This is going to be a mixed review! I will say when shopping at higher end consignment stores, there is an attitude from the workers that is judgmental and unwelcoming. However, that was not the case here! They were sweet, and even gave my sister a discounted item for something that was stained. Now for the state of the shopping: the racks are so tight that you can't easily browse the racks, there are trash bags stacked in the front of the store and by the stairs. And they were still accepting donations as if they had room for them! I love the selection that they do have, but the racks are unorganized and hard to look through. Sizing on racks is barely marked but the color coordination is nice! It's rare that I come here due to this, but it's nice if you have a lot of time to dig through. Will absolutely not be coming back. Bought a dress for my daughter and they had tied up part of the back to hide a huge hole in the back - the entire back of the skirt was ripped. No one said anything. It's not that nice of a shop compared to others in the area, but this really pissed me off. The dress is unwearable and they still sold it. read more

An elderly woman behind the counter already made up her mind not to take any items from me when I approached her. She said to bring in the items I had from the car. When I did, she barely looked at the large picture I brought in and immediately said, "No!" Then she inspected the brand new 2 piece items in the bag, never worn! Just 1 set of the 6 sets I had in the bag, which she didn't bother to check. She asked if they were from Shein; I replied, "yes" so she said, "no! we can't take that!'. I showed her an almost new tote bag from Amazon. Same answer without inspecting it. Such dismissive attitude; the chilly air outside was "refreshing". No doubt if I was there to purchase something her attitude would be very different. I have been a customer there for many years and have enjoyed my purchases, including handbags which they sell upstairs! Today was a terrible experience for me... read more

I had a very disturbing experience with this consignment shop years ago and decided to give it one more chance a few months ago. Sadly, this time was far worse!!! Please don't leave your clothing with this place unless you take photos and/or obtain an itemized receipt. They are VERY dishonest!! Consigned 14 items. She sold 3. Went to pick up the remaining items and only found 1. Went to the owner to ask about the other 10 items and she said, "I don't know what to tell you". Simple explanation really... 10 items were either shoplifted, someone made an error when labeling the items or the items were sold and they kept the money. I guess they are not accustomed to people picking up their items after the allotted consigned time but rather leaving them to be donated. So, after some back and forth, I said to the owner, "Let me get this straight... are you saying that out of 14 items, 10 were shoplifted"? and she said, "Yes, that is what I am saying." Then she said, "I have been doing this for 35 years and NO ONE has ever been unhappy with my services." I answered, "so, I'm the first person ever to have a problem" and she responded straight faced, "Yes, you can go check". So, I did and hopefully you will too. read more

Don't Sell to Oz I had some nice things that I brought there to sell. I don't know exactly what happened, but I never earned any money. They were snobby and selective about what they took and I don't feel that they were honest with me about my earnings which are $0. Return to Oz has really grown on me. The first few times I went, I felt overwhelmed and claustrophobic. The clothing racks, especially upstairs, are pretty jam packed most of the time. It feels a bit chaotic. As I've gotten used to the layout, I've enjoyed my time there more. I have gotten some very good deals on housewares and baby items (for example, a breastfeeding pillow for $6). Some of it is just tossed in miscellaneous bins (especially in the baby section) so you have to look through everything carefully for hidden gems. I still don't look through their women's clothing all that often because I feel that it is priced a bit high and the two changing rooms are often full and I don't feel like waiting just to try on one or two pieces. I recently found out about the $1 clothing racks outside, so I'll definitely focus on those. From a seller's perspective, what they really need is a computer system to keep things organized. Hand written tags and binder inventory are super dated, and I am not convinced they don't lose sellers' inventory frequently. That being said, drop off is easy and so is picking up payment. You don't get much for what you sell (after they take their 60% cut) but if you go in with the attitude of "this is clutter that has no value to me anyway and would likely go to donation" then it's fine. If you are attached to your items, then you definitely need to keep your own inventory. If your items don't sell within 60 days, they keep or donate them so you sort of have to be in charge of tracking your calendar. The additional complication is, there's no easy way to find your item in the store except for by general category. I have ultimately decided it is not worth the hassle of picking up my items at the end of the selling period. Location isn't particularly convenient as it's on the corner of a busy intersection. Parking can be tricky and I always worry about my car getting hit while I'm shopping (which i have heard about happening). read more

