First, you guys REALLY need to clean up the area at the back of the place...we park in the county lot after 6 when it's legal and walking in that way is, frankly, gross. 2 star worthy Asked for a Miller Lite. Now Maddie our server (6 star worthy) made it right, was super cheerful/"embarrassed" and bought me a bar drink to make up for it...so no big deal...BUT wanted the Big Fish...OUT. Wanted fish and chips...OUT. Two of your more popular dishes I bet...wth???? Now the FUNNIEST thing? Couldn't get our bill because...you guessed it...receipt paper for the printer? OUT. 2-3 star worthy. Now, what we were able to scrounge off the menu? Really good as usual. Me and my girlfriend went for a quick late lunch, focusing on appetizers and some beer. As far as atmosphere goes, cute outside seating and decent vibes. But ambiance doesn't cut it alone. Albeit only ordering two appetizers and two beers, the apps we ordered were NOT good. We ordered the 1lb mussels and the nachos with added beef. The mussels were in a butter garlic sauce with what tasted like white cooking wine or champagne(???) that was NOT all the way simmered, it was bitter and extremely sour. The mussel meat was all but ruined and swimming in this weird butter sour soup, basically drinking champagne with mussels. For $15, Easily 1/10 and not acceptable(stay away). The nachos which were $14 and for an additional $7(chicken) or $6(beef) they weren't terrible, but not great either. We got the beef add-on, and the beef was charred and dry, it appeared as if they just let the beef sit under a heat lamp for a few hours, it was black but didn't taste burnt. The nachos had some semi-dry cheese sauce with pico de gallo spread on top and came with a side of sour cream in a black plastic cup (which was fine). The best part about the nachos were what seem to be home made chips, those were quite nice actually. But because of the charred/dry beef it quickly became too salty. Portion size was good so maybe sharing with at least 3-4 people, not sure anyone would notice how salty it can get. For $20, 4/10. Our server was fine, at one point he disappeared for ~15-20 minutes when we were ready to close out but overall service was normal. The beer was also fine, nothing abnormal. Could have been a bit colder if I had to be nit picky. This was our first and last time unfortunately, had decent hopes considering it's in such a premier location in downtown Sanford. We will not be returning as there are much better options on this strip and if any would like to try them(based on this review) AVOID THE MUSSELS. read more

This restaurant is only busy because either people ignore obvious violations, don't care, or just are not aware. On the surface, this looks like a great place; however, the things I saw and experienced is appalling! Customers must go outside at the back of the restaurant to the restrooms. This entails walking across a large area of brick colored tile, which was so greasy that it was an accident waiting to happen! When I reached (very carefully) the ladies room there was no AC. There were no paper towels, only a hand dryer. Most of the floor was wet, the tiny sink counter was covered with water and here comes the worst part... I went to flush the toilet and the toilet lifted off the floor. NO, I'm not kidding. They also had a large plastic bin on the floor catching water from the leaking toilet which was half full. On my way back from the restroom on the inside of the restaurant, there is a doorway on the left where you can take a glimpse into the kitchen. One look and you think to yourself, doesn't the Florida Health Board ever visit this place. Our server, Jacob was very cordial, but a couple of things he needs to do: First, stop preaching religion to your customers. Secondly, be more attentive. The food we ordered was very delicious, but honestly I was very hesitant on eating it after witnessing what the kitchen looked like. Now, as long as I have been a Yelper, I have to admit that up until today, I had no idea that you can go to Yelp, look up a restaurant, scroll down to information and read information from the health department on their reports of a particular restaurant. Had I known this ahead of time, my husband and I would have never, ever eaten at The Breezeway. From now on, I will be checking any and all restaurant health reports before eating at a restaurant. Drove from leesburg to sanford just to eat at the breezeway. There was 4 in our party. We sat there for 20 minutes and no one waited on us. We did flag down a waiter and we told him no one was waiting on us. He did get us menu's and took our drink order and brought our drinks but 30 minutes later no one ever came to take our orders. Can't help to wonder if they were having a bad day or maybe its because one of us was handicapped and in a wheelchair. We got up and left, nothing was said to us. Very bad experience. read more

