My wife and I recently had the pleasure of working with Mike at Restorations Unlimited, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We brought him a very special piece--an old chair that belonged to my wife's grandmother, who lived well into her 90s. This chair has been in our family for decades and holds deep sentimental value. However, for the past 30 years, it sat mostly hidden in our bedroom under a blanket or shawl, thanks to its outdated and frankly unattractive gold/yellow fabric. When we recently moved out of our home of 25 years, I told my wife that if the chair was going to come with us, it needed to be restored to its former glory and given the place of honor it deserved. That's when we found Mike--and we are so glad we did. Mike did an absolutely incredible job reupholstering and restoring the chair. The transformation is stunning, and my wife was genuinely moved to see the piece she loves so much brought back to life. It's now proudly displayed on our main floor where it belongs. There was an office chair that belonged to my wife at the time, which needed new fabric. The chair was about 20 years old and mechanically, was in good shape. I recall we paid around $600.00 for it back in 1996. Recently, my son and I took the chair to Restorations Unlimited in Sterling, selected the fabric, and worked out an arrangement to have it reupholstered. They called to let us know it was ready and what we observed, needed a bit more work. This was not an easy job. It was not known by Restorations Unlimited that though the chair belonged to my wife at the time, the mother of our son, that she had passed a few years back and the restoration was so that our son could have his mothers office chair for when he needs it. He turned 14 this year. Without any hesitiation, the chair was reworked and is beautiful. There was a genuine, self rewarding goal for Restoration Unlimited, to do the job correctly, regardless of the history......and that's the type of service you look for in companies these days. I have never posted a Yelp review in my life, but the work that Restorations Unlimited did for me has changed that. They restored an antique radio from the 1930s that I found in a consignment shop. It was in extremely rough shape, but I had a feeling that under all of that purplish stain there was probably a beautiful radio, which I wanted to give to my wife as a gift. What they delivered to me was unrecognizable from what I had given them. Mike stripped it down to all the natural woodwork, fixed the veneer perfectly, replaced the cloth speaker fabric with new fabric that resembled patterns from the 1930s, and had the radio itself -- the vacuum tubes and wiring -- redone not only so that it works safely and perfectly, but also so that an iPhone or other device can be plugged in and used on the system. It is easily the most beautiful piece of furniture in our house. It looks as if it came off a showroom floor in 1939 -- it's restored to an absolutely pristine condition. I really can't recommend them more highly, and I am already planning other furniture items to bring there as well. read more

I had a table, which was one of my favorite pieces in my house. Unfortunately the finish of the table was damaged using a harsh cleaning product. I received a recommendation to A man from the company that I bought the table from. The table was ruined because the man didn't know the chemicals to use, it wasn't even close to perfect. The finishing was splotchy and not smooth. After three days I realized my mistake and I reached out to Restorations Unlimited Inc. because of the good reviews they received. They told me that they were able to fix it which undoubtedly made me really happy. After two days they told me the table was ready and when I reached the store I was happy to see that the table was back to its original beauty. This company is very professional and can fix your valuable furniture . Mike did a great job keeping me posted with the progress of the table. He even waited for the delivery pickup guy to make sure the table was loaded safely. If there was an option to give this company more than five stars I would do so! read more

Restorations Unlimited, Inc. did sloppy and amateurish work. Examples of their incompetence include sanding the antique mahogany veneer off of one part. As the owner of Restorations Unlimited explained, many of the people who worked for him decades ago when he did work for the White House and State Department have left. The work that he did for us had to be redone by another company more skilled and knowledgeable. He did not understand the definition of patina and recommended stripping our antique. He could not distinguish antique wood trim from putty. Mr. Shotwell was belligerent and bullying. When there was a disagreement, he refused to resolve the matter with us and immediately referred us to the lawyers he keeps on retainer. Working with Restorations Unlimited was a very expensive and distressing mistake. read more

Restorations Unlimited's workmanship was shoddy and woefully inadequate for our heirloom antiques. We were forced to find a second company to reverse the damage that Restorations Unlimited did to our furniture. We had sent the owner of Restorations Unlimited detailed photos of our furniture before we delivered it to him, and the estimate range that he gave over the phone more than doubled after we delivered the furniture to him. When we got into a dispute with the owner of Restorations Unlimited, he made no effort resolve the matter amicably and referred us to his lawyer. He has an explosive temper. I believe that the owner of Restorations Unlimited is the only merchant I've ever dealt with who has yelled at me. Bad work, bad attitude, and bad treatment of a customer = a horrible experience. read more

WOW ! I cant say enough about this place. They restored my grandma's furniture for me to just how it was when I was a little boy. The owner Bill showed me around his shop. He has done work for several presidents and celebrities ....even Ethel Kennedy. It was just a great experience the first time I used there services that I often take new pieces that I get from yard sales and they turn them into GOLD. They restore Stuff for the SMITHSONIAN for goodness sake. When it comes to furniture repair and restoration this family owned business is the greatest. I thought It was so cool how the owner had such cool antiques to show you. They have been around Since 1973 doing this stuff. I highly Recommend them. read more

Restorations Unlimited is the BEST around. I was in desperate need to refinish my kitchen table after the disaster the first guy did to it. Restorations Unlimited was able to take the table right away, assured me they could fix the mess it was in, match my new chair color and it would look like new. I also needed it in 2 weeks. To our great pleasure we received the restored cherry night stands in impeccable and renewed stature. In addition they replaced the glass of a cherished china cabinet. We turned over a kitchen table and four chairs to Restorations Unlimited. The table had a nasty wax build up with gouges and magic marker from many years of school projects.
