I have been wanting to go on the Barbara Lee for YEARS and we finally did it! I decided I wanted to celebrate my birthday during their Italian Night with a wine pairing. Our party ended up being 20 of us and we were able to share a unique link for purchasing tickets so our party was all linked together as one party. When we first boarded, there really wasn't any direction as to what to do or what we could do so we just sat down at our table and waited for someone. We weren't sure if we could or should go to the bar to order drinks or if we could walk around before dinner. It took a while (10+ minutes) for anyone to approach our table.) Once someone approached our table we ordered drinks and then walked around the boat. We went to the top deck to take some photos and watch the sunset before dinner started. Once dinner started we were able to go the buffet as munch as we wished. Since it was Italian night they had all Italian dishes, none of the dishes really stood out but nothing was bad. It was good, but not like wow! While eating they started pouring our wine samples. We got two red and two white samples and a sommelier talked us through each sample. After the first two samples they gave us a break to walk around, go to the bathroom, etc. I would have preferred a shorter break in the middle of dinner and more time in the beginning so that we could spend more time on the deck while the sun set. My newly created memory is so dear to me now. Just starting from the entry of the shop to pick up tickets. The staff was so bubbly with smiles and welcoming energy to assist you once you came in. Then after receiving our tickets we got to walk around a bit to enjoy the breeze. Now 15 minutes before our sail time they started guiding everyone to their designated tables. Once we were seated we were informed of all our important safety information while aboard and locations of the restrooms. Then our server came over to take our drinks. Our table was filled with charcuterie boards with fruit and cheese with sweet tea, watermelon tea, and water available within arms reach. We had a live performance throughout the interior time. They even sung requested songs. I enjoyed watching all of the other married couples get up and dance. My husband even got me to get a dance floor for one of the songs. Lol I was so nervous but I really enjoyed it. Once the food started rolling in we started with a house salad and bread. Then we got up and walked around the ship. We took photos and watched the sunset. It was so peaceful with amazing songs playing softly in the background. Once they announced dinner was being served we headed down to our table. Now about my Savory Herb Roasted Half Chicken with a White Wine Supreme Chicken Sauce.I chef's kiss for sure. I picked mashed potatoes and corn for my sides. Anyone who knows me know I love me some corn. Lol the chicken was so juicy all the way through. Flavor was perfect from the white meat to the dark meat parts. I was so stuffed you could probably roll me off the ship afterwards. Lol I enjoyed being able to try two virgin mocktails with a carrot cake that surprised me. The dessert was so tasty and fluffy. My wife and I went there for an early anniversary dinner cruise. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the views were amazing. I had the half chicken and it was fresh and almost fell off the bone. The garlic mashed potatoes, and the Brussel sprouts. They were fresh and delicious. The fruit and cheese plate were amazing. Our cruise was for a group. The entertainment was mediocre at best. The speaker system made it hard to understand what was being said. As the entertainer's got louder the guest got even louder. Oh, well. Service was ok. Could have had a couple more servers working. The salad was cold and fresh. Now to the short falls for the meals. The fish dishes were very over cooked and the sides were cool to the touch and appeared to have been cooked early in the day. The pasta dishes were over cooked, rubbery and cold. One guest ordered a ceaser salad with salmon. Chicken was delivered on the salad. It's a shame all this had to happen to a group paying so much money per head. I addressed the food situation with a server and a manager. Learned a few reasons why the food on this ship was cold and very over cooked. The entries were cooked on land hours before the cruise causing very unhappy guests. We were also told that the oven was not working properly. We were told that the oven worked on 400* and that why the fish was over cooked. That's not an accurate answer. Restaurants always cooked with high heat. The food is taken out when it is at temperature. I hope time is taken to discuss this experience with the meal service for this cruise and group. It was stated that people cruise for the show not the food. Then don't offer an extravagant menu served as substandard meal. Wishing them the best. Have some work to improve the culinary experience. The Barbara Lee is a beautiful vessel, and the captain was super nice. The concept of having an à la carte menu and being waited on and doing the game show it's such a wonderful concept. Unfortunately, this river ship company falls short on delivering quality service and food for the price. For $9.99 we ordered a fruit and cheese plate that was really worth a dollar. The service was nonexistent. We had to search for staff to place our food and drink order. The bar was so unorganized it took a half an hour to order a drink. I watched them pour a shot into the drink and it was a half a shot at best so for $12 we paid for nothing but elaborate fruit juice. The game show was fun, however, it was made fun 100% by the participants that were on the ship. Overall, I love the concept, and I wish that the experience was much better than it was for us. At the end of the night when the ship docked we were waiting around, trying to find somebody to pay for our food order and it was near about impossible with mass chaos. read more

