This was my first time to Revolution Colour Studio. I was fortunate enough to have received Mary as my colorist, after months and months of not touching my hair(due to COVID). Mary was a blessing. This was the first time ever that I received a call from my stylist a day or two before my appt, asking me what my hair goals were and if I could send any photos of my ideal color and cut, which I thought showed great due diligence and honestly passion. I have not stepped foot in a salon since January 2020. I grew out my bangs, and grew out my color, leaving my hair looking...interesting. My hairstylist of over a decade left during the pandemic, so I did not know what to do. I found RC Studio in Yelp and figured I'd give it a whirl. We were all masked. I felt pretty safe in there. That's a huge statement coming from me, as I am immunodeficient and almost go nowhere. Toni was amazing. She listened, she looked at the picture I brought, and she did a beautiful cut. I have been going to this magnificent salon for years. At first with Jyl, the owner, and guru when it comes to extensions and frankly everything else. Now for two years or so I have been going to Toni. Toni was trained by Jyl and very talented in her own right. From cutting, to coloring, and styling. When Toni is finished I feel (and look!!) fabulous. The hair, cut perfectly swings and falls in the right places and shines, shines, shines. Expertise matched with a sunny personality. Best hair experience of my life. My mom referred me here several months after an unfortunate run in with a mood disorder, scissors, and a magazine article promoting bangs. I saw Michael and he changed me. He was so good. My hair transformation was so impeccable. He is a joy to talk to and also Jill (the owner who tackled my mom's hair) would chime in and the whole experience was therapeutic and made me feel so much better about myself on the other end. I went twice because I don't take good enough care of myself and my hair is oft neglected, by months after my last cut with Michael I wish I was back in NoVA to see him. I've never colored my hair so I don't know about how that works there but wow my cut was perfect and grew out so well and I can't emphasize how nice everyone was. I just had my first salon appointment with Becca and Jyll in more than six months. A wonderful experience! They are Very COVID alert. I had the salon to myself, with just Becca and Toni. Great salon. Wish I had found them sooner ( I've been seeing them now going on two years). COVID worriers need not. They are doing everything right including sanitizing stations in between customers. I heartily recommend both Jyll and Becca. They do my impossibly long blonde hair with nary a complaint and sell great products. And an added plus! .... They will not force products on you like my last salon did. ( but now that I've tried them I have to say they are great products ). My daughter now goes to Jyll as well. Wow, after having a great first few experiences at this salon and spending close to a thousand dollars in two appointments between services and products, I am sad to say that after the customer service I just experienced you could not pay me to go back. Please note that this is the first negative review I have ever written but I am so appalled at what just transpired, I feel I have no choice. I have had my hair colored for over thirty years and my hair is very resilient and I am always more than happy to sign a waiver so that everyone is comfortable. I also have posted a recent picture so one can see that there is no reason color/bleach can't be applied to my hair. I made an appointment for Saturday for a full head of balayage and a deep condition treatment, cut and glossing; probably another $500 day. The receptionist made my appointment with no issue. I received a call about four hours later from the stylist whom let me know that she would not color my hair until she saw it; even though she has colored it a handful of times before with no issue. Explaining that she is not licensed yet and needed to feel comfortable. A little strange since she has colored it before. Not thrilled with this but trying to make the best of it, I agreed to come in for a consultation prior to my Saturday appointment. The stylist put me back on the phone with the receptionist to schedule this "consultation" and informed me that in order to schedule the appointment, they would need to collect a balance of $61.50 from me for appointment l missed in February. Dumbfounded that this was not mentioned when I made the initial appointment or mentioned by the unlicensed stylist on the phone, I explained to the receptionist that first and foremost, after spending close to $1000 between services and products for two appointments, I found this to be incredulous. Additionally, I have enough respect for other people's time that I would not just miss an appointment. Unfortunately, I had a family emergency and called to cancel my appointment the day I was due to come in. Nonetheless, I cancelled this appointment and will go back to one of the other many salons in the area. It just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by