Authentic Dim Sum in the Heart of Amsterdam If you are looking for authentic Chinese flavors near…read morethe Red Light District/Chinatown, Oriental City is the place to go. It's a multi-level restaurant that stays packed during prime hours, which is always a good sign for the food quality. They serve Dim Sum all day, which is a huge plus. The flavors are very traditional. While the Dim Sum was solid across the board, the Beef Chow Fun was the absolute standout--perfectly prepared with that signature "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The staff isn't necessarily warm and fuzzy, but they are efficient. Don't expect a long chat, but you'll get your food quickly. Be prepared for a bit of a climb; the restaurant spans several floors and it appears to be stairs-only. It gets very crowded, so timing your visit is key. A must-visit for Chinese food fans in Amsterdam. Just be ready for a lively, busy environment!

This particular restaurant satisfied my craving for Asian food, located next to the Red Light District. Service was very helpful and friendly, food was just as good! Was also interesting to see the Asian staff speak Norwegian also to other customers. Great place to get your Asian food fix when traveling here.

The location is also not very obvious, the hotel is located just next to a big McDonalds restaurant in a more industrial area. Just before you get to the McDonalds, you have to take a right to enter the hotel parking lot. There is no sign outside indicating that there is a good sized restaurant inside. Once inside, the hotel lobby interior decor feels very Asian and many of the staff are Asian. You almost feel like you just entered a hotel in China. The staff speaks English, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin dialects I think) as well as Dutch. We didn't stay at the hotel so this review is for the restaurant ONLY. We had made a reservation ahead of time, for a large group of almost 20 people and the staff was very friendly, patient and accommodating. If you want to contact the restaurant directly without going through the hotel reception, call 020-6100270 instead. We selected one of the set menus and got more than enough food. The menu appears to have many Cantonese specialities. I particularly enjoyed the delicious Peking duck (served with pancakes), the wonton soup, the steamed oysters, the white chicken and the crispy squid stuffed with shrimp. If you want the crispy pork belly though, you have to order a day ahead of time. Overall, the food was excellent and this restaurant is on par with the good Chinese restaurants in downtown Amsterdam. Prices were reasonable. The place is a bit of a hidden gem that I only managed to find because my mom knew about it from a local source (they don't have a website). Judging by the presence of other Asian customers, I think word has gotten around. I would definitely consider coming back here.

As such it aims to cater the needs of international customers, but specializes in authentic Cantonese cuisine. It is staffed by regulars from the local Chinese community and the quality and service is on par with that of the more famous restaurants in down town Chinatown (Oriental City, Sea Palace, Nam Kee, etc). It lacks the (stereotype) Chinese ambiance in favor of a more hotel lounge feel. But there's always the cozy buzz of Chinese customers enjoying the great food. For me the advantage is that it is very easy to reach by car or public transport (or bike on a sunny day), and it usually isn't crowded like the better known places. But be sure to check if they have a table available, as large Chinese delegations are sometimes dropped there. Overall, consistently an excellent place for yumcha or dinner!

Amber Garden is an award-winning, ex-Michelin restaurant serving authentic yet elevated Chinese food by Head Chef Song. Each dish was executed well with an appreciation to different regions of China. I particularly enjoyed the snow crab salad, Beijing duck, and beef short ribs. I'm getting hungry just thinking about how beautiful yet tasty these dishes were! I was shocked at how empty it was and highly recommend you check them out.

We started with some dim sum and peppery hot and sour soup, which served as a nice appetizer. Then we really enjoyed the full Peking duck. The accompanying & optional duck skin dish with caviar was over the top and not worth the extra attention and cost. The spicy Radish cake with XO sauce was my favorite and the scallion pancake with pork was a close second. The fried fish was mostly fried and less fish-still had a lot of flavor. The service was impeccable. I would return again to try the other dishes.
