First of all, Bob McCann, the owner/proprietor is legitimately the nicest, most charming, and…read moreenthusiastic person ever. He loves what he does, and he enjoys talking about and showing off his numerous projects. Check out the book in his shop that shows the kind of work that he's done. This man is living the dream - he's doing what he loves, with incredible attention to detail. He's not doing it for massive profits, but because he really, really loves his work. And though he's an amazing restorer, he is most enthusiastic about repurposing older pieces to fit your current lifestyle. Ask him about his pump organ projects - something that was basically broken down and unusable was repurposed into a desk with hidden cubbies and secret panels like something out of that National Treasure movie. Which led me to basically dream planning having one of this pump organs be redesigned into a goth themed vanity of my dreams. Never mind that I live in a studio. And I was SHOCKED at how low the starting price for a project like that was - seriously, he is undercharging for the kind of work he does. I am seriously considering getting rid of my couch and tv cabinet just to make room for his custom vanity with secret cubbies and hidden drawers and expandable table tops. But if you're not ready for that and are looking for someone to fix/restore/recane/refinish cherished family pieces or even fix up that flea market find, Mr. McCann is your guy. He's a freaking treasure and he's absolutely worth the drive out to visit for a consult (or even just a chat )

I held onto his info and reached out to him to have him restore a 55 year old mid century one piece sofa sectional. It was my Dad's bachelor sofa. 10ft long. Over the years my folks had it reupholstered 3xs. When i inherited I had it done boldly in red Naugahyde. That was 21 years ago. Iron Gate Antiques just reupholstered in recycled leather and they added a lil height lift to it because she was a low rider. It's beautiful. The entire gang at Iron Gate made this project so much fun to do and I'm so pleased with the work they did abs the outcome

Not too crowded which I liked as it can get pretty tight since there's many books and many shelves. Service was fine although I didn't really talk to many people while there (was more preoccupied with finding the books and checking them out). I'd say this place has great value as the books i got (3) were charged a total of just under $5. I can see why the staff put up flyers stating to be mindful with how many books the customers get as they're priced pretty low, allowing you to collect a decent amount. I'll definitely be back to check this place out again :)

The parking situation in Georgetown is ridiculous already on the weekends, and with a popular flea market to add to that? Chaos, people...chaos. This market is open Sundays year round, (unless weather prevents it) and there is ample free parking at 2100 Clarendon. And more space allows for more vendors, and ergo-- more stuff sold means more stuff to choose from. So whether you are looking for a new place to eat off of (plenty of dining or kitchen tables here) or sit on (tons of chairs) or light to read by (funky old lamps with vintage shades)..this is a great spot to look.
