Sanford~ This is a great addition to the cool vibe of downtown Sanford. We arrived just as they opened on a Friday afternoon. The place has dramatically changed from the former Imperial Bar. We both love seafood so it was hard to make a decision. My lunch mate had the fish and chips and I decided to try the catfish and chips. Both were delicious, although a little bit more greasy than I would have liked. She had the french fries with the old bay seasoning and I opted to do the Parmesan garlic fries! Delicious!! Definitely will make it back in to try the clam chowder, along with a lobster roll or two. Service was great.

    Cute decor!

Love The Current! The lobster roll and fish sandwich were both outstanding--everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the lobster roll was packed with generous chunks of delicious lobster. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, happily answering my questions about the different lobster roll options. They also offer a great selection of craft beers that pair perfectly with the food. The interior is charming with its nautical decor, and there's outdoor seating as well. I'll be back!

Mike Smith is the chef-owner of the Current Seafood Counter in College Park and this stall in Henry's Depot here in Sanford. He also owns Maggie Dog, a craft sausage, roaming food cart in Sanford. I ended up here for dinner from a recommendation by someone working at the Greenery Creamery across the hall. He highly endorsed the Blackened Shrimp Caesar Salad and that sounded like the perfect light meal I was looking for. All of the seafood is sourced from Ocean Fresh in Winter Springs. Menu items offered included salads with fish, fish sandwiches, lobster rolls, fish and chips, clams, shrimp pasta, fried clams, shrimp, fish, and scallops, and buffalo and peel and eat shrimp. Sides include corn hushpuppies, old bay fries, fried okra, garlic parmesan fries, and blackened shrimp skewer. I paid at the counter and was given a beeper to let me know when my food was ready. My $17 salad was not very large but it was good. The crisp salad was topped with one skewer of warm, well seasoned, blackened shrimp. It hit the spot and was exactly the summer meal I was craving. After heading back to Greenery Creamery for dessert they told me that The Current, Seafood Counter was closing after this weekend so the owner could focus on his other businesses. That is a loss for Henry's Depot but I have a feeling this won't be the last time I'll be running into Chef Mike's delicious food.

Henry's Depot has a lot of really tasty options and The Current is a contender for the most delicious. My food was so good and the wait wasn't long. I'm excited to come back and try more of the menu, if you haven't been you're missing out!

    Absolutely delicious fish and chips!

I think they're going to need a bigger boat when word gets around how good they are. Like really good. I grew up on fish and chips, New Englanda' here. Wicked good yo! Super friendly helpful staff who clearly Loves what they're doing doesn't hurt. My new top notch spot despite off brand ketchup.

We came here on a Tuesday afternoon. Not many people here at Lunch today so we got our food quickly. I got the fried catfish nuggets and I upgraded to the hush puppies. Both were served really piping hot and came with a side of two different sauces. Also had tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Tiny little dab of coleslaw almost non-existent but I ate it It was okay. They have limited seating inside and lots of seating outside. My meal came to $18 including the tip. I think this is a little expensive for what you get but it was very good.

Best tip I can give you when coming here: talk to the cashier and ask what's good. The Current holds a space in this market style food hall. If I had been looking for seafood, I may had realized that I was walking into a food hall, but I initially walked into this market looking for BBQ. As soon as I walked by the sign that said "Fish and Chips", I was hooked. I walked over to the BBQ but my heart was already set on the fish and chips, so I just returned. The fish and chips is amazingly good for the prize, and a really good amount. The chips were seasoned fries, which could have been better, and the tartar sauce was just mayonnaise, although pickled veggies were included so it made up for the tartar. Based on my selection, this place has to have good stuff coming out of the kitchen, so l will be back.

Amazing. We had no idea when we pulled in to the ample parking areas around the old depot what we were in for. To our delight we walked into a food court/hall. Many options from sandwiches to ice cream and coffee through various types of cuisine and a bar at the far end. We opted for The Current and it was an amazing choice. I had the clam strips and Old Bay Fries and Brian had the blackened mahi mahi sandwich. The clam strips were delicious and not greasy at all. The Old Bay fries were tasty and Brian's first words after his first bite were "this is amazing". Lightly breaded and not sure how you fry stuff without it being greasy but they managed it. Delicious! This is an order at the counter place and then they give you a pager to notify you when your order is ready. Plenty of tables scattered throughout the food hall as well as a nice deck outside. The inside of the food hall is rather dark and is a bit of a more eclectic decor. Some retro some industrial and some grunge aspects. Definitely a high energy vibe about the place.

