Had a situation of a factory misprint on a record at record collectors paradise recently. It was a strange surprise when I excitedly went to play a newly purchased RED HOT's vinyl and realized the actual audio of the vinyl itself was mis-pressed with a different genre entirely! Naturally there can't really be any blame, as the label even read exactly as it was supposed to. Bit of a bummer as it was a rare record, in my price range, and I was super stoked to acquire it. In all fairness the staff attempted every available option to solve the issue. Unfortunately, they couldn't give me my money back, but instead store credit, with a small bonus. This kinda sucked as I am broke and didn't get what I was hoping for. I wasn't aware of the store policy of no refunds. However, the staff was super solid to handle the intensity and I am on a list to hopefully get it replaced when a future order comes in, as to benefit my Uplift Mofo Party Plan. I hope to have continued good vibes with this business. They do a great job. In past days I have recommended them extensively and will continue to, especially when someone is looking for something specific. I would slightly hesitate to crown them as the best record store in Edmonton, only because all the record suppliers of this city have different strengths and virtues to their skillset. However, this store is like an air strike of vinyl and the selection available is impressive and formidable. Plus, the staff is as knowledgeable as one can hope for. Long story short, looking forward to eventually getting said record, finger crossed. No bad blood intended, as other times it has been dimes and good luck. Con artists pure and simple -- what started as a verbal $500.00 answer to "what are you asking", ended up as a waltz thru their used records and paraphenalia rooms, to outside the store for more B.S. -- and finally a B.S. 'final' of $60.00 for over $3Gs of excellent condition, (preserved with L.A.S.T.), 33 1/3 vinyl albums from the '70s, '80s and '90s. I have had a recurring dream where I am in looking around in a record store, finding titles by my favourite artists that I have never seen before or heard of. After discovering Record Collectors Paradise, my dreams have come true! Hidden away on a side street in a residential area, Record Collectors Paradise has a huge amount of vinyl, both used and vintage, including thousands of 45s, from all musical genres and time periods. Lining the walls are CDs, cassettes, DVDs, and even eight-tracks. I found the prices to be reasonable and the stock organized in a way that was fairly easy to navigate. Service was very friendly, and there is a large discount area that I did not check out this time. In the shop today, listened to an employee and a customer discussing the current Trucker Protests. Both were in favour of the protests and very clearly stated this along with disparaging another record store owner for his beliefs as they didn't agree with these two. I was tempted to not engage but when I went to buy my purchases they were continuing to discuss the protests. I expressed my disagreement rather strongly and asked the customer what he felt was the purpose of the horns, he clearly stated, to annoy people so they will listen. This man was a trucker himself, I let him know I was a nurse and felt very strongly against the protests. Further I expressed my dismay that fellow nurses are being told not to wear their scrubs in public for fear of retaliation based on the current negative climate towards health care workers. He simply stated "I'm sorry you feel that way." This man was a trucker himself as I heard in the conversation with Bruce, the store employee. Always felt this was an inclusive and open shop until today. I have been in the shop countless times and never have I felt the need to say anything to anyone about what I've heard there. Respect and courtesy has always been present until today. This kind of talk and gossip about other shop owners in the city is not what should be heard here. This place kick ass. Brought my 82 year old dad in there along with me who was visiting.. we ended up spending 2-3 hrs. Great selection and hidden gems. I'll def make a point of returning every so often. Walked out of there with maybe a couple dozen records. read more

This place is crazy, Bruce the owner has done a great job in developing the space into a pretty cool record store to hang out in and search through lp's. One whole wall is cd's alone and the other wall is box upon box of 45rpm. They have a huge selection of vinyl and wide variety of artists. They have such an array of albums,even vintage gear from Receivers to Turntables it's mind boggling. Drop by and visit Bruce, Reg his Manager and the other guys who are a wealth of information. Extremely overpriced on new records , they are 30% to 70% more than everyone else in the city. Vintage records are over graded and always quite a bit more than other places . Shop around you can usally get 2 records for the price of one from this place . Most records are now $50 each many other places sell for 26 . Every time you go to the till to pay they will try and up sell You on some crap as if it is the holy grail. ( This led zepland first pressings is in such bad condition because jimmy page used to play fetch with his dog and use it as a frisbee) read more

