Studio E's owners…read moreMichelle and Stelios are very involved with the art scene on Long Island, and believe in what they do. This summer, they organized an art show that involved interpreting the artwork of children. From their students, they collected various works in several mediums. I was selected as one of the artists, and was given a child's drawing to interpret. The drawings were then hung together for a month-long exhibit at Toast in Port Jeff village. Getting to show your art at Toast is a pretty big deal, people. They put a lot of heart and hard work into organizing the show and I loved the theme and the idea behind it. It was a wonderful experience working with them and I am grateful for the exposure for my own artistic endeavors. They even took some of the pieces that weren't sold (including mine) and offered to hang it in their studio for no cost. As you may or may not know, many galleries charge an average 30% commission but they wanted us to have the experience and hopefully sell something without having to mark up the price to compensate for these commission costs. So next time you're at an art show and you're wondering why someone wants $750 for a blue square on a canvas, this is one reason why. I know they are currently expanding their studio and that they offer classes for children as well as adult classes. If I didn't live an hour away I would definitely take a few classes there. I wish them nothing but luck with their new business, they are a dedicated and talented couple!

My friend, who is an artist, introduced me to this place, and she says that CAW has a strong reputation in the art community. I have zero art background, but I have taken drawing and photography classes here. All the teachers were friendly, enthusiastic, and well-prepared. I felt like I learned a lot and that the teachers were encouraging of beginners. They have a huge variety of classes here including cool stuff I'd like to try like metal sculpture. There are both short workshops (good for artists who are already well-versed in a topic but want to pick up a new technique) and longer classes. The cost is a little pricey, but well-worth it in my opinion. They also have an exhibition space and show really nice artwork there. This past summer, my friend and I went to see a juried show there and it was very good. The Creative Arts Workshop is a fantastic place to learn art and join an artistic community. I can't recommend it highly enough.

In the Perspective Drawing of Buildings and Architecture workshop, Eric March introduced strategies, gave students a chance to experiment, and consulted individually to discuss what works for each person and how to expand skills. His presentation was clear, and his comments were gentle and specific. For me, as a non-professional with some drawing experience, the class was engaging and informative - a delightful way to spend two afternoons. Being able to see and draw things from different perspectives makes drawing more fun and satisfying. As someone who ordinarily is more interested in life than buildings, I also realized the advantage of starting with boxier shapes, knowing that I can apply the same techniques to the animate world now that I have seen how they work. I highly recommend the workshop and other opportunities to work with Eric March.

Taylor is extremely talented in the fine arts she loves to draw. While my friends were sending their kids to test prep for High School entrance exams. I was searching for the perfect Art Studio and Mentor for my daughter to build her portfolio. Once her pieces were completed she then applied to her top 3 NYC DOE Specialty High Schools. Her 1st choice High School of Art & Design, 2nd Frank Sinatra & her 3rd choice was Laguardia High School. In March! We wouldn't know if she got in until mid June. In the meantime we applied to Saint Frances Preparatory School AP Art Honors Program with the same portfolio and she got accepted! I knew she was safe for her back up High School if she wasn't accepted. I have to say finding Rob Zeller at The Teaching Studios of Art was the best thing I ever did for Taylor. He helped her focus and taught her the techniques she needed to fine tune her portfolio. For her Still Life piece throughout the entire process from the Pencil Sketch to transforming it into the most amazing oil painting. On June 8th we were going to find out if she got accepted to one of her 3 choices. My husband and I were in suspense with Taylor as we were checking to see if she got in. I was an amazing feeling seeing that she got accepted to a Specialty High School in NYC. But, she got into her first choice High School of Art & Design in Manhattan! Honestly, if it wasn't for Robert Zeller and his Art Studio in The Village of Oyster Bay, who could say more! I don't know where we would be. We signed up for the In Person Private Art Classes. She had 1 on 1 teaching and loved being their to paint. I am extremely grateful that I found The Teaching Studios and proud of all that Taylor was accomplish with Rob by her side. I can't wait for them to start working on her college portfolio for The School of Visual Arts! I know she will get in with Rob as her Mentor. Thank you.