its cover. What makes this even worse is that the stylist was an acquaintance of mine and I was happy to go to her as the few times she did my color she did a good job and I was happy to give her the business as she is getting her life back together. Having owned several businesses in the Northern Va area and dealing with the public on a daily basis, I guess customer service can't be taught and greed and unprofessionalism were notably evident in what transpired today. I couldn't imagine treating or speaking to one of my clients this way. At this point I would not recommend this salon to anyone. How their treatment and policies drastically changed from my initial visit to today are profound and exemplify poor business practices and customer relations. Truly a shame and while I have enough decorum to not name names in such a public forum, I will absolutely tell those that ask and make sure not only do they know all of this but they know the background of the employees that they are actually dealing with there because as is in life; everything is not as it always appears. As they say in real estate.....buyer beware this is not a salon to be trusted as they have just proven so blatantly. read more

I went to Jade for cut and color. The color was decent but I would not recommend her for a haircut. I had very long hair and asked for a blunt cut at 3 inches-- I left with hair 6-7 inches shorter! I was (and still am) so upset about this. I had to go to someone else to touch up the choppy cut a few weeks later. It's been 3 months and I'm still paying for it read more

This salon is a treat, with a friendly, attentive staff and the nice usuals, such as filtered water, tea and tons of magazines. I like it because the people who work here look like people I'd like to know. It's nice. Products are superior. But Jyll is extraordinary. She listens and offers relevant advice, and it's her knowledge of hair that keeps me coming back. She is an expert. She knows how to make my hair look its best. I am always grateful when I leave the salon, and I know my hair is in excellent hands when I visit. She's skilled, realistic, and open. I started going to Jyll when she worked at Elements and am delighted that she now has her own salon, which is clean, comfortable, stylish, and equipped with the latest salon technology. Jyll is a very talented stylist and she really listens to my requests and concerns. She also knows that I am very low-maintenance when it comes to styling my hair at home, and gives me a haircut that looks great and is easy for me to manage on my own. When I chopped over ten inches of my hair to donate, she gave me a really stylish mid-length cut that I love! She took pains to make sure that I would be happy with the new cut after such a big change, which I really appreciated. She really knows her stuff, and I'm always impressed at how perfect and beautiful my hair looks when she is done with it! Not so with Revolution Colour Studio where I've been going since its opening, having followed Jyll, the owner, from a previous salon. While Jyll's talent is what hooked me and keeps me a loyal client, I absolutely love the fact that on the occasions that her and my schedules don't align, I'm able to count on Becca to step in and do an amazing job in coloring and styling my hair. She's super talented, has a great personality and has been a stellar addition to the salon since its opening. Ultimately, Becca's presence there is a testament to Jyll's high standards when it comes to hiring. We're in very different fields but agree that one of the hardest things for a business today is finding quality people. This review is loooonnnggg over due. I went to Michael right before Thanksgiving. I had this unusual blonde ombre that never seemed quite right. After looking at a million pictures on Instagram I stumbled across his page. His color techniques were exactly what I was looking for. The salon is quite and tucked away in McLean. It is not pretentious at all and they really take the time to do a consultation prior to even touching your hair. Here is the verdict: Michael's color theory is ON POINT! I have gotten so confused over the years of exactly what I am looking for I don't know what to tell stylists anymore. I honestly didn't have to tell Michael much. His understanding of what I was looking for was almost inherent. And Michael was very honest with me. He explained that what I was trying to achieve was not a traditional ombre and that we almost had to go toward more a traditional highlight. He was RIGHT. The end result was exactly what I was looking for. Now almost 5 weeks later I was getting ready for work and I realized that my color still looked as fresh as when I got it. I want to point something out: Michael is young. I am not saying this as a negative but to reinforce that his color theory is based off sheer understanding and talent rather than years and years of trial and error. And he is literally the sweetest man. I really enjoyed my time there. The last thing I want to say is that his prices are very reasonable. No gouging and if he suggests an add on he is up front with any additional charges. read more

