This place has fallen off. Food was terrible... pretzel seemed like it was a few days old and microwaved, the cheese had an odd smell. Chicken tenders were cold and covered with salt, the 300 Burger that use to be so good, was not... again way too salty. Drinks were great, surprisingly they haven't found a way to screw those up.... So idk if this place came under new management, and it has been over three years but this was July of 2021 I was 15 and I will say I was doing wild things for my age. As a person who graduated high school and whos getting their degree in a year and a half I genuinely understand it was the people I was around that put me in that situation along with myself. That being said....I've waited awhile to say something but as a 15 year old I knew an older delinquent that worked in the kitchen they were 16 and bad news. But I had at one point lost a cell phone and I remember the owner yelling at us for going behind the bar as she should have clearly that was justified. But at the time her arm was broken and I learned she was the owner. Short lived but I understand. After the place closed was a different story though. She had given us jagermeister and Red Bull. For me and my 16 year old female friend and male friend. Honestly questionable, but all in all I had fun for sure. Good nachos!!!! read more

A male employee in a black shirt, dark hair was EXTREMELY RUDE and unnecessarily said the word 'fucking' twice in 2 separate instances to our entire group tonight. We did nothing wrong - we had a few buckets of beers and someone made the decision to put the bucket on the floor underneath the table to give us more room. Apparently, the bucket had leaked ice water on the floor and we didn't notice it. He directed his words at our group stating we had spilled something and didn't 'fucking tell him' and to 'fucking tell him before someone slips when they're bowling'. Went during a weekday right at open and that is the way to go. Almost had the whole place to ourselves. The carpet is dirty, the place smells like cigarettes and stale beer, the shoes were old and crusty and the balls dented to hell. With that being said....I had a great time. Like a previous poster, the Retro Bowl snack bar used to be the place to get the best burger and fries in town. No longer. I ordered a 300 to go yesterday, which is a double cheeseburger with fries. The price board said it was $7.12 plus tax. The actual price was $8.17 plus tax. Too much trouble to put up the right prices? They messed up my order and had to re-do it. (That was the story I got, anyway) Meanwhile, other customers behind me were getting their orders. To his credit, he guy who took my order apologized and offered me a free drink but since I was getting it to go, I declined. I asked for crispy fries. They were soggy and mushy. No condiments or napkins in the bag. This may have been just the cook that day, who acted like cooking burgers was way beyond her skill level, but I will think twice before going back. read more

Nostalgia is a funny thing. I grew up eating 300 burgers from this place - originally called McBowl; and expected to be writing a 5 star review instead of this 3 star critique. Whenever the topic of best burger would come up, I always had to offer up the 300 Burger as one of my favorites. The 300 is a double burger sandwich with cheese. the burgers are very thick and fairly juicy as if made at home. I walked away today feeling a little sad, realizing that this burger really didn't measure up to my elevated memories. The condiment bar has been removed and the snack-bar is now more of a bar - dim lighting with signature drinks appealing to a frat party mentality, if vo-tech community colleges had fraternities. Better burger than any fast food option, but no longer a destination trip across town. Sometimes you just can't go home again. read more

Went here on a double date and got everything I expected from a standard bowling alley. For the four of us to rent one lane for two rounds (took about an hour) and shoes it was $60. A few of us got 300 burgers and fries which always live up to the hype. At 7 they turn off all the normal lights and it turns into a black light zone. There's lots of colorful lights flashing everywhere and loud music which is super fun but potentially overstimulating to some. We got there around 6 when it was semi empty but by the time we left around 7:15 it was packed, so reserve if you can or get there ahead of the crowd. Definitely our go to bowling place! read more

If you want to spend an evening bowling, this is just the place to do that. They play great music and it's really cool when they turn the black lights later in the evening! It's a typical bowling alley, serving the typically bar-style food and beer + mixed drinks. The bowling equipment is of good quality and you don't find your ball getting stuck all of the time and having to get help retrieve it. Also, prices are very reasonable. read more