Record Collectors Paradise is hands down the best record store in the Edmonton area, and probably anywhere in the Prairies. These guys work hard to keep their selection of vinyl always massive, representative of every genre and era, and dynamic! Stuff is always moving so every time you go in you're guaranteed to find something delightful, no matter your budget. The staff members are super friendly and knowledgeable. RCP is just a gem. First time being here and wasn't sure what to expect. It's a vinyl collectors wet dream! Prices are competitive and you can also find some hidden deals if you're willing to dig for them. Great selection of tapes, cds, and audio equipment as well. Good place to go when you're looking for that one record that you can't find or don't want to risk getting gouged online. Reasonable on a recent trade in of old vinyl 33s and 45s. Will definitely keep going back! read more

Large collection of 45's organized somewhat alphabetically and somewhat by era (50's-70's) (80's-??). Highly picked over and not well curated. No real knowledge of what they've got. No prices marked. I'm sure there are a few gems in there somewhere...in a place like this, putting in the work and digging for those gems is half the fun. However, they will gladly let you dig for hours and let you do all the work. And, when it's time to check out, they will gladly google the titles and proceed to expect the highest value listed on-line. ...quite frankly, the laziest, greediest, and naive, record shop I've been to in quite some time. If I wanted to pay eBay prices, I wouldn't have wasted my time visiting there store and essentially doing all the work for them...I would have stayed home, googled the titles I wanted and paid the premium for someone else to hunt down, clean, grade, and ship me my records. I wish them all the luck in the world. Don't expect much heavy rotation of their stock...nothing is priced to move. Especially, when it is believed to be all gold. I would imagine the 45's you see will be there for a very, very long time to come. In response to the stores comment: 1. I never once mentioned or ever expected to pay "a buck a piece" for anything in the store. Your claim to "below market value" seems only relative to whatever website sold the most expensive copy...minus any real methodology of grading. 2. As far as knowing how "retail works," I would say it's a fair assessment that most (If not all) retailers mark a price on the items they want to sell. 3. I've been to many record shops across Canada and the USA. Some much larger than yours (Jerry's in Pittsburgh comes to mind) with every single record marked to sell. The larger shops tend to mark 45's to move inventory (I.E. large sorted sections of $1, $3, $5 etc.) There's no reason to loosely sort 20,000 records and just throw them out on the shelves. Why make the customer do your job and then turn around and charge a premium? You could easily still have thousands of well curated and sorted and priced 45's on your sales floor by simply spending a few hours a week sorting them. In the end, you would be more informed of what you have, what it's worth, and maybe even understand that the reason you have a hundred thousand records laying around is because you think there all priceless...tho, you are not really in this for the music or for collecting...rather, you seem like some moron that just saw a freight container full of records and saw dollar signs. I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope someday you actually sell all of your records...tho, I imagine in ten years, you will still have most of them. read more

Went in for the first time and found almost twenty records that I was interested in. They all were marked at $6.99 but when I got to the till they were rung in at $14.95 $10.95 etc. Told the sticker price was not theirs so they wouldn't sell them at the price. Walked out with only one. Terrible customer service. read more

I thought this was a very good, used record store for classic and newer rock, and jazz albums in 33 1/3 format. The selection was quite diverse; the prices were moderately high while remaining fair. I say this because every album I pulled out was visually clean and nicely protected, so certainly a lot of effort has gone into maintaining the vinyl. (I can't vouch for 'how' they clean the records, although I did not inquire either.) Unfortunately I only had about 75 minutes to check out the store, being from out of town and on a schedule. But I will return the next time I am in Edmonton so I think that vouches for the establishment. And in case it helps, I found this store to be comparable to Apollo or RedCat in the Vancouver, BC area. In the end I left with a used Bonnie Raitt's "Nick of Time" and a sealed reissue of Nirvana's "Nevermind". I'd suggest checking it out. :) read more

This place has an impressive amount of used vinyl. Unfortunately they price their vinyl as if everything was in mint condition. I prefer the other indie shops in town. There I'll find their used vinyl priced fairly and graded properly. read more