In town for a concert at Tuffy's and upon arrival, we were looking for a lunch spot in the Historic District. We chose to sit at the outside bar and Louis was our bartender/server. Very friendly and answered several questions about the area and things to do. Pet friendly as we made a pet friend at the bar. We each ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and ordered the Breezeway Tacos to share with blackened mahi that was amazing. Large portion of mahi! Both inside and outside seating are available. We made a reservation for 6:30 because we had tickets to Theater West End. When we arrived, we were told that the restaurant was "slammed." The server was not sure how quickly we would be served. No one was inside but outside was full. We decided to stay since we were not familiar with other restaurants in the area. This restaurant has a beautiful setting if you want to outside in Sanford in the shopping district. We have eaten here for years. The Black & Blue hamburger (our old favorite) is much smaller than it used to be and not nearly as juicy. It was cooked right ((medium well) with just enough pink. My burger (regular) was smaller than my husband's. Also a bit dry. The meat does not seem as good as it used to be. The prices went up too, of course. The server was super great! He was very on top of everything. He wears a hat and has a cool mustache! I wish I remembered his name. Anyway, it was a pleasant lunch, just not a delish as it used to be and pricier. I've passed by The Breezeway a ton of times but never stopped in until last weekend. We decided to eat there before a concert at Tuffy's. The outside is the main hot spot but we opted to sit inside since it was rainy and humid. Inside is quaint, no frills. Our server was very down to earth and chill, her vibe was great. She knew the menu and had great suggestions for all of us since we had lots of questions. I ended up getting the Sanford Special (suggested by our server) and omg it was huge! I had to cut it into sections just to get it small enough to fit on the bun! It was delicious! The horseradish sauce is made in house as well as their coleslaw and most of their other dishes/sauces. This is a really nice spot in the downtown Sanford area. Definitely recommend to seafood lovers, but also, they have a couple vegetarian options as well. I went with the Canadian grilled salmon, and ordered the seasonal vegetables as my side. The salmon had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. If there's one thing that I find really disappointing is when you order fish and its overcooked, but this was done just right. Everyone in our party found their meal really enjoyable! By the way; if you like fish dips, definitely order the mahi dip. They make their crackers fresh in house; SOOO GOOD!! You have to try it. I think it's also noteworthy to mention that they make their dressings in house. I like that there's several things they make themselves and its not just a bunch of bagged up/ frozen items being served; that's what I truly think makes this place special overall, but let's not forget the outdoor seating where they will sometimes have live music and you get that overall vibe that you're on vacation. When we first arrived in downtown Sanford, there was a small line to get in. After exploring the area, we took a peek and we're sat outside in the "breezeway" for lunch. When I saw the ratings, I was a bit concerned, but everything we had was tasty and the staff was super friendly and worked their butts off. Starters: firecracker shrimp, Elysian space ipa ($4.50- can't beat that) & summer time cocktail ($8). The shrimp was reminiscent of bonefish's bang bang shrimp. Mains- catch of the day-1 blackened grouper and 1 blackened mahi--great portion and flavor. The grouper was a bit salty at first, but perfect in the sandwich. Get the homemade chips!! Since it was market price, we didn't know until we got the bill ($17.99), but the low drink costs and service evened it out. read more

Very good first visit for lunch today because I was desperate for that Wedge Salad. From a glance, Breezeway always has a solid "outdoor luncheon" vibe going on. I arrived shortly after opening and was able to quickly place my order for the salad and a cup of French Onion soup. Delicious on both fronts - maybe the best soup I've had in a while. My server was efficient but didn't hover - I was in and out in record time. Solid tunes playing at the bar. Lunch came out to just under $25 - which is the way of the world these days. But when the food and service are this good, I don't mind parting with a few extra pennies. Next time, I'll order a burger to really see if this Breeze is the way. read more