I booked a lunch cruise for 6 people on The Barbara Lee. Apparently I booked for Wednesday and thought I booked Thursday. I had no idea until it was Wednesday- and the cruise company called me to see if we were ok!!! I apologized and said I must've made a mistake in my booking- that we were all set to embark on Thursday! The lady on the phone didn't even flinch- she just said ok we will see you Thursday! She eagerly moved my reservation and did not charge me any fees or penalties for my no show! I checked my email and sure enough, I was wrong about the date. I had booked Wednesday! I was shocked that they were so accommodating and h gave me no trouble at all to switch my cruise. Wow!!! We parked in their lot on the marina (lots of parking!!!) and I went inside to check us in. That nice lady was there at the counter! I again apologized and thanked her for being so generous. We boarded on time, 10:30, and were led to our table. The lunch cruise was scheduled for a comedy theater about a wedding that had many ups and downs. The tables were adorned with Christmas themed colors and decor. Our server was around to get our drink order. They have a full bar and a menu with cocktails and seasonal offerings. I had the coffee and it was spectacular- flavorful and hot! They also came around with refills often. We started with some yeast rolls that were topped with cinnamon sugar syrup and toasted pecans. Pretty good! Not quite cinnamon rolls, they were yeasty, but still good! The table had water, sweet tea and unsweetened tea in carafes for us. These carafes were refilled often. The lunch cruise is a three/four course meal. The bread, then a salad, your entree, and dessert. The dessert is carrot cake, but you can pay more to upgrade to Reese's peanut butter pie, flourless chocolate cake or banana foster cheesecake. The salad is garden salad served with Italian and/or ranch. It was good. Family style. For the entree, there are so many options. There are two salmon dishes, a half chicken, beef short rib over pasta, entree sized salads with choice of protein, a couple vegetarian options etc. The menu changes but see my picture for December menu. I had the half chicken. It was a little salty due to the seasoning but it was fantastic. Huge portion. Mom had the same dish as well. Each entree comes with one or two sides. I had the garlic mashed and the Brussels. The Brussels are a little over done- kinda mushy, but some people like them that way. The salmon Milano could use a different sauce - our guests wanted real pesto, not sun-dried tomato almond butter "pesto" - and while the menu is clear to me, they did not understand what they were ordering. The theater troupe was energetic and engaging. The show was a little over the top but also funny. They did a good job getting the crowd to participate. We danced with the wedding party. Another customer was part of the wedding ceremony. And the ladies all got up to catch the bride bouquet toss. All in all it was good, but also very loud and a little wild. It was a bit difficult to interact with my table guests outside of the theater break times. The coursed meal was well timed. Announcements were made regarding the arrival of food etc. Surprisingly, the bartender even came around to help bus tables and get drink orders so folks did not have to leave their tables. When customers were outside or on the top deck, announcements were made that food had been served etc. Leaving the cabin and going to the top floor was a good way to escape the craziness of the theater troupe. Overall, the customer service from the company and the servers were fantastic. The food was good (mine was great!). I would say the tour along the river is quite boring- it's St. John's and lake Monroe- not much to see - but the entertainment on the boat was what it was about that day. Keep in mind they do private parties and they have a full calendar of events to include a high tea, Christmas themed events, bingo, and even drag queen brunch. You can see the full calendar online and the prices will vary. The boat was well kept. They have bathrooms which are clean. It is not accessible as it is a boat and there are many areas where you have to step over to get in or out. We had a great time as a family, enjoying each other's company and the show. The wedding theater is just about finished and they should have a new act coming soon. I would return for a cruise- but next time something more chill like a dinner cruise with light music or a high tea with the ladies. I came across this cruise line when looking for fun Halloween things to do and saw this witches-themed high tea cruise and was instantly excited. The booking process was super easy and they even had a spot for any dietary restrictions. They begin boarding 30 minutes before setting sail and you board based on your ticket number - just like a cruise. The place was decorated so cute with tea lights along the stairways, cobwebs and hanging bats, the ambiance was adorable. My mom and I were seated on the first level toward the back of the ship by the paddlewheels and boy was I glad it wasn't in the dead of summer as there was no air running there. There was air toward the front of the ship and on the top level but just not at that part. Luckily one of the crew members, Dane, was kind enough to bring us some hand fans he had. Almost everyone on board was dressed up and when you are seated you already have scones on the table and you're asked what choice of tea you'd like. The cruise is an hour and a half long and I think we got the tiered tray of sandwiches and desserts at about an hour in. One thing I didn't like is that we didn't know what anything was. We knew the sandwiches because that was noted on the card, but we didn't know the flavor of scones or any of the desserts and the menu just said assorted. When I've gone to other tea events you're usually told what's what. I also ordered a cocktail that they decorated for the occasion. Another thing that was an oops on our part was we thought the cauldron filled with frosting was edible but an attempt to bite in what I thought was a chocolate coated Truffle revealed it was actually a plastic cauldron stuffed with frosting. The food itself was okay, nothing really flavorful or to wrote home about. The cruise was also pretty, but I assumed there would be some speaking about what we were going by and the sights every once in a while. All on all it was fun, great atmosphere friendly staff, but I wouldn't do it again. You get unlimited tea and sandwiches but I don't think you have enough time to get a lot more, I didn't know the tea was actually unlimited until near the end. The unlimited sandwiches are marked. Oh, we also notated in the reservation that I was a vegetarian but I guess they brought us a tray from a different table, when we had asked which of the sandwiches were the veggie ones so I didn't eat the chicken or shrimp, they said oh I didn't see the note about the vegetarian amd they brought back a salad. Not sure why the salad has become the dish of the vegetarian but I was good with the cucumber sandwiches and the egg salad. I'm not sure if they have a more flavorful menu for their other dinners, I just wouldn't do their tea event again read more