We walk in at 10:39pm, the hours said the place closed at 1:00am. Walk in, the guy asks why we where there. When we tell him the hours said open until 1, he replies with 'the boss said to close at 10:30 tonight'. Two and a half hours before close. Management is an absolute joke that's why the reviews suck. The worst customer service I've ever seen. The arcade area is disgusting, slimy and smells like years old cigarette smoke. The bathrooms are gross and musty. We threw my son's birthday party here and he had fun BUT they are understaffed and there was a wait in everything. I don't have a problem with that as I understand this seems to be the norm nowadays. The short-haired young lady behind the snack counter was running her butt off all night. The long-haired female was busting her rear end all night and actually ended staying past her time to go home because it was so busy. However, the short-haired, bigger young guy was so high that he was unable to form a proper sentence. There even was a question of whether he was getting high in the women's bathroom when he disappeared for quite a while when the staff was looking for him. He had an attitude problem and couldn't focus long enough to complete anything we asked him to. The manager, (possibly the owner?) was there and while all the craziness was happening, never came out to lend a hand to the employees that were actually working. When she did make an appearance, she was rude and short. I WON'T be having a party here ever again due to the kid that couldn't wait to get high until he got home and the rude owner-lady. I come here every summer with the kids I babysit. They only have 3 size seven bowling balls so the 6 year old has to use a size nine because they're always being used. There's usually only one person working the snack bar and it takes forever to get the food you order. We played one game, ordered food, and played another whole game and STILL had to wait an extra 20 minutes until our food finally came. The shoes are falling apart. The Velcro doesn't stick and their shoes are always falling off. The only reason we come here is for the family pass and the kids get free games. Other than that I wouldn't bother coming here. Plus there's a club connected to the arcade? It's just very strange to me because those two things don't really go together. read more

Why is there a club connected to the kids arcade?! The bar in the bowling alley didn't bother me b/c they also served food, drinks etc that were non alcoholic. I went here to spend time w/my family & felt like I was a night club. Just ridiculous!! The lanes/bowling alley itself would of been OK... I love the big screens playing music videos. We have been coming almost 30 years now and sorry to see how it has changed. We don't bowl anymore but always loved the burgers and fries. The restaurant has become a joke over the last 5 years. No more condiment bar ... Never know when it is goin to be open or not because no show employees. Mostly 1 person taking orders, getting drinks and cooking. Marge seems to only be interested in making money over the bar they have been pushing in recent years. Might as well just close the snack bar. read more

We went to their batting cages behind Retro Bowl and they were great. Good price and if the machine stops the guy working behind the counter will turn your machine on for a few more minutes. Great place to give a kid or an adult some confidence in their batting! Highly recommended! read more

Possibly the greatest lunch deal in recorded history. If you visit between the hours of 11AM and 2PM (while school is in session), you get a free hour of bowling with your meal. You also get 15% off of your meal between those hours. They offer your standard diner-ish/bowling alley cafe food. Plenty of booze options to choose from, including signature drinks like the Retro B*tch and 6-packs to go. The place stinks of cigs, but is smoke free until 6PM...that way you get to enjoy the scent, but it doesn't stick to your clothes. Retro Bowl's claim to fame is a burger called the "300." It's two 3/4lb patties with cheese on a bun. All other condiments have to be applied at the condiment bar. Lettuce, grilled onions, bacon, etc are available when you order for an extra charge. I actually got the "800" burger, which is 3 3/4lb patties, for a net of 2.25 lbs of meat. I doubt it was actually that big when it hit the table, but there was definitely a meat party going on in my mouth. It's not the best burger in KC, but it's not bad. The meat is seasoned well and mine was ideally cooked. They lose a point for making me apply my own condiments, but the bowling+discount lunch deal is too good to overlook. read more

Good Fresh Burger. They use fresh ground beef to make their "300" which is a 1/2 pound burger, and their "800" which is the "300" with another patty of fresh beef making it a full 3/4 pound burger. It is a no-frills burger that you put on your own fixins. I had to ask for lettuce and tomato. Yes, this bowling alley serves one awesome burger. Their famous 300 burger is a large double patty cheeseburger that will satisfy most hungry appetites. The french fries are good, I have had better. The price is under $10 per person for a burger, drink, and fries. My only complaint is a limited amount of options for your burger and no free drink refills. I didn't quite grow up in Liberty but have been a resident for most of almost 20 years now. Retro Bowl, formally McBowl, is an icon. A 300 burger was a weekend treat for the family and we'd occasionally bowl or attend a birthday party there. It's just always been there. Retro Bowl is maintained well and they're trying to advance the business. They have batting cages, an arcade, and Club 906 - a music venue. Oh, and a fairly good place to eat - not sure that I'd call it a restaurant but we used to go there just to eat, so... All this sounds like a good idea but unfortunately they don't do any of it exceptionally well. Maybe I don't know how to bowl. And when I say that, I mean maybe I don't know how to have an amazing time bowling. My experiences have always been moderate fun but shocked at the price. We recently had a birthday party for a 6 year old and 10 friends. Retro Bowl provided the bowling for 10 kids on two lanes, a couple pitchers of soda, disposable plates and forks and it cost close to $200. So - fun. No complaints. Just ok. read more

