After running around multiple game stores in search of (3)DS games and being told they no longer carried them, we were recommended to check out Just For Fun. We walked in without a particular game in mind, more just wanting to browse their Pokemon, Zelda, Kirby, and Fire Emblem stock, plus any other nostalgic games we came across. Sure enough, they had large selection of Nintendo games available, from GameCube, GameBoy, DS, Wii and the Switch. The store was very quiet, as we were the only customers inside during our whole visit. The front employee was very friendly and helpful, ensuring to check up on us periodically as I took my time looking through their selection. The way this store is organized makes it more suiting for those who have a good idea of what they are looking for, as most of their games are stored in cases or behind the counter. For those just browsing like I was, it is really hard to see what they have behind the counter, as there is a fair distance between you and the shelf. I did appreciate that they were alphabetically organized though! Many of their games also don't come in cases, so if you're curious about what the game is about, you have to look it up on your phone or ask the staff. The other inconvenience was that the games are not marked with prices, so again, you have to ask the employee each time which I found a little tedious. As for their game selection, there were very limited Pokemon and Zelda games, and no Fire Emblem games. That's obviously not a fault on their part, but if you have a particular game in mind, I would recommend calling ahead of time to see if they do have it available. read more

The owner does a great job of creating a welcoming atmosphere, and I always feel like I get a great price for my trade-ins. And boy, do they have a lot of video games! Definitely worth the 4/5 review at this place. Customer service: the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable, which is needed for these kinds of items being sold. Sometimes the smallest details are missed but they definitely catch it. Products: they sell some new and some used/old. The used and old stuff is more for just collectors which is good but if someone just wants to play an old ps2, the price isn't quite reflective of todays capabilities. We had a craving for an old movie that was not on Netflix or Crave. Stopped in and we were in luck as they had one on DVD here. For 5 bucks....that's basically the same price you would rent it online for. Some items in here are a bit over priced but there is some wiggle room. Especially if you are getting multiple items you can ask for a deal. On another visit we bought 3 seasons of a tv show. Each were priced at $25 but we were offered $20 each if we bought all 3. Also if there are lots of the same movie in stock then there is a better chance that they are able to give you a better price. Besides movies they also carry lots of video games and systems. They have been around for a long time and keep the formula simple. Have the rare stuff and therefore if you are searching they may just be the first and last place you need to go to. However be prepared to pay a lot to get that old school gem you long for. They have some of the highest prices around so a quick search of kijiji or the pawn shops may pay off better. If you want it fast however and money isn't a big deal to get what you want fast then this is the place. Don't expect super service but they will try and help if "you" ask them for the help. I looked for an old atari power cord without help for a while just to see if anyone would eventually ask me but nope. Any way I did find it and bought it as well as and old school Goldeneye 64 game that was hella expensive but convenient. They have all systems and rare ones at that and carry movies, adaptors, guides etc so really do have most of what someone wants. Give them a try but bring your wallet ;) read more

I've been to quite a few used video game shops throughout the years. What sets this one apart for me is the cleanliness. Nothing grosses me out more than walking into a smelly store full of other people's filth, and there is none of that here!!! Thank you Just For Fun! The customer service was great. The owner herself helped us out, and gave us a bit of history of her store. It's been there since 1992, and her motto is nothing goes on the shelf unless it's clean enough for her to take home and put on her own dining room table. And it shows. I do agree with other reviewers that the prices for some things may seem higher than the average. This is a good place to go for old school hard to find games, so you're going to be paying more anyways. Honestly if I had the choice of buying from this store, or searching for a better price elsewhere, I'd buy it from here just knowing its clean. Terrible return service. Bought a used GTAV for ps4 for $50 which is ridiculous. On top of that when installing to console it stopped at 60% and that takes hours to do. We restarted the install and it did the same thing and this took a day. My bf tried to take it back only to tell him they dont accept day after returns. Which is absurd! this game is huge and takes hours to install and if they run a gaming store they should know that and take that into consideration but they refused to give our money back for the broken game and forced him to exchange instead. ( they dont have alot of great games!) They Shouldnt be selling Scratched and Broken games !!!!!!!!! youre better off buying from kijiji. got mine for $30 from some dude. read more

Just for Fun is one of those places where people must ask themselves if they are willing to pay a little more to support a small local business. The staff here were pretty nice and very eager to help us find what we were looking for on our first trip in. They also have a loyalty program where after a certain number of purchases you get 10 dollars off I believe. They have an awesome selection of rare older titles as well as hands down the best selection of used consoles I have seen anywhere in the city. In terms of titles for current systems however I do not think that anyone would argue with me when I say they are charging entirely too much. A loose copy of Sonic Colors for the DS for instance is NOT worth $14.99. I picked this one up at Nexwave games for $4.99. A couple of dollars difference between competitor shops doesn't usually phase me but $10.00 hovers dangerously near insulting in my books. I have not done any trade ins with them so I can not speak about that aspect of their business but as a buyer there was enough positive for me to be interested in returning to add to my retro collection. However I would likely take a pass next time I want something for my 3DS or PS4 in favor of Nexwave or even EB Games. read more

I can honestly say that this place is the best video game store in Edmonton. It has everything from old school favourites like the Nintendo 64 to newer games like the 360. Every time I've been there I've found exactly what I was looking for as opposed to other video game stores - plus it has a lot more to offer. Not only is the variety of games/DVDs/consoles amazing, but the customer service is always exceedingly pleasant and friendly. The environment is also very warm and inviting. They always give me a nice experience every time I go there. One time I called on a holiday hoping it'd be open - obviously expecting it to be closed because what place would be open at 8pm on a holiday? Not this place, they let us know that they were closed but offered to open up just for our service so we could buy a game we spent the whole day trying to find. This place is awesome and I highly suggest going to it! 5/5 you will not regret. read more

Not a bad little store...some of the prices are steep, but if it's something average they'll cut you a deal.

I walked in the store and was shocked at how inflated the prices were. This place needs to start pricing games reasonably instead of jacking the prices up on every single game they own. I also witnessed them re-sealing a boxed game, just to turn around and tell a customer that the box has never been opened and is factory sealed, which is just plain dishonest. If you're looking for fair priced games, try Play N Trade, Grandma's attic, Action Exchange pawn shop, Kijiji, or e-bay instead. read more

they have an amazing selection of games. Especially for the Old School gamer. But they truly have the most ridiculous prices that I have ever seen. They make Game Traders in Calgary (both locations) look cheap...and that's saying a lot. Old games can be expensive. I can understand having high prices on rare and hard to find games. But when they have 10 copies of a very common NES games, they still have insane prices. I am taking blow you away insanely expensive prices. If you want something and don't want to hunt for it or deal with online shipping , etc. I guess it's a good option. They do have some great items. But the grossly inflated prices have made me a one time shopper. read more
