Our daughter was attending a ballet studio in Bohemia where the classes were big and the teacher was too young (a student herself I'm sure) and unable to control a class full of 6 year olds. So, we stopped going. It's too bad I didn't ask around then because my daughter missed two valuable years. That being said, I emailed the studio (address was on the Web) and I received a response within 48 hours. Svetlana was very friendly and asked that we come in and see how my daughter liked the class. We could then decide if we wanted to continue on. That was a few months ago, well into the year. I could tell instantly that this was the perfect place. Emphasis is on technique but it's not stodgy or stern. This is a serious ballet studio but warm and friendly. The graduation performance was this past week-end and it was excellent. It was not the kind of dance performance/recital that makes you curse the fact that you spent a fortune on a tacky costume, watch bad choreography and wished you had brought something to do while you wait for your kid to perform. This was a high quality performance. I'm a raving fan of Svetlana and Lumiere Ballet. Check it out.

They offer a variety of dance programs...and the year ending recital, held at the Patchogue Theater, is very well produced. The classes here tend to be smaller in size compared to the ones over at their other studio in St James. I can only guess, that is due to the greater number of dance schools in the Smithtown area. There are two class rooms, both with one directional glass, so parents can peek in and watch their children without being a distraction. The waiting area is not particularly large and can get a bit crowded, especially around the time classes end and another is about to begin. Another nicety of this location is it's proximity to several food establishments. There is a deli, pizza, chinese food. Quite often my wife will pick up a pizza for dinner on her way back there.

I expected my daughter to get the professional attention she deserves. However, the teachers worked with students that have been there for a long time. Over all the ballet techniques are not up to par. The recitals are on Memorial Day Weekend which is not cool. The parking is horrific. If you decide to park on Lake Ave be very careful as there are many blind spots. There floors are not good for jumps or leaps and can hurt the kids. She has since joined a new Studio where she was welcome with opened arms. The teachers are incredible with taking the time to actually teach a new student and the other students were excited to help. Remember it's not about the finances or politics it's about your child enjoying and learning at the same time. We found our home. Signed, Relieved to be gone !!!!!
