If your nose is in working order, you know that there is something different about the Scheepvaartmuseum in Amsterdam before you even get through the front door. SOMETHING smells delicious. Once you get through the door, you find yourself asking, "What is that delightful smell? I must have some of that!" This is not your standard museum snack bar, by a long shot. Forget about plastic-wrapped sandwiches, a cooler full of drinks, and bags of chips. Instead, get ready for delicious, made-to-order food with the kind of care in presentation that I have normally only seen in the kind of restaurants that charge at least $25.00 per person just for the entrée. But the weird thing is that, while the prices were a little higher than you might pay in a snack bar or fast food joint, they were nowhere near what I would have expected for food like this.
So if you're determined to stick to that diet, you probably shouldn't even enter the museum. I'm not sure that anybody could spend much time in that building without lining up for the food. It was probably the best meal I had all week, and that's saying a lot, because the week I spent in Amsterdam was a particularly good week for a foodie. read more