This. Is. The. Place! the food was so freshly prepared and delicious I will come back whenever I'm in Orlando every time! The service was friendly, convenient and most importantly FAST! The vibe is fast casual but the service is most certainly not that. The food was hot, fresh and plentiful. Had the fried shrimp basket, lobster roll (we will get back to this!), hush puppies, fish and chips and sweet tea (a little of everything!). The staff checked in on us despite having gotten our food and sitting outside. Offering condiments and refills on drinks. Now back to the lobster roll, I have literally never said this... there was so much lobster meat it was falling off the roll and delicious. I'm coming back just for it. Please visit and keep this place going. It's DELICIOUS!

Fantastic, fresh seafood options in a welcoming environment. The fry on the fish is light and not greasy. It was easy to enjoy and digest. The lobster roll was meaty and delicious. It's definitely a low-key, no frills established serving quality seafood. Highly- recommend!

Fried okra side, with Sriracha aioli
    Charles M.

Located closer to the south entrance of Henry's Depot, The Current's seafood options looked very appealing as I was attempting to choose which food option for my evening meal. Although I chose my main course elsewhere, the fried okra with aioli sauce kept calling me until I finally gave in and ordered the side. The okra arrived in a fairly short time, and the side was plentiful enough to share with one of my friends. We both enjoyed the light on the batter and cooked perfectly okra, but the aioli sauce stole the show and complemented the flavor of the batter and okra. Because of all the seafood menu options, including a lobster roll, I'd like to visit this location again or the restaurant in College Park and make what I'm sure will be a time-consuming choice.

We were welcomed upon entrance and given kind, respectful answers to my many questions regarding their seafood. It did smell like live seafood when we walked in. I don't mind the smell due to being raised by seafood foodie parents who eat live fresh seafood weekly. We ordered a crawfish and shrimp combo for $14. We also ordered a crawfish and muzzle combo for my brother. And in addition, we wanted to try the light blue crabs for $20, which was four total blue crabs. These prices included cleaning & cooking the seafood for us. That saves us time and cleaning at home. We brought it home to eat with steamed rice and dipped the seafood in lemon pepper, cocktail sauce, and lime juice. The blue crabs were fresh and full of meat. I would skip the crawfish, mussels, and shrimp for my next seafood feast. The seasonings were perfect.

After exploring the fun options, we decided to follow this fun guy's rave review. Boy... that was a giant mistake. We arrived around 2:30 pm so we didn't expect a vibrant crowd but it was pretty dead. We asked about beverages and the lovely server informed us that they were out of almost everything, the drink menu wasn't accurate, and she could just tell us what was on tap. Okay.. that's fine and we picked some reasonable beers. Then it all fell to hell. Hubby asked for the dinner with redfish only to have the server look at him dumbfounded and say she didn't know if they had it. Okay.. I asked for the crab cake appetizer with a side of fries. They have multiple loaded fry options on the menu. They had no fries. None. No redfish either. Hell, pretty sure they didn't have catfish either. We opted out of any entrees and just got the crab cakes (sans fries). Stopped by the ladies potty and it was super stinky, though still manageable. What wasnt manageable were the doors with broken locks and the toilet seats that slid across the bowls when you tried to tinkle. It's pretty when you look toward the sinks. It's vile when you sniff toward the pots. The crab cakes finally arrived and smelled/looked delicious. Alas, looks are wildly deceiving when the chef flips the BLACKened cakes so that you don't see it, but you sure as heck tasted the epic char of loneliness. I don't know what to make of this experience because many have had a lovely meal. They were understaffed (the server was a lovely darling), they were severely under-prepared, and the chef tried to hide an epic fail of a dish by flipping it over. Do I think I others should try it? I actually do. They have had good reviews and this was weird. Will I be back? No, that's very unlikely. I wish them the best but this was a fairly epic fail.
