Recently the place was renovated and turned into a luxury hotel. The setting is wonderful at the edge of the Svendborg Sund / by the water. The rooms are good sized (by Danish Standards) and have free Wifi. The place has a really fantastic kitchen. We had individual small plates for breakfast. We had 2 courses for lunch and 3 course meals at dinner with really good wine. The food is top notch and very tasty. There is also a small bar and great facilities to hang-out. In a neighboring building they have meeting facilities. The coffee / tea was not fantastic for the meeting, but the rest was wonderful and at a very reasonable price.

Probably the best compliment that you can give a hotel. Especially the General Manager Peter Ibsen, the F&B chef Kim and the entire service staff including Jacob did a terrific job. They have been at the forefront at all times and worked very hard to please us and make this wedding a once in a lifetime experience. Everybody walked the extra mile for us. The hotel Stella Maris is absolutely wonderful. It is a very charming, lovely and stylish boutique hotel with a very good eye for the details. The rooms are kept in a very nice Scandinavian interior design. From most of the rooms and the terrace you can see the Svendbørg sund and it gives you the feeling of being right by the sea. The restaurant and the food is fantastic and sustainable. The ingredients are very local or being delivered from the island Vejrø where they grow vegetables, pork, eggs etc. that are being used in the cuisine. Some of our guests mentioned that this was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. Also the a l a carte menu is excellent. We have not had a single menu that wasn't great. Also if you have time we would also recommend you to visit Vejrø, stay over in the lovely rooms and eat at the skipperly. There you can see and experience how the ingredients are being grown and kept. If you plan your wedding or just want to stay for a romantic weekend escape and want a wonderful hotel in a great location with competent, experienced, service oriented staff and fantastic local food - go there! We would do it any time again.

From Copenhagen, two trains and a ferry will get you there. Schedules are efficient so you're not left idling around at any transfer too long. That might sound like a lot, but you are rewarded with a beautiful and quiet town, far different from the big cities like Copenhagen. While we all loved Copenhagen, we all agreed slowing down and visiting Aeroskobing was one the highlights of the trip. Everything is quite walkable in this town, you definitely don't need a car. Our hotel (Andelen Guesthouse) had bikes available to use which allowed us to explore beyond the town limits of Aeroskobing. There are a few restaurants and bars, as well as a grocery store. There's just enough in the food and beverage area to keep you happy. It's definitely worth walking around - walking out to the ocean's edge where folks keep small bath houses, the side streets where you'll see old homes (some of which aren't level) and cobblestone streets. We were also grateful that our hotel had bikes, as the bike ride we did for a good chunk of the daylight hours brought us to interesting areas around the island, including a small brewery (good way to quench your thirst). Take a detour from the cities in Denmark and pay this place a visit, you won't regret it.

Terra-cotta tiles roofs on old buildings with ancient doors. Cobblestoned streets, docks, little shops, cafes, hollyhocks galore (in the summer) are only a few of the immediate impressions. My advice: walk around and explore Ærøskøbing's nooks and crannies.