On 4/15/26 about 12 of us took this dinner cruise. The cost was $40 each. It was the worst dinner cruise experience of my life. The dinner was to be an italian buffet. By the time they called our table to go to the buffet there were only 3 of the 12 items still available and they were pretty picked over. It was poorly run as some of the people from the upper deck had had seconds before our table was even called. While the server apologized for the lack of food there was nothing she could do about it. I would definitely NOT recommend this dinner cruise. read more

Went for a friends birthday. It was an experience, one and done kind of thing. The staff did work hard I appreciated that. We saw zero wildlife. The singer was good but it was almost like I was at a place listening to karaoke. Never replenished our drinks, waitress kept telling us how she was sneaking eating appetizers which was concerning. She touched every single plate not on the edges but in the middle of the plates while handing them out. There was a shortage in the kitchen the day we went however, A-4 table was served very last and we ate at the port as they were docking and people were leaving. We felt very rushed to eat our meal. The celebration package wasn't really worth it. Two drinks and dollar tree bouquet balloons. Our only drinks we ordered sat at the bar for apx 30min. (My husband watched them make two and when the other two were ready they were served to us) I wouldn't recommend. I would recommend exploring the town it's in. It's actually quite cute. read more

Arrive and check in at ticket booth. We were welcomed with smiling faces with excitement in their voices and very helpful to give us lay of the land before embarking. Had small snacks and drinks to purchases while you wait. Brand new bathrooms. Lots of new areas with shades to sit and wait until you get on cruise. We walked to the Bay Area and watched the boats and pelicans which also had cover pavilions and bench's to relax. We embarked right on time, very smooth and easy transition. We were greeted with a welcome aboard. When we entered inside the cruise very lively, colorful and relaxing feeling. They guided us to our table that was assigned when booking. If you want a certain table you have to call and book. We loved our table middle upper deck of the main dinning area. We could see the entertainment, paddle wheels and the scenery. They also had a tv to see entertainment closer and the history of the ship, environment and animals on the river. "D" was amazing waiter he was funny, attentive. There were also speakers all Over the cruise ship so if you were on the upper deck you would be able hear when salad was being served to go back To your seat. The timing of each course was perfect so it gave you time to go enjoy the outdoor scenery. Then the main entre was served. I order chicken Marsala very tasting chicken was extremely tender and moist and the flavor was spot on. I thought it was going to be more of a looser sauce but I was fine with their spin on it. Very impressed on the amount of food and the quality of the food. They thought of everything. Everything is geared toward the cruiser. The singer voice was beautiful and all her songs were perfect,fun and upbeat. They even had a dance floor to kick it up. The extra cost was alcohol drinks and tips for your waiter and singer. Which I was happy to oblige. The decor was colorful and everything was in great working condition and the bathroom was pretty&clean. The river ride was calm with beautiful scenery. The trip down the St. John's river was very pretty. But I have to say that the food and the service left a lot to be desired. I don't think I've ever had such bad food. It was an Italian buffet, but none of the food had any flavor in the spaghetti was like mush. The waiter had to ask us our drinks about five times and couldn't get it right. The amount of money we paid I was extremely disappointed. We have gone on the river ship in Daytona Beach and had excellent experience every time this although it was more expensive was horrible. After discovering the riverboat on