Did you like the 1960's? If you did Danish train service is the thing for you. A slow bumping ride…read morefar from modern thinking. Electrified? No, sir! Diesel driven. Expensive? Yes, mama! How come? They say Danish politicians never take the train... they should! // Five days after this was written; been sitting one hour in a train standing still. A system collapse. More than that I would add.

Anyone that's traveled in Denmark will be familiar with DSB train stations and aware of the wide…read morespectrum of experience to be had. The central station in Copenhagen, for example, is an architectural beauty with everything you could possibly need or want. Other places, they are simply holes in a the wall and you're glad the train doesn't stop there for too long. Nyborg's train station is no paradise, but as far as train stations go in Denmark, it's actually pretty good. Parking is typically adequate, even during the busy (read: holiday) periods. It's in a good location with a nice surrounding area, and you feel reasonably safe there at all hours of the day or night. Inside they have a good sized gift shop and ticket office, where you can buy all sorts of magazines, maps, lotto cards, quick food like a French hotdog, or even some Danish pastries and rolls and a coffee to keep you warm until the train shows up. The staff has always been extremely friendly and, surprisingly, we even met someone working there that used to live in Phoenix, Arizona? How cool is that? Bathrooms are well maintained and adequate, and they even have an area to keep your kids busy and away from everyone else, which is always appreciated. Because it's such a nice, low-key place, we almost always make this our point of departure to and from Fyn, even though there are other train stations within about equal distance from where we stay when visiting. Bonus points, you tend to get FAR fewer tourists here than in the big city (Odense) train station. There's no frill here, no movie theater or other activities that attract youth (or trashy folk) with nothing better to do, so it's typically quiet, uncrowded, uneventful and all around a great place to catch a train. You just don't get the thugs and tons of foreign thieves and hoodlums here like you do in the big city train stations, and it's a welcome change of pace. Highly recommended!
