoulder bag with a a big flap (presumably to carry their records in.) If you can imagine a universe where Joy Division never broke up, the Chemical Brothers became the new Beatles, and Lisa Loeb is still hot, than you will enjoy Listen Records & CDs. The staff at Listen is awesome. Very nice, personable guys with a lot of patience. My wife went there recently with a long list of items that she was seeking out for me. She said that the dude working the check-out was totally cool and didn't mind looking up every item on the list to see if it was available, and if not, where she could find it. He didn't even exhibit any signs of musical snobbery towards my classic rock and metal leanings. She came home full of raves (and records). If you're into metal or older rock music, Listen won't be your ideal stop, but it's great for people who aren't into mainstream stuff. Listen has a demographic in mind and they who know their target audience is.

As of recent I have gotten on a vinyl kick. And with this store being in walking distance of my new…read moreplace it's convenient and fun to browse. The music selection is a great mix of popular "common items you can get at HMV" to deeper cuts of genre's. With my music tastes I can find my things with relative ease. the rock/pop section has a good mix of indie label back catalogue and major releases. the Punk and Metal sections are great dives for fans of these genre's like me. the other sections are similar quality and mix in the different and slightly obscure to really obscure. The local music section is a great inclusion because as a inspiring musician it provides a market place for you're music. I have a few things that could be better 1: the prices: Now I know vinyl is expensive and I like buying things new but It's more of a me problem not a store problem 2: lack of CD and cassette sections: I know the reason most people go is for the vinyl (including me) but I like Cd's for the price and for ease of supply to find at a hmv. I understand it's not a shop for a non-specific market and they have used selection which is a good middle ground. 3: The store is a little to cluttered for my taste the vinyl section has good spacing between sections put the overstock shelf and the back door 7 inch singles is very narrow and the counter is a little to big. Outside of these minor pet peeves I highly enjoy this place, the staff is nice and knows there music. i have purchased 5 vinyls and 2 cassettes from them hears the list Vinyl: Sonic Youth: Goo Black Flag: My War Nirvana: Bleach Tad: Gods Balls Nine Inch Nails: pretty Hate machine Cassette: Death Cab For Cutie: Kintsugi Gender Poutine : My dad sucks

I've attended this show off and on since the late 90's and watched the process. There is nothing wrong with the Pop Culture Fair. Its not the Edmonton Expo but its not a Flea Market. Its not super prestigious but its not super ghetto. Its a series of actual vendors plus a bunch of people selling their stuff. If you need more shine and glitz when shopping, go to the mall. If you are a collector there is probably something there for you. If you are a bargain hunter you will probably find some deals. There will almost certainly be a few people asking too much for their goods. Nothing shocking really but rather par for the course. Also, admission is free if you make an effort to dress up as a pop culture character. I salute the event organizer for trying. I would rather defend a show like this against the haters than not have it at all. So basically, it may not be your cup of tea but just cause you like Iced Coffee instead doesn't mean it sucks.

I'm not much for book reading but if something catches my eye I tend to buy it. A great place to find a selection of books but if you want a definite answer for a specific book at location just check it through their website. Website: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/ I find it very useful. They also added a section for unique gift shopping like mugs, bento lunchbox, & etc. A section for children books which is great for the easter season. Accessories such as book-markers are handy. Atmosphere is like a library but fresh books ready to be bought, staff is friendly, & parking is large. Starbucks is connected to the store which is quite nice. Recommended for anyone looking for a book or just a browse.

We just parked at the back and walked around. The book we were getting signed was displayed right after walking in. There was confusion which way the line was going to pay though. The line when straight back but then it hit a book shelf and people lined up on either side of it. For busy times, it would be great to know where to stand. The layout isn't ideal with the shelves forming a V instead of horizontal lines. Even though the layout isn't great, the store is big and has lots of selection. They had children activities going on and it was great to see staff there and families doing crafts. The book signing line was along the wall by the Starbucks. People would cross to access the magazine area but it wasn't a major inconvenience for everyone. The staff were good to make sure we paid for our book and asked for our names for the book to be personalized. Someone offered to take our photo with the author which was a nice touch. I didn't browse much but did see to the side of the cash area is the stationary and gift area. A great addition to the strip mall but not a place I would frequent on busy weekends.