Instagram, I booked tickets for a lunch cruise on a Saturday with my Mom. There was plenty of parking by the marina, checking in was easy, and boarding was a breeze. We were happy that we got sat at a table, just the 2 of us. We were seated on the upper floor right by the window. We had the best views from our seats! The lunch cruise was 3 hours long, and everything was timed out perfectly. The table already had water, sweet tea, and unsweetened tea provided. Alcohol drinks were available to order at the bar for an additional fee. The table also already had a veggie/fruit plate for snacking. The sticky buns were AMAZING. I ordered the chicken with a fruit salsa on top with rice and string beans. The chicken breast was very large and cooked perfectly. Then the red velvet cake for dessert was the best sweet treat. They said a bakery specially makes it for the boat daily, and you can tell it was freshly made. There was a period of time when you could walk around the boat and take in the sights. There was information provided about the waterway and nature. The bathrooms were clean. The service was spot on. The entertainment was very enjoyable. I cannot be more obsessed with this boat!!! I'm a coastal Florida born and raised girl, so I cannot get enough of boat trips, certainly not when food and drinks are involved. The St. Johns Rivership Company and their paddle boat, the Barbara Lee, is a must-do experience in Central Florida. First, it is a beautiful boat, with multiple decks for wildlife and plant life viewing along the river. No matter what seat you have in the dining area, you are comfortable with a beautiful view of Florida's natural bounty. It is truly a natural Florida experience. On top of the pleasurable tour you will be having, they have themed sails that include various forms of entertainment. Our trip's entertainment was a music performer: a man and his guitar (and backup tracks). I was VERY impressed by this performer. He sang all my favorite oldies tunes and extremely well at that. This ain't your local Sanford bar cover tune wannabe! I don't even want to limit it to that, really. I've suffered through countless "any live music will do" experiences, and I assure you the one I had was not that! The service was also impeccable. Not only did our server take tremendous care of us, the other servers also pitched in and made sure we were attended to. It was clearly a team effort on board and while that should be the case in any team dining experience, I think we all know it is not. The management here is clearly working with their team to ensure a seamless customer experience. This is a charming and worthwhile experience if you want to take visiting friends or relatives to something "uniquely Florida." I haven't tried their other experiences--which include bingo, trivia, special DJs, and more--but I would confidently book ANY of them. A cute little experience I did as a date day with my husband. The staff is very nice and so was my server (Wacky Jackie she told me). I was actually pleasantly surprised by the food. It was pretty good but they did not cook my steak the way I asked. I ended up just keeping it because I don't like wasting food. We ended up doing a music Bingo and it was pretty fun. The prizes aren't much but it's more for the entertainment and enjoyment on the boat. The scenery is beautiful and it's a great way to see some wild parts of Florida if you are ever out and about in this part of Seminole county. read more

New Years eve dinner cruise. Won't go back!! It was suppose to be a 3-1/2 paddle cruise. Leave at 4, eat dinner around 5:30.They were pulling into the dock at 6:45 when I received my dinner. Half way through my dinner they give me my bar bill. Then they proceed to make all of us, toast to New Years eve. We were suppose to have desert. Not enough time so they put our desert in a to-go container and whisked us off the paddle boat. A 3-1/2 hour tour would have put us back at 7:30, so back 30 minutes early. Our leader had not much to say, except sorry. Had we had our normal bus leader, she would have raised hell!! read more

