Michelin bib gourmet place located fairly far from the touristy area (need to get subway including…read morea connection). It was a fairly good place though not worth the commute. The cooking seems really home style. No fancy presentation or ingredients.... just regular components in large servings. Prices are very reasonable especially given the portions. I'd recommend the pork and clam dish. Pork was tender and very flavorful. Potato's were delicious. Main complaint was that all 3 dishes had lots of potatoes. Staff speak English.

Too lazy to make it to downtown for dinner, we decided to explore the restaurants near our hotel…read more I've always like Alentejo cuisine, and it'll be a nice change from the seafood we've been having. As usual, we are presented with several dishes of appetizers (olive, cheeses, bread) as we sit down. It's just the custom, not really a ploy to cheat customers, though I know many customers feel so. Just let the waiter know what you will like to keep, and he'll take the other dishes away, no hash feeling. Usually these appetizers are listed in the menu as well, so the cost is not necessary a surprise. Anyway, we decide to get the Açorda à Alentejana, the classic soup from the region made with bread, loads of garlic, finely chopped coriander, and poached eggs. It's a light soup, garlicky and definitely great for a cool night or if you have a cold. I couldn't decide between the Porco à Alentejana (pork w clam) and the stewed lamb, but ended up with lamb. The broth is lighter than I expected, but the lamb is very tender, and you can tell from the bones it's a really young lamb, so it's a good thing they keep the seasoning light. They have many wines from the Alentejo region, including some half bottles, we ended up with one that's €6.50. Quite good, with notes of dried plums, though a bit strong for the dish itself.

A nice experience from a somewhat undiscovered place…read more... Our last night and layover in Lisbon, and when searching for a nearby restaurant to the Moxy Lisbon Oriente hotel, this place came up. Not a lot of reviews, but they were positive and this place was within a 5 min walk from the hotel. So why not - and glad we did. Walked in at the 7 pm dinner opening, and the dining area was a neat, white table cloth setting, but with the dinnerware placements all set up with (potential) wine bottles on each table! In addition to this, had many other wines placed all over, so it looked like a wine shop almost! Almost paradise for a wineo! Menu with a somewhat limited selection came written on two 33rpm vinyl records, which was neat. So we ordered a Table Mix (recommended by the server, beef with rice dish), Rooster fish (no idea what that was but the server highly recommended it), and some fries. Bread also came with the always great tasting European cheese, olives and butter. I asked the server to recommend a great tasting Portugese wine that would go well with the food we ordered, and shortly thereafter, he came with a bottle. I have to admit my instructions were a bit loose, did not give any other parameters, and had intended to be just a glass. But admittedly having a REALLY big glass of wine at the hotel just prior to walking to this restaurant, my already affected brain justified this bottle by "heck, this is our last evening in Portugal, our last chance, I will share this with my wife, and I drink something I will never find in Hawaii." So I gave him yhe green light to open the bottle... and it was great! (Price was 68 euros, much more than I anticipated since a lot of Portugese wines are inexpensive), but I did not specify nor check...but heck, I TOTALLY enjoyed it! Food was really good, fish was fried, white, flaky and perfectly seasoned. Beef was also perfectly seasoned. Rice stew dish was so-so. So if you're in the eastern side of Lisbon, look this place up and give it a try! For me, an experience to chalk up!
