My wife and I had a lovely lunch at Skipperly. (pronounced skipper-lew") on the sunny but very windy day following a storm. Thank you friend Helle for recommending Skipperly. It's right above the harbor in Ballen. We ate inside with a view to the harbor.
The lunch menu is traditional Danish. So go with the flow and order open faced sandwiches and beer. I had the "star shot" (stjerneskud"), which is a fried flounder/place fillet on French bread, then covered with tiny Greenland shrimp and caviar on top of the shrimp. Plus a slice of lemon and remoulade sauce. The "star shot" was both beautiful and tasty. One is a full meal.
The service was friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent.
Note: I had "stjerneskud" at a couple of restaurants the following week. Skipperly's was by far the best.
Extra credit: A Copenhagen chef invented and named "stjerneskud" when Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin ate at her restaurant in 1962. The fish fillet looks vaguely like a rocket -- if you squint your eyes. read more