Took the 3 hour lunch cruise today with my sister in law. We got to sit on the second level, away from the live entertainment but awesome view from our window seats at the table. The price of the ticket includes a 4 course meal that is made to order over the course of the ride. On the table is complimentary water and both sweet and unsweetened iced tea, they also have Coke products along with a full bar. We had finger foods of veggies and fruit with dip and sweet bread to start. Then a salad course, mixed greens and other veggies with dressing on the side along with bread and rolls. For lunch I had the chicken Marsala, mashed and Brussels sprouts, my sister enjoyed the prime rib with mashed and corn. For dessert was coffee and carrot cake. Natalie was our server and she was attentive and personable. Made it that much more enjoyable. We had both live entertainment and guided nature narrated tour. Christine has a beautiful voice and knows an array of different songs. She kept us well entertained. The breeze and the view from the top was beautiful. The spray from the paddle wheel was cooling. My husband and I along with four other friends decided to go to Sanford, Florida and partake in the St. John River ship Company, New Year's Eve boat ride. first of all I want to say that the weather was less than enjoyable. It was very cold and I was wearing a very big and heavy coat. I was hoping that the ship would not be chilly but I also anticipated dancing, and that would have warmed me up lol anyway we were greeted by staff and we seated ourselves on er the information on the ticket. Not hard to figure out. Once onboard I was told we were getting a charcuterie board to share, but it turned out, We had a three course treat, not a meal. The first course was fruit and cheese. The second course was food that I don't even remember half of it but for me none of it was good and the third course was dessert, which was odd but somewhat pleasurable the thing that I really feel was the worst of this night was the band the band played nothing but rock, music, rock, rock and more rock and it was super loud and no I did not dance because I don't dance to rock music and I really feel like the majority of the people that were in attendance, probably felt the same way. I mean I was trying to have fun with it, but I didn't see a lot of people even clapping along with the music or singing and we sat on the main deck and there was no space on the dance floor due to the band. I feel like they dropped the bomb on having a music group for a wide range of people. I would not recommend this to anybody. My wife and I have lived in Sanford for 3 years now and just today took a luncheon cruise on the RiverShip. From A-Z and beyond, it was a fantastic experience. I traveled with my daughter-in-law and grandson from Oviedo to cash in a Christmas present from my three daughters. I used the occasion to do a belated 84th birthday celebration in my persona as "Wild Bill." We met some nice people from Delaware, where we used to live part-time as snowbirds. The food was good, the entertainment was upbeat, and the cruise director was informative. Seeing Lake Monroe and the St. John's River this way was fascinating and beautiful. My boyfriend and I did the lunch cruise on a beautiful and hot Sunday. It's an amazing experience. There was great live music, the director did a great job with entertainment- having info sessions when the musicians took their breaks. The service was fantastic, from the servers to the bartenders. You can tell the decor and furniture are aged but it adds a great charm to the entire atmosphere and makes for a unique experience. I do have to say the food was terrible. My boyfriend had the lemon butter salmon and I had the tropical chicken. The quality of dishes is screaming to be revisited. I did not expect a perfect meal given that its a big ship with a lot of people to feed in a tight timeframe but it always sucks when you think to yourself you could have made a better meal in 20 minutes for a fraction of the cost. I wish I would have taken pictures, but I think the ones that have already been posted speak for themselves. I would not come back for a lunch or dinner cruise where the food is included in the ticket you get but I would totally come back for a karaoke event or something like that and grab food at one of the local restaurants. read more

I have been on the Barbara Lee about six times over several years and all the previous times I would have given it 5 stars. However, with the new ownership the quality of the tour has certainly changed. The salmon is of a very low quality, before it was amazing. A minor complaint is that the salads are much smaller now. But none of this compared to the person who emceed on the cruise. Where the cruise used to be about the history of the St. Johns with some fascinating stories told by educated speakers who didn't speak the entire time of the cruise. The new emcee yacked during the entire cruise where she started with a rant telling all the people who had birthdays onboard which seemed like forever. Then she mentioned all the passengers who had anniversaries. Instead of enjoying the view and solitude she ranted the remainder of the cruise about New Years Resolutions and what they should be. When she wasn't talking about birthdays, anniversaries, or resolutions she yakked on about whatever entered her mind. We found her annoying and we were completely bored and irritated by her. The tour is now more of a big, loud pep rally where the emcee talks very loudly about very inane subject matter which would be more suitable for a group of very young children, not adults. The food is not what it used to be. We will not be going back. read more

Just came back from the inaugural ecotour and it was wonderful! We saw plenty of gators and birds (both wading and raptors) and there was even a manatee seen (it's April!) The BEST part was the tour guide John...outstanding. read more

I've never been to this event let alone Sanford. I hope I get to revisit this town. Dinner was a multi course meal. The food was good, the service excellent and the show was hysterical! Jamie was our server and never skipped a beat. The team is a well oiled machine. Being able to go on deck and just take in and enjoy the peaceful water and end of the day was lovely.
