For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

It is cut way too far in for the face framing pieces on one side only - see picture. This cut will take me 1-2 years to grow out. YES!…read more The owner of the very wonderful, very well-run nail salon (Acqua Nails) in which this hair haven exists runs a tight ship. Everything is sparkling clean; appointments run on time; hair products are in stock but no one pushes you to buy them (yay). And can I get an Aveda? Yes indeed. I have hair that's on the long-ish side, and that's, erm, "multi-faceted" - ridiculously straight on top, outrageously curly everywhere else. Stacy does a great job of cutting it so it behaves even with my very minimalist attention (I won't do anything except brush and go, except maybe the occasional spritz of Aveda hairspray). Something of a miracle. She's also been doing a great job on my color, and listens and remembers things like which line of products I prefer they use when I'm there (I like Aveda, dislike Kerastase). Cost is not cheap, but also not the highly overpriced figures I've paid at other Bethesda salons. Plus - and this is a big one - it's not noisy. No blaring music, no twenty blowdryers going at once. The woman who does the shampoos is lovely, gentle, and thorough. Four stars instead of five because about two years ago, they stopped computerized scheduling (why?), and have a handwritten book. So, at the end of the year, if they don't have the new book for the new year yet, they can't schedule my next appointment (and then I forget and end up with gray roots - yikes). It also means no more automated texts to remind me of my upcoming appointments, which I actually miss. Lastly, they don't accept American Express, and I really wish they would, 'cause I like me my points.