My husband and I were visiting downtown Sanford when we decided to look for someplace to have lunch. We first noticed the Breezeway because it had a covered outdoor dining/bar area. It was seat yourself outside. There was a large powerful fan above us that was blowing so hard I my hair kept flying in my face. That was annoying. We were greeted right away and got our drinks in a reasonable time. I ordered the Nachos for $11.99 and added chicken for an additional $5.00. The nachos consisted of stacked potato chipsh with jalapeño queso cheese sauce, diced tomatoes, jalapeños, diced onions, green onions and bacon, served with sour cream. Initially it looked like a lot of toppings until you dug in. Most disappointing was the meager amount of chicken. Seriously! Not even a $1 worth. The chicken was small ground pieces that we went searching for. What a rip off. There was not nearly enough toppings, leaving all the chips in middle and on the bottom dry with little toppings to go around. $22 was a lot of money for what we actually received. We were extremely disappointed. My husband ordered a 1/2 portion of the grilled Fish Bites for $9.99 (Florida Mahi), served with their homemade Key Lime tartar sauce. They were delicious and we wish that we had just ordered a full order and called it a day. We both would have ordered another drink, but our waitress was no where to be found. Great place! The ambiance in the patio is very laid back, they do allow dogs on the patio. We had the fire cracker shrimp (not pictured) to start, it came on a bed of coleslaw- delicious. I had the margarita, definitely more liquor to mix ratio so 1 was enough. First time here and really happy my friend suggested we stop here for lunch on a Thursday. The place is just like it sounds. Has indoor seating as well as a beautiful large breezeway with its own bar right in the heart of downtown Sanford. Service was very quick and attentive. I had a beer and the black and blue burger. A very cute and fun vibe eatery and bar in the alley way of a couple businesses in Downtown Historic Sanford. We stopped off here to have a couple of drinks before eating dinner nearby. The server was very friendly and helpful. They have a ton of fans around the area and it's all shaded, so while it's still hot, it's MUCH better than normal summer vibe. The bathroom is in the back and around an odd corner, but once you get to that hallway you'll see some great murals and wall art to bring you back into the vibe. The bathrooms don't have any A/C so heads up there, you may not want to linger! I'd love to go back and have a full meal here, but maybe when it's a touch cooler so we can hang out longer. Overall: A Great vibe and friendly service. Totally will be back to give the full menu a go. read more

Three bar service was excellent! The smoked Mahi dip was great. The Stanford Special (Indiana breaded tenderloin sandwich) was good. It is extreme overkill. It's like a cartoon version of our famous state fair sandwich. Plan to share. I don't know how large the lion slice was before tenderizing, but I'd have to guess it was around 16oz. At 12" diameter, it was still 1/4-3/8" thick. I ate about 1/3 of it. The breading was good panko, but really wanted some seasoning. The meat should have had some as well. I'd order it again, but I'd split it with my wife or buddy. read more

We have loved going out in Sanford for many years. The Breezeway is always a hit. We sat inside for date night because it was a hot, muggy night. Both of us got the mahi special but my husband had them change it for grouper. They prepared my Mahi gluten free and said they could accommodate gluten allergies for most dishes. Mine had to be grilled instead of fried because of cross contamination. Our waitress was also the bar tender but she did a great job keeping up with everyone. I really wanted to love this place. They have a few items that rival Frenchie's...but consistency isn't one of them. So, still go to Frenchie's. 1 out of 3 visits it was good. Very good. The other two visits, it was very, very bad. We went 3 days in a row, that's how good dinner number one was. I will say the reason we will give this place another go is because one of the managers corrected the issues from the bill, and thanked us for bringing the issues we had this last visit to his attention instead of just leaving and never coming back. He did let us know where things went wrong, and why. Which I appreciate because even though it wasn't something we had any part in, it is nice that he investigated and communicated. I will say that when one of the people in our group went to wait in the parking lot and was speaking with the employees on their breaks, they said we got one of the worst servers there. I can agree with that statement as we watched for over 2 hours while literally everyone else with other servers getting their drinks and meals within 20 minutes. Meanwhile it took Jacob 30 minutes to tell us they were out of grouper, and then another 53 minutes for our food to arrive. He was really good about ringing in every time we asked him where our drinks were...but we weren't getting them...but he ringed them in EVERY time we asked where our drinks were. He even saw one that we gave to a different member in our group so he could have it and we would wait for the one he ordered...Jacob added that drink to the bill a second time because he saw it in front of him, so we were short 3 drinks not 2. Didn't notice that until today when I had a closer look at the bill. I always tip, always. I used to be a server...but I really wish that I wouldn't have in this case. Some people just are not cut out for this line of work. His greed and arrogance led him to taking every table as soon as possible, and he couldn't keep up. Meanwhile the other servers had time on their hands...I wish I had given them the tip instead. They were loosing out on money because customers were getting stolen from them, and weren't getting cared for. Food this last time wasn't good either. Sadly. The only thing good was the seafood dip. The breezeway is pretty nice old time look and atmosphere. Lots of potential. And according to reviews a few years ago...was amazing. I hope they can get back to that. read more