They took 10 pieces (one of which was a London Fog rain coat in perfect condition (retail price: $80-$90)). A few months later I check back in. 5 items were sold. Guess how much they offered me...$16.80. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I should have went to a different store. I went to Uptown Cheapskate to take the clothes that they didn't want there and they took about 5 items and offered me $25!! DO NOT SELL TO RETURN OF OZ. DON'T EVEN BOTHER GOING THERE. You don't even want to know about their selling policy. You have 3-6 months for your clothes to sell, if they don't sell, they get to keep your clothes and not pay you anything. If you want, you can go in and grab your clothes BUT THEY DON'T TELL YOU WHERE YOUR CLOTHES ARE LOCATED OR WHICH CLOTHES SELL. So I have driven past this place several times and have always wanted to stop in. I am in the market for furniture and I saw that this was a consignment shop, I thought maybe they would have some. Wrong. This is mostly a clothing consignment shop. And not a very good one either. Usually consignment shops have a quality that is above and beyond Goodwill. But not this one. Call me a snob, but I thought the quality here was OK. Not what I would shop for. But I was mostly browsing the Women's clothing and shoes and I wasn't impressed. These ladies seem like they have so much fun. This is an entire house devoted to a consignment shop and there's a big front counter when you walk in for sorting through items. You can either make an appt or drop off your items for sale. Even though you can only bring in 30 items at a time at an appt, that's still about 2 bags worth of stuff and prefer to be there when they go through my stuff so I know what they're looking for. There is no item limit if you drop off. While I agree with Jen L. that Return To Oz specializes in clothing and is perfect for children's clothing, there is also the upstairs floor that has a tiny kitchen section but mostly women's clothing, shoes, and a very limited selection of men's items. I only found one sweater that I got but it was thin and soft and beautiful and that made my search all the worth while. But the reason why I love this place is because they will take all of my casual clothes, work out gear, accessories and DVDs/books. The other consignment shops specialize in other items. So for me, this is the perfect spot! read more

It is impossible to find what you are looking for in this store. The labyrinth of rooms makes you feel like you are in a maze and there are little to no signs on the rooms or racks to direct you. For example, I was looking for children's size 3T on the first floor and had to walk through four rooms to find it. Even when I got the right room, the only label was a small 1" circle sticker on the end of the rack that said "3T". It was so small I had to look for a minute or two to even spot it. Upstairs was even more confusing. The two main rooms for women's clothing are labeled "Medium/Large" and "Small". In both rooms, clothing is not organized by size. I was looking for a pair of jeans, which meant my only option was to sort through a huge circular rack to try and find a size 27. It was very difficult because the racks are so crowded and denim brands often put their labels in weird places. The shop also uses leftover hangers from stores with colored sizing markers...which means that something that's really a size 24 could be hung on a hanger that says it's a size "L". Another frustrating part of the upstairs was the shoe wall. The shop probably has 200+ pairs, but they don't label or organize them by size. It was annoying to have to pick up each shoe to look at the sizes and also disappointing because the shoes I liked were not my size. I gave up eventually--what a waste of time! My feedback for this shop: You're making it too difficult for customers to find items. Remove the mismatched size markers on the hangers. Organize all women's clothing and shoes by more specific sizes. Add more rack labels and signage around the store (large and colorful), and make it clear where the designer items are. read more

Came to Annapolis and wanted to go to some consignment shops and out of all of them this was by far the best! They have a variety of clothes for women and children. They didn't have that many men's clothes. I stocked up on tons of baby things and a couple of items for myself. They have a small collection of high end clothes as well. I stayed in here for about two hours! The children's section is downstairs and women's upstairs. Definitely check this place out if you have time. You will not regret it. read more

I find that how much I like shopping at Return to Oz is dependent on how many other consignment shops I've been to that day. If I am making the rounds, it is terrible. If I am in the area and just stop by, it seems better. The selection has more of a thrift shop feel than a consignment shop feel because they mix in cheaper brands like Old Navy. They have two rooms for women's clothing upstairs, one for small and one for medium and large. I understand things get mixed up in a store as people shop, but I always find a significant amount of size xs, s, 0, and 2 items in the medium and large room. It is discouraging to find several cute items to realize they will not fit you. The parking lot is too small, and is gravel. read more

Clearly the other reviewer did NOT have kids- Jen was it? THIS Place is AWESOME for kids clothing, and has THE best brands around, you just have to LOOK and also get there at right time, hit or miss depending upon what is brought in most recently. And I TOO am a clothing snob :) and you can find $50 Janie & Jack cords for toddlers for $5.... I got a bookshelf for kids room for $6 and just painted white, it's perfect. Annapolis moms get tons of clothes for their babies and toddlers and they usually wear these awesome brand name clothes maybe 1-2 times. I have found some of the COOLest stuff here -- and even for me - when you walk in there is a rack near counter of recent really more $$ brands, got Lilly Pulitzer skirts for $25 in size 6 perfect.\ Gotta run, kids call. This is NOT a furniture consignment shop so not really fair to rate on that -- it's primary purpose is awesome kids clothes -- UM, hence the Name "Return to Oz"..... even great books and CDs and DVDs and toddler puzzles for like $1-3. I took some clothes here last year, and was highly disappointed. I called Gigi to ask her about an issue I had with the clothes I dropped off and she totally lied to me. This place is really great for shopping. Went looking for some work clothes and came out with a Hugo Boss suit for my husband for $80 and some really nice housewares in addition to what I needed. It's not a typical shop set up; it's an old two story house with many rooms, and the parking lot outside is not an ideal layout, but if you're interested in a huge selection and good prices and you're not scared off by having to do a little digging, this place is for you. I really really wanted to like this store. Love the old house. Love the chaos of it because rooting around is half the fun. The problem with this place is that it's similar to shopping on eBay. Prices are way too high. Even low brands like White Stag, Merona, Old Navy are crazy high. Stuff like Free People is through the roof. No sliding scale based on date the item was consigned like many places. Just really high prices across the board. Bummed because the building is charming and they have a lot of stuff. This place is completely disorganized. They do not use a computer system. You must call or stop-in to check in regarding the status of your consigned items, and hope they accounted for your items correctly. I was told that after 60 days, none of my 15+ items sold. When I questioned them, knowing one item in particular had indeed sold, they magically discovered four tickets of my sold items, tucked away in a Ziploc freezer bag. The sales associate indicated there "may" be additional items that "just didn't make it to the binder." Realizing I made a donation to charity on their behalf, I let it go at this point and obtained my cash payout. There are several local consignment shops that use MyResaleWeb, which allow you to track items that have sold or are left in inventory, which gives you confidence that all of your items were accounted for. I recommend choosing one of them. In addition to the operation issues and lack of an accounting, or inventory system (outside of binders, tags, and spiral notebooks), the store smells musty, and reminds you of a thrift store. read more