Great new salon in McLean, right behind Total Wine, run by and excellent stylist (Jyll). If you want someone who will take plenty of time to consider whether or not the cut suits your hair, face, and lifestyle, this is the place for you. She won't let you (or rather, give you) the wrong cut. Or the wrong color. If it's not jjjjuuuusssttt right, she won't be happy. She cuts my son's hair too. You know someone is good when his super thick and super straight hair grows out perfectly, not a hair out of place. It's hard to find someone who can do that--believe me, I've tried a few. The salon itself, being rather new, is a little harder to comment on as they're not up to full staffing yet. Front desk is really nice, easy to book appointments, coffee, etc, while you get your cut. Everything is nice, new, clean, modern. I like that. If you're fussy about your hair, call. But not too often, I don't want to have trouble making appointments. :-) read more

Ended up spending 5 hours here getting the most insanely amazing treatment and left loving my hair more than I ever thought possible. jade (beautiful and so sweet) highlighted my blonde hair using 3 shades of blonde, and spent more time and put more effort into my hair than I have ever received in my life. I have been seeing Michael for about two years now and would recommend him to everyone! He always has a plan for what he wants to do and I really like that because it makes me feel at ease with him. I just relax and let him work his magic. My hair is dark and I have a lot of it so it has been a little problematic in the past. I've had different stylists before complain about my hair and how difficult it is to lift and just complain about the amount of hair I have. It got a little frustrating at times but as soon as I found Michael it was a perfect match! He was able to tame my hair so well and with the balayage technique he has mastered he was able to transform my hair fully! When I go to see Michael and tell him that I'm thinking about changing my color he always has a plan! Which I love! I'll have a couple of ideas and together we work on what's best for my hair. Everything you read on Yelp about Michael is true!! I went in for a consultation and thoroughly explained to me what he thought would look best and then gave me a chance to explain exactly what I wanted. He showed my color swatches before I started so I would know exactly what color my hair would be. My hair came out amazing and it was exactly what I was looking for!! I don't know where to start in praise of Jyll Kaufmann whom I met for the first time in June. Breast cancer therapy has created a hair thinning problem for me and I didn't know who to turn to for help other than a dermatologist who described long term and expensive treatments to the scalp. I needed hair coloring advice from an experienced colorist, a professional who could give a great haircut, and offer advice on my constantly thinning hair issue. Jyll's bio offered all of these and from the moment I walked into this modern upscale salon I was directed to Jyll and her assistant who requested I tell them all of my history on my scalp health, past treatments of hair care and it was immediately obvious Jyll was sincere in helping me to a healthier scalp and thicker hair. I was extremely satisfied with end results. I came away more informed in proper care of the hair follicle to promote thick hair, the products are phenomenal, and my cut and color were outstanding. I rarely write reviews, let alone negative ones, but I wanted to share my recent experience with Revolution Coulour Studio. I chose the salon, and Michael in particular, because of his amazing write-ups and photos. It had been 3 months since my last highlight, so I definitely had some roots. Michael seemed to do a nice job - he chopped my split ends and added blond highlights vs. removing color as prior hairdressers had done. When I went back home, however, I noticed a large part of the top of my head had not been touched. I could still see a block of roots, so I called the salon. They were gracious enough to let me come back in for a complimentary redo. When I went back in, however, Michael had another client and was in a rush. I thought he understood what I wanted, but instead of adding highlights to the areas on the top of my head that he had missed the first time, he highlighted the front strands of my hair using bleach. I didn't have time for a blow dry, but when I went home, I realized that the strands he had worked on had turned white. In a panic, I went back the next day. After 2 rounds of toner and then I think one of color on my whole head, the white was gone, but so were my blond highlights. On top of this, when I went back to my regular stylist, I learned that the highlights were spotty in other places I couldn't see, and that the cut was uneven. Anyway, for $290 (including tips for the 3 times I was there) I will not be going back to Revolution Colour Studio. Michael has a great personality and is a delight to talk to, but for the price I'd rather go to someone with more than a few years of experience. read more