This place is always packed! I can't seem to find a time when it's easy to get a lane, but they have a good beer selection and the snack bar actually has one of the best burgers in Liberty, so there are plenty of ways to kill time while waiting for a lane. They have great drink specials most weeknights after 8pm along with cheap bowls many evening (Tuesday is ladies night!). The staff is always helpful. I took my family there for New Years Eve to bowl from 9pm-1am. I called twice asking what was included for the $35 each we were to pay. I was told by Robert that all the food & drink was included. NOT the case AFTER they got the $ then I was told it was only bowling! Plus no lanes were turned on until 9:20pm! The floors were sticky, not waxed totally unprofessional. Of course no refund of any kind was given when asked for. Total red neck place. Will never be back!!! read more

We have been here several times and it is fine when it comes to bowling allies, however our last experience left much to be desired. Apparently even though their website states that they have open play on Sundays until 5 PM what it really means is they have open play until 4 PM and if you show up at 4:15 you can't bowl because they have to oil the lanes for league play. Trying to explain such things to a disappointed three and six year old can be difficult at best. So, maybe they should change there information to reflect reality. They could have at least apologized and offered a free game on another day, that would have made it a little better. Alas, that did not happen and we wont be going back. read more

Okay, I am not one to do this but this seems necessary to me. Last night, I went out with some friends. They decided to go to Retro Bowl in Liberty, MO. Well, I hate bowling, so I was just going to go have a drink , since I am 21, and watch them play. Well, I went up to the bar and the bartender asked for my ID. I gave it to him and he said "Who's ID is this?" I responded with me, and gave him my college ID to prove that it was me. He stared at me and then aggressively gave me my IDs back. I turned to my friends like with my eyes saying what is going in, why is he so angry... When I turned around he had one drink in front of me. So I looked at him and waited for him to be serving other people. The deal was 2 for 1. Usually when I go to a place with 2 for 1 drinks, I get two drinks. So I was confused. After like 6 minutes of waiting, he came over with an attitude saying, "Do you need something else?" I was like "Oh yeah, isn't it 2 for 1?" and He goes "Yeah, if you were old enough to drink you would know that I put two shots in your drink." I responded with, "I am sorry, I didn't know I am just used to getting two actual drinks." Then he proceeds to get angry and start cussing at me saying how I didn't explain to him that I wanted two drinks... I just kept apologizing because I didn't know!! Then I finally started to get angry because this grown man is leaning over the bar dropping the "f-word" every two seconds at me, a girl who's small as can be. I stepped up and was like, " I have been nothing but nice. This is the worst customer service I have ever had in my life." He proceeds to say "I don't give a @^%# about your opinion." I was so confused because I work in customer service and treating your guests with the upmost respect is what is most important in a business. Apparently not at Retro Bowl. Then when I was not having any of his attitude, he took my drink and threw it and said "you can get the &$!? out of my building". I look at him in shock and ask for my money back. So I am like shaking with anger at this point. I have never been talked to like that, not only as a girl, but as a person. I went over to the desk and asked to speak to the manager because I wanted them to know how rude their bartender was. When I asked to speak to the manager, I talked to one. She went over and got another manager. Well I think she was the owner. I tried explaining her the story and she goes "I watched the whole thing". So I am standing there like what is going on, like how do you let someone treat a paying customer like that. She then responds with "You don't understand, we get a lot of fakes in here." I go, "Well this isn't a fake, I am 21, and even if I wasn't 21, the way he treated me is NOT okay." She goes "Yeah, well he's a good bartender and he's rude to everyone, even us." I was like "You guys seriously need to figure out your customer service because I can guarantee that you will not be getting my money." She responds with "I am sorry that happened, do you want another drink?" LOL no. As I was leaving, one of the workers came up to me and said that he is always rude and they can't do anything about it because he is dating the owner. This is where I proceeded to walk out. I have never in my life been cussed out by a grown man for no reason. If you ask my family, they know I am literally obnoxiously nice to people who work in customer service, because I know how it is! I would never treat someone like that, no matter what the situation. I just wanted to let you all know that Retro Bowl obviously doesn't care about how they treat their guests, and you should go to Gladstone Bowl instead. End of rant. read more
