To see the beautiful, scenic island of Ærø is to gently step back to a more rustic time, amid meticulously restored 18th century homes on cobblestone streets, and windswept trails along the Baltic Sea. To truly take in its pace is to stay a night or more.
In the town of Ærøskøbing, På Torvet is one of a few inns, a charming establishment located on the town square, within several minutes walk of the ferry dock. Each of their 11 apartments are unique in design and layout, accommodating two persons in most, and up to four in two family apartments, and surround a communal courtyard with patio chairs and tables.
Our apartment on the lower level had curved white walls with niches, reminiscent of building interiors I've stayed in Santorini, Greece, and a cave home in Seville, Spain. The living room had a lovely sitting area in minimalist yet whimsical Danish design, in soft pastels that are incredibly relaxing. The bath had modern amenities, such as towel warmer, and an open shower. The bedroom was cozy, the bed and sheets reasonably comfortable. The apartment was immaculate and a pleasure to stay in. Amenities included wifi, television, and Molton Brown bath products. No air conditioning, which was unnecessary during our stay.
The front desk is staffed from 9 AM - 6 PM, and our host was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is worth adding on because there are few area options, but of greater note, På Torvet serves an excellent, ample one with terrific cheeses and charcuterie, fresh bread and pastries, yogurt with plentiful toppings, and eggs.
På Torvet offers a great stay in the town of Ærøskøbing, as a base from which to explore the town and island. read more
