I also tried a beginner hip hop class which was equally great. Cardio dance is another fun class. Definitely one of my favorites for sure.

They offer a variety of dance programs...and the year ending recital, held at the Patchogue Theater, is very well produced. The classes here tend to be smaller in size compared to the ones over at their other studio in St James. I can only guess, that is due to the greater number of dance schools in the Smithtown area. There are two class rooms, both with one directional glass, so parents can peek in and watch their children without being a distraction. The waiting area is not particularly large and can get a bit crowded, especially around the time classes end and another is about to begin. Another nicety of this location is it's proximity to several food establishments. There is a deli, pizza, chinese food. Quite often my wife will pick up a pizza for dinner on her way back there.

If you decide to park on Lake Ave be very careful as there are many blind spots. There floors are not good for jumps or leaps and can hurt the kids. She has since joined a new Studio where she was welcome with opened arms. The teachers are incredible with taking the time to actually teach a new student and the other students were excited to help. His drum teacher, Ryan, is absolutely amazing. He reinforces what my kid does well and encourages him to push himself and try new genres. He advocates for him to find songs that he likes and can do at just a little bit above his current level, so every season he grows. Not only does he help my kid with the rock performance, he is incredibly knowledgeable about NYSSMA and concert band performance. Then, COVID happened. SoR did not skip a beat. Online classes were about as good as online classes could be. And as soon as they could get back in person, they developed an impressive plan that met and far exceeded all safety recommendations: distancing; masks when possible, pods when not; temperature checks; outdoor concerts; microphone sanitation...every concern I could have thought of and more.

She had her baby on the hip the entire event, which was alarming for a workshop where you can literally get hurt anywhere you turn. At one point, she had the baby in a walker and he was just walking around hitting into things and I almost tripped over him... I couldn't believe it honestly. Something could've fallen on him and it wasn't like this was a last minute event. This was planned way ahead of time where she could've found child care coverage for the day, it was no excuse. She was extremely rude to the children and parents alike, I was really taken back. I signed up beforehand on the website and when it was time to make the craft, my daughters name wasn't on the list. She shoved the list in my face and said "you didn't sign up!" I said "I know for a fact I signed up because I sat down with my daughter and I let her pick out exactly what craft she wanted". She then shoved the list back in my face and said "no you didn't, she's not on the list!" My daughter is 5, you're a business owner, it's a simple fix, what's with the attitude? My husband and I were strongly thinking about doing an event together there to make something. We would never go now after this. The crafts are extremely expensive too, not worth it.

Looking over the website I was a bit hesitant as I saw the prices. I thought..."This seems a bit pricey...I'm not sure..." But I threw caution to the wind and decided, what the heck. You pick your date that you want to come to the workshop and you pick your project as well as the design. Upon arrival, your wood pieces are there for you as well as the stencils for your chosen design. You are provided a color sheet that has the paint colors, as well as the wood stain colors. There are a ton of examples on the walls too, as well as samples of different wood staining techniques. Ethan was helping out today and I have to say - I am not sure if our experience would have been as enjoyable if not for him. He was simply AMAZING. So kind, warm, engaging and helpful. He didn't mind when I picked out 5,3492 colors for my wood tray project. If I came back here, I'd want him to be working again. Anyways, I am not going to bore you with the step by step process but the three hours allotted kinda flew by. Depending on your project and the design/colors you pick, you will see why. In my tray with the art supplies, I wanted certain supplies to be "true" to real life and used multiple colors for a single item and this of course took time. The process is fun, easy and even for those who claim "they can't draw" or "they aren't creative" I call malarky - this is a place where you will absolutely have success and have a true one of a kind creation that you have made, and that you didn't purchase from Home Goods or something of the like. Head on down here for the afternoon with a friend or significant other and you are sure to have fun and get those creative juices flowing.