I always seem to end up at the Breezway when friends and family come to town. I dined here twice over the last two weeks which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We usually start at the Breezway get some food/a drink or two, then bop around town the rest of the evening. Since I have been coming to the Breezway one thing I have noticed is that the food is always good and consistent. Tonight, I ordered The Big Fish ($12.99), Red Hook IPA ($4.50) and a Funky Buddha ($4.50). The drink prices here are great! Anywhere else I would have to fork over $6 for either of these drinks. This is one of the reasons I always come back. The Big Fish is immense and awesome! It is a huge piece of Haddock cooked the way of your choice served on a Kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, onion and house made tartar sauce and one side (I chose coleslaw). I shared the sandwich with my wife and it was enough for both of us. I could definitely eat more but wanted to share another meal at a different restaurant later in the evening. The fish was fresh, flavorful and beautifully cooked/fried. The coleslaw could have used some more seasonings and thinly sliced carrots for sweetness but we enjoyed it regardless. Our server Krissy was friendly efficient and accommodating. Krissy was able to get the eight of us seated fed-n-watered in less than an hour. The meal cost a total of $22.47 minus tax & tip which isn't too bad considering the quality received. I recommend this restaurant to a lot of friends stopping into Sanford for the first time. The Breezway is a great place to get some quality food that can be enjoyed indoors or out on the patio in a friendly environment with local live music. The only complaint's I have is that the tile is slippery and bathrooms could use a remodel. The building is quite old so things have to stay somewhat "Historic". However, guests should not have to slip and slide past the expo station (food serving area) to access the restrooms from inside the venue nor walk around the back of the establishment through vestibule doors to acquire restroom access. Not the end of the world but something that should be noted. Regardless, of these minor complaints, I will be returning to the Breezeway in the near future and will continue to recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. read more

We stopped here on our way to Orlando for a little trip and were pleasantly surprised. First of all, the little town of Sanford is adorable if you've never been, it's definitely worth a stop to take a walk through the antique shops, restaurants, bars, and many other things we didn't get a chance to see. There is a main restaurant inside but it is very small and basically just a bar with a few tables, but I think most people come to sit outside in the actual "breezeway" between the two buildings. They have tvs, a bar and string lights, which I bet is so romantic at night! My husband is from Indiana, so the "Sanford special" pork tenderloin is what drew him in originally. As you can see in the pictures, it's NO JOKE. Most pork tenderloins in Indy are the same way, just gigantic. There is a bun underneath all that meat with lettuce, tomato, pickles and a sauce that comes with it (delish). You can also choose to have an extra "set up" for $3 which is all the fixings and bun for a whole other sandwich if you wanted to share it with someone...which you will. Unless you want to be in pain the rest of the day. Lol. We also ordered the cheese curds with marinara as an appetizer-they were very cheesy and were fried perfectly. I ordered the Floridian burger which is topped with fried jalapeños, onion strings and queso on a brioche bun. It was extremely messy, but it was also great! The two drinks we ordered-the hurricane and swamp water were amazing. Very fruity and tropical. The outdoor seating was perfect for a nice day and during this COVID era Both the wife and I enjoyed their wonderfully prepared blackened Mahi - Nice thick filet with perfect grilling and blackening flavors - Very tasty !
