Now I can't say I would've chosen the workshop I did with my wife recently at this AR Workshop location (more on that in a moment), but choices aside, the experience was awesome and I'd definitely return in the future to make something else (which was the plan). You see, I actually bought a workshop for my wife and I to do as a 2-year anniversary gift. Cotton is apparently the gift type for that marriage year and so I got creative and chose the knitted pumpkin class for us both (I probably would've preferred something involving wood for myself, but it totally worked for what I needed it for). I could tell this was definitely more of a feminine-type class as I was the only guy there, but I never really felt out of place as everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Backtracking for a moment, this workshop location in Patchogue is a storefront I never noticed, just a few shops away from James Joyce. The interior has a ton of crafts and items already made all around the store to show you things that you could do at another class. A lot of local vibes too with Long Island as the theme for many crafts which was cool to see. The wall of tools and paint also showed that there are many different projects of varying difficulty. Though for this specific pumpkin class we really only needed two items: a styrofoam pumpkin and some chunky yarn. There were two long tables covered in a variety of colored yarn rolls with enough for my wife and I to vary our pumpkin colors (we were each allowed to make three). Honestly, I wasn't sure how we'd be making these pumpkins, but the woman in charge of the class (along with her daughter) explained that we'd be doing two different types. They each took charge of one of the long tables and were able to help with keeping us on pace with directions, helping to fix errors (it was nice for the woman to say almost everything is fixable), and giving us support. Once done, there was a table of flowers, feathers, ribbon, and small wood pieces to pep up your pumpkins if you choose to do so (I gave mine a little pizzaz, but kept things simple). The whole class ran about 2 hours which was definitely enough time and we could have even stayed a few minutes longer as we were not being rushed out which was nice. Overall, AR Workshop in Patchogue is definitely a fun time. Their options for crafts and projects seem vast and with a friendly and helpful staff, I'd happily return, which I told my wife she could pick out another class as a part of the anniversary gift (though something without cotton next time around!). Definitely check out AR if you're looking for something a little different, but entirely enjoyable.

Now, when you enter in, it's toys/clothes and other items for toddlers and teens, which they update every now and again which I like. When you walk into the back, where they had classes for kids to do fun activities, it's all items for babies. Which I absolutely love that they did this. I'm not sure if they still do the activities for the kids though.

HEADS UP LONG DETAILED REVIEW!!!!!…read more AMAZING PLACE/CLASS WITH AWESOME PEOPLE RUNNING IT!! Il start with a quick brief by saying I have been interested in glass blowing forever and just never really even thought to try and pick it up till now since I have my own house and the place to set up properly. Me and my brother were about to take a ride down to Corning NY to look more into the craft when we came across this studio out on the island. We reached out and the response time between Facebook and email was really impressive/fast and extremely helpful with long responses and detailed explanations... When first arriving to the class we came in the front doors and were really impressed with the layout and gallery style rooms. The creativity in the gallery rooms is out of this world from the glass art to the LI fish tank cut out and even the attention to detail of using trees to hold up the shelves. When you first arrive your in a room with necklaces, pendents, and other small items then as you round the corner you phase into a different style of glass work which is incredibly artsy and done by a lot of extremely talented people. This area is What most people are coming for I would imagine and the work put in on some if these pieces is really something that you could look at all day plus some. As we were looking the owner LIG Joe came in and introduced himself and explained some of his techniques and was a real awesome just down to earth dude... He took the time to answer whatever questions we had and explained how he came up with some of his works of art... Next we started the workshop where the artist B$ introduced himself and again was another good dude willing to answer any questions we had and take the time to explain... It was nice to see the class was small and only had 4 people in it... (me , my brother, dad, and another kid we met there)... First we went through and he explained the kilns and the tools to us and then moved back towards the class area. In this area he started by explaining the gasses and how to properly ignite and turn off the torches. He then did a quick demo of what we would be doing ourselves only a short time later... After all this we went into production and he came around to each person giving us tips and explaining to us what to do next or how to fix what was happening... The small class atmosphere made it easy for each student to get individual attention and be able to ask your own questions (he also came around and took pics with your phone so you would have them for facebook/insta/etc...)... We then wrapped up by putting our piece in the kiln for pick up the next day. The class finished with B$ answering any other questions we had and wrapping the day up... What we ended up with at the end of the boro class was a pendent which could be jewelry, fan/lamp puller, etc.. Basically a marble with a loop on it, this may sound simple until you sit down and try it yourself for the first time... I promise you will get a wayy different outlook on the glass you see in head shops, sculptures, and all other glass art forms... Even though you make a "basic" piece to start with you learn so much about the art and get a good feel at how it is done and what it takes for people to make the other pieces you see... This class is definitely worth it and I would highly recommend going into the gallery again after and it will give you a completely different outlook on the skill it took to make each piece. Class was amazing along with all the highly skilled people working at it! Definitely recommended!!! Sorry for the long review but wish I had something like this to read when I was looking into it, rather then asking questions... We will be back for more 1 on 1 and 1 on 2 classes!! The opportunities are endless and after this class there is many other classes you can take with them to expand your skill level or even rent a spot!! Even if you do not want to get into the craft but would like something fun/new and interesting to do TAKE THIS CLASS... They have top notch security, they are located in a isolated location so that part is great. They offer OUTSIDE time every day for the kids. Each room has its own backyard. They have a lot of art supplies and toys. The facilities are spotless and this place NEVER smells like poop, unlike some places i visited. The quality of care i get is like from extended family. I honestly feel that they LOVE my children. I used extra student loans in order to afford this daycare, and honestly it was worth it, my children flourished there and i could never put a price on that. *i do wish it was cheaper though, i have to pull my kids out when school is not in session because of cost*
