Breakfast sandwich was good, but was disappointed with the lack of bacon. This coffee shop is on the pricier side of things, so I was expecting a little more from them. Big burrito was great! You can get bacon or sausage - we did sausage. They cut it in half for us to split and it also came with a cup of salsa with just the right amount of kick. Mostly all breakfast sandwich options for food with a few baked goods in a small case. The girl at the counter was nice enough, but not super personable. Nice interior with plenty of indoor seating and an outdoor patio. Bathrooms were big and clean. Parking lot is very tight, not the easiest to get into. A simple black coffee and croissant isn't really simple at all. Retrograde coffee paired with a buttery flaky croissant took back me to walking the streets of Paris but as I looked around I was surrounded with colorful tables and friendly neighborhood vibes. Unassuming location, excellent service and coffee! Four of us ladies stopped in on a Saturday morning. Service was friendly and helpful. Our coffees were ready quickly and each was excellent - Americano, Lattes and an espresso. Bakery selection was an unexpected treat. The salted bagel was unique and toasted perfectly. I've been here a handful of times, and always appreciate chatting with the friendly cashiers and baristas. My go-to order an iced coffee, and occasionally one of their breakfast options. The Avocado Toast is served on a baguette and very tasty - and my husband likes their Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich. I have also tried and enjoyed their Shagbark Latte, which is what they're known for. If you like maple syrup, it's definitely worth ordering (I recommend it hot!) Suddenly getting up that week was a treat since we stopped by here and started our day with their amazing brew. The staff is friendly and helped us find our favorite drinks. The atmosphere is very chill and perfect for studying or visiting with friends. I highly recommend the Shagbark Latte. While the sandwich is good, there could be room for improvement. The sandwich didn't have any mayo or aoli and at times tasted a bit dry. Using fresh bacon would likely mitigate this issue if you didn't want to offer a condiment; however, the bacon used was pre-cooked microwaveable bacon. However, when pressed for a choice you may select the drip coffee or their riff on an old fashioned. Both would be safe selections, but the mouth may drop at the cost to quantity ratio. I felt really lucky to have Retrograde as my local coffee shop when I lived a couple blocks away, and it's a treat to stop in when I'm back in the neighborhood. There is quite a bit of indoor seating as well as seating on the patio outside, and (at least pre-pandemic) the vibe was energetic-but-quiet, making it a good place to get some reading or work done. I've liked the various drip coffee and espresso-based drinks I've had, and service is always friendly without being overbearing.
