Even though the company's products didn't apply to my situation , Chris took the time to call me back and spent an hour talking through my situation and with his experience and knowledge helped to give suggestions to help resolve my issue. I contacted this company to evaluate my insulation in my garage and attic. After reviewing the insulation in my garage, my technician Chris, said that all I had to do was seal my firewall. I politely asked him to take a look at my attic insulation. He refused, stating that he had already found the issue. I asked him again; I had already opened the attic access and set up a ladder. He again refused. After going into the attic myself, I found that I had 2 vent fans that had become disconnected as the cause of the initial damage and my insulation needs to be upgraded. He essentially left the job undone, despite the ease of access. I will never go through this company again. read more

I submitted an online request to have this company come quote a job at my earth berm home. Chris, the owner, came out to look at what we had going on. In the end it was determined that the service of foam installation in our existing walls was not going to solve the issues we were concerned about. it was so appreciated that Chris did not try to sell us something that was not going to help us, even though he drove a long way to get to us. Chris' knowledge of buildings and the needs they have for comfort was the best we have seen and we really appreciated that. We have had many people out to give us an idea of what we can do for our rather unique situation and this was the first time someone really took the time to listen and help us come up with a plan, even though that plan would not include his company making any money. This is an update to my 1 star review from April 2024 (we'd give them 3 1/2 stars now but that's not an option). After my initial post went "live" I was contacted by the owner of the company who requested pictures of the work that I was not happy with. Thankfully (having watched enough episodes of Judge Judy) I had taken several immediately after the initial work was completed. They agreed to come out, look at the work in person, and chat with us about amending the situation. Nick and one other guy came out to look at our house and chat with us about what can be done. My husband and I reiterated our concerns about the craftsmanship and how that may reflect on the actual product along with all the other concerns we had. One thing I did not mention in my initial review was that, even though the company knew we had hardy board siding and what color it was, I still had to go get matching paint from the hardware store which is what they used to paint over the silicone caulk used around the windows. I digress... Anyway, Nick and the other guy came out to our house, removed the "salad fork" caulk, straightened a few crooked boards, and replaced the nails. This time, they had colored caulk but it was the wrong shade. Luckily, because of some other work we had done, we had two tubes of the correct color which they applied. One row of boards needed to be replaced because the dings in them were so noticeable I would grimace every time I walked up the deck stairs. Thankfully...again, we had some on hand from the aforementioned, unrelated work being done. Sadly, those boards were 7 inch while what we needed was 7 3/4 inch, and we had to wait on them being replaced. All in all Nick and the other guy did a nice job amending the situation and we are happy enough with how things look. read more

My neighbors hired RetroGreen Energy this winter. They set up their equipment on my property with no attempt to contact me for permission. After speaking with the city of Minneapolis and letting them know I wasn't comfortable with them on my property, they argued and refused to leave. In addition, my property line is littered with excess foam debris left behind. The patches on the stucco house they insulated are far from a match and it is quite unsightly. read more

I selected this company even though they had the highest bid because they claimed they could apply the insulation at a thickness and consistency to achieve at least the same insulation value of the Owens Corning pink sheet insulation on the areas against the cement block walls of the walkout basement together with filling between the 2x4s of the walkout door wall. Using the OC foam panels would have been a fraction of the price I paid them, but I wanted to have the entire area sealed consistently, so I went with RetroGreen. The main person of the insulation team seemed nice enough at first. However, when they came to me claiming to be 'done', i looked at their work and there were many areas with barely any foam coverage! Several of these areas would have had almost no R-value at all! Other areas were protruding well past the framing so it would have been impossible to properly mount Sheetrock! He became very rude when I told him I would not pay the second half until they either properly finished the walls or they had the owner ageee to have other employees come out to complete the work properly. In the end they got it mostly completed, applying new foam to many areas and shaving the areas that were protruding, after I stood there pointing out all of their misses - so I paid them just to end this mess. The most unprofessional thing was when he handed me a $1 razor blade and told me to finish trimming the protruding areas around the window!!!! In the end I used my own time at $100+ an hour to compete the work I paid them to do!! read more

First, I want to say that Jon who came out to give us the estimate was very professional, and this review is not about him. My husband and I recently bought a 1940's home with a refinished attic that has hardly any insulation in it. Jon with RetroGreen showed up on time and explained what type of insulation work he thought we needed and why. However we felt very rushed during the whole process. They wanted us to commit to a large downpayment, in person, at the time of the initial consultation in order to lock in a better price for work that wouldn't be done until they were available, which would be in an unspecified number of months. We were considering canceling our contract the next day, when my husband received a phone call from their office that our credit card had been declined (likely because it was a large amount of money from a company we had never worked with before). Again we were rushed to correct the issue ASAP, which we couldn't do as we were away from home at the time. The person on the phone got *extremely* huffy, started talking down to my husband as if he was stupid, and then hung up the phone (his words. I also watched him take the phone call). After these interactions we felt it best to cancel our contract with this company. I can't speak to the quality of their product, but their aggressive sales tactics were very uncomfortable to deal with and made us feel like we were being taken advantage of. The owner of RetroGreen then called my husband the day after I left a 2 star google review - not to apologize or try to get constructive feedback, but to gaslight my husband and make excuses for his company's policies and Ruth's behavior. In his response to my google review, he then insinuated that my husband and I could not afford his services, and has gaslighted me. Insinuating that I don't remember events correctly is...gross. If he had just apologized, I would have probably let this interaction go and moved on. However, I refuse to be treated in a disrespectful manner. read more

This is possibly the best thing that I could have done to my home! I am the owner of a early 1900's home and have been dealing with issues from drafts coming through the walls & our walls being very cold. We were delivered a nice informative presentation regarding RetroGreen Energy as a company and about the process it would entail. It has been a couple months since the install occurred and our energy bills have been cut in HALF. I was very shocked when I found out the amount of energy savings there was by updating. Last Summer 2013 we had RetroGreen Energy come out and Sprayfoam our home. In the amount of about $3,800. From what we heard and research that we did we were expecting a good product. So far this Winter 2013-2014 we have not seen any significant savings. But that is not the real problem! I am putting on a small addition and in that process opened up 3 walls that had been spray foamed. What we found was openings next to the framing between 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch where the foam shrank away. This has allowed potentially more cold air into our home! I called them and had them come out to review their work, I was expecting some type of remediation, none was provided, in fact the manager that came to the house was insistent that this was "normal" shrinkage. That is not what I paid for. I highly recommend that you find another company, one that will stand behind their product, for any sprayfoam needs you may consider. read more
