We tried Der Weichandhof while staying at the nearby Hotel Schleusse, and were lucky enough to be there for their "Vienna night". Rather than the traditional Bavarian food, they were featuring Vienna cuisine and beer. There was also a three person band performing Austrian songs for the patrons and though they were a bit pushy with their CD sales, it added to the atmosphere. We sat in the immense beer garden which was populated with locals, their dogs, and their kids at the on-premises playground. It made for a very welcoming, authentic feeling.
Service was very good and attentive. We sat for a few hours enjoying the sights and sounds and had a few rounds of beer and the moment we put an empty glass down, we were asked if we wanted more. The waitresses were all clad in traditional Bavarian drindles which was a bit cheesy but didn't feel forced.
I don't recall the names of what we ordered and the special menu isn't on their site anymore, but everything was delicious. I got a steak that was covered in crunchy onions and came with some delicious fried potatoes on the side. My wife got the tafelspitz which was covered in fantastic gravy sauce.
Weichandhof is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening soaking in the atmosphere, some good traditional food, and some delicious beer. read more