I go to RTO every time I'm in Annapolis. Their quality is great, they have good prices, and the staff is helpful. They have good kid's clothes, but I really like the selection of women's clothes, shoes, purses, and jewelry. Good labels in very nice condition. Many designer labels. Does seem like they take junk. Also, they often have other stuff: kitchen, design, books, art. Always fun to look. read more

I literally purchase 99% of my children's clothing from this shop. They have quality pieces for great prices, ranging from middle of the road Old Navy items to higher end Hannah Anderson, etc., pieces. I can find run around clothes for the kids as well as unique, special occasion wear and receive a lot of compliments on how well dressed my children are. They also have a cute housewares nook upstairs where you can pick up the occasional great accent piece, and a healthy offering of clothing for medium to plus sized women (though the largest offering of clothing is for thinner women). Not a substantial jewelry selection but it's always great to look. Mainly, this is the only place you need to outfit your kids, and when they outgrow it, just bring it back and sell it. Parking can get tight - consider parking across the street at the strip mall. read more

I've been driving past this place for quite some time now. Earlier today I drove by the place and saw a pink tricycle that my daughter would love. I stopped by to check it out and check out the consignment shop. I was amazed by the size of the store which was more like a house. Originally, I thought it was a clothing consignment shop that didn't have children clothes. Wrong. They had a big selection of kids clothes and some toys. For myself, I found a very pretty red dress which I was very excited about. The only thing I thought was strange was they didn't have a computer or an electronic pos system. I was there this morning 8/13/13, and my experience was very disappointing. As I first walked in the door, I saw three women that seemed to worked there. One was in front of the counter folding or sorting clothes with her back to me, and the other two behind the counter, facing me. Even though we were only about 5 to 6 feet apart and a bell rang when I opened the door, none of them even looked up to make eye contact or say something. They kept with their conversation; one was even practicing her French with the other one. Seriously, how hard is it to say "hello" "hi" or "welcome". I got nothing! After 10 seconds I finally said hello, and then they finally acknowledge me with a very languid "hi". As a roamed to the kid's selection, I noticed that when other customers walked in to the store, the staff showed the same demeanor. How can you run a business with that attitude? Even if they just work there and not care about the business, it's called GOOD MANNERS. As far as the selection and prices for kid's clothing (which is the only thing I went for) I found the place comparable to Once Upon a Child in Crofton. But at least at Once Upon a Child the staff there make you feel welcome. I found two cute garments for my daughter, but nothing really special. I also saw a few garments that had stains on them, which is very disappointing. I found the place very disorganized, too. Finally, after we left the store and were walking to our car (needless to say never heard a "thank you" or "have a good day", or any of the like), I witnessed a little girl on a stroller falling backward down the porch steps while her mom was looking at the clothes outside (this was definitely the mom's fault I know, but hey we all make mistakes). The mother run to her daughter and tripped on the steps too scrapping her knees and elbows pretty bad. My mom and I run to them to offer our help, and some baby wipes I had in the car so the woman could wipe her bloody legs. Even though this all happened right by the front door of the store, NO ONE inside stepped out to offer their help or even ask if everyone was ok. This is the worst customer service experience I've had in a long time. I will not be going back. I usually don't feel the need to run home to write a review but this "careless" attitude towards other human beings sickens me. read more

If you are a thrifter or a bargain driven person like myself you will LOVE oz consignments. The ladies who work here are funny and engaging and I always enjoy chatting with them when I go in. They have a great selection of higher end brands at super good prices and everything from Gap to Gucci. If you aren't interested in the trend of overly priced snooty boutique consignment shops but want a place with much better quality and selection than you would find at a thrift stores, this is the place to go. I have consigned with them and never been anything less than pleased with my experience. They aren't trying to rip anybody off, they just want to sell good condition clothing at reasonable prices to the community. read more
