Been there once and had a really good experience. I was there for brunch and the brunch had amazingly big selection for different kinds of food and everything was delicious. (Brunch for ~15€) I checked also the menu and the prices are good, my friend ordered a regular breakfast which came with bacon and 3 eggs, plate of marmalade, nutella, bread, cheese, and a normal glass of orange juice, and that was not even 10€! We made a reservation for inside (they dont take reservations for outside) and when we arrived, we asked to sit outside, the waitress was really nice and friendly and she arranged a table right away for 10 people. To me friendliness of the waiters and waitresses is really important, it makes me connect to the place. So for my experience the friendliness of the staff was the highlight. Best oatmeal/porridge in all Vienna!!!!!! And for only EUR3.30. The breakfast buffet is not a good deal however. EUR14.50 and the coffee or tea is not included. And you have to pay EUR0.80 for a tiny gluten free roll although it was promised that there was gluten free bread at the buffet. There wasn't. Luckily breakfast is non-smoking, however, it is smoking at all other times as there are separated smoking and non-smoking rooms (but we all know that the non-smoking areas smell of smoke as well) read more

We had such high hopes for brunch. 2/5 customer service, 4/5 food quality, -1/5 experience... Patio spots were looking free but we were told to sit inside, ok not a deal breaker. My menu missed the breakfast page, which is the only thing I wanted, again not a deal breaker. We order two meals, one complicated (urige) the other a simple omelette with cheese and mushrooms. Now we get deal breakers as my urige arrives but no omelette dish. We wait. I wait. Chivarly and all... Still nothing, I flag the server and inquire, she goes off and doesn't come back... Now we start sharing my meal, as there's plenty to go around. Finally, the 'meal' arrives. But its scrambled eggs only. Ugh, I flag the server, explain the issue, again we wait. Second attempt is no better. They threw cheese and mushroom on top of the old meal and baked it. So at this point we are done. Another deal breaker is my eggs and bacon are scrambled. Where's the problem there? In the bacon. The slices had cartilage attached, so I needed to pick each one out of my scrabbled pile of eggs. I missed one and managed to crunch my teeth uncomfortably. Lots of promise to be better, but alas, not there yet. Very nice looking place, meal also looked good aside from the problems encountered, and I may come back to try the expensive buffet. read more

This was by far THE BEST breakfast my girlfriend and I had while staying in Vienna. The food was excellent and the prices low. We both had the oatmeal/porridge and a 3 egg omelet. Let me start off by saying that for 3,30€, the oatmeal alone was enough to fill our hungry bellies. Yes, full off 3,30€ in Vienna. Not only would we have been satisfied by just the oatmeal, it was amazing. Fresh oats, sweetened with (I believe) brown sugar filled a large, beautiful square shaped glass. These amazing oats were then topped with fresh apricot slices, blueberries, strawberries and gooseberries. The tart fruits were plentiful and a great balance to the sweet oats. The omelets were also really good, for just 3,90€. The eggs were cooked beautifully, soft and luscious on the tongue. You really have to cook eggs low and slow to achieve that texture. You get a choice of two fillings, and if you do choose a cheese, they do not skimp! As my girlfriend knows, I usually make a comment after a few bites of food (especially eggs) that a little more salt could have been added to bring out the flavors. I did no such thing during this epic meal. I rarely enjoy a place this much, and I don't usually take the time to write a review, but this place deserves it. Brunch Budget? After reading the reviews and seeing Salzberg featured on a Vienna website, I was excited to try brunch there. I didn't make a reservation and actually had no problem getting seated with a friend around 11:30am on a Saturday. It was busy and quite loud, but the staff was friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to see gluten-free bread as an option in the a-la-carte breakfast section of the menu and I asked the waitress if it was also available at the buffet. She said yes, at no extra charge. So I went to the buffet. Turns out, after I started filling my plate, she was wrong and there was no gluten-free option for bread at the buffet, but I could pay 80 cents extra for one piece of gluten free bread. Ugh. I felt trapped. So I agreed. I ordered two buns. That already adds 1,60 to my already over 14,00 euro buffet charge. Hm. The buffet was well stocked with warm and cold options, spreads, meat and vegetarian options, and juices. Turns out coffee is also not part of the buffet. Add over 3 euros more to my bill and tip and now I was at 20 euros for brunch. Could have gone to a swanky hotel brunch for that price. Next time I am going to only order a la carte. I am willing to give them a second chance, but no once should have to strategize costs while reading through a menu. Also, if all gluten eaters at the buffet get all you can eat bread, then why did mine cost 80 cents per piece? Weird and shady. I make my own for way less than that. If they bought it at a store, I would even be happy with them limiting it to two pieces included in the buffet and not all you can eat, but I am not in charge:) read more

I've been here twice so far and I think that food here is OK! I tried their brunch buffet - it is decent; perhaps not the best I've tried but it is nice enough and offers a various range of bread, vegetables, yoghurt and all the usual breakfast stuff. They have got a waffle maker as well, which I didn't try though. I have also tried their omelette a la carte, it was nothing special, but not bad either! What I don't like is that the buffet is placed kind of in the middle of the room and that actually makes the place feel a bit crowded. Also, waiters here have their good and bad days. The first time I came here I was pleasantly surprised - my waiter was very friendly and made the effort to make sure I am happy with everything. Today another waiter had a bad day. She forgot that I ordered coffee and when I reminded her about this, she didn't even apologise. Also the group of 4 people on the table next to me told her that she forgot their melange - she did not seem to be surprised. Perhaps one more waiter during the breakfast time wouldn't be too bad.. read more

From all the good reviews and friends' recommendations I decided that I simply MUST try this place for breakfast. What an experience. I ordered an omelette, with cheese and mushrooms. Simple, right? Some minutes later, my husband gets his breakfast. A server came by that seated us, since she saw that I had no food, and told me that she'll check on my omelette. So, the wait began. 15-20 minutes later, still no food, finally saw our server and she didn't seem to have known that I have not received anything yet. By this point, I'm sharing my husband's breakfast (which, I must say, was quite good). Eventually, an omelette came! But nothing in it now, no cheese, no mushrooms, just a plain omelette. I pointed this out right away, and she offered to bring them on the side. Um? How is that supposed to work? Cheese and mushrooms? That should be IN the omelette? So, I explained that this solution doesn't make sense, as my cheese should be melted in the eggs, and mushrooms should be cooked inside too. Reluctantly she took my plain omelette away. At this point, it's been over half an hour, I do not have food, and my poor husband is trying to wait for me and share in the meantime. And then it came! The "mushroom & cheese omelette" now was the same old eggs, broken up around the pan (scrambled-like) with mushrooms and cheese on top and baked, to melt the cheese over the now twice-cooked, rubbery and overdone eggs. Wow! Lost my appetite and didn't care to eat this mess. The server apologised and said that I don't have to pay for it. Um? Pay for what? I didn't get what I ordered and I didn't eat. So this wonderful brunch left me hungry and angry. To end things nicely, she said that she hopes that next time we're in Vienna we'll stop by. It is my guess that she assumed that we were tourists and didn't matter, as repeat business was not a concern. Once I mentioned that we live here, she got more apologetic. The price and quality at this place are really, really good. We had the porridge (ca €3.5), bacon and eggs and omelette with choice of 2 toppings. The outside area is really nicely done and the service is pretty good too. The only downside (why it is not 5 stars) is the bacon and eggs were quite oily, more than needed I think, but the whole experience was great! Will definitely go again!! read more

What a great discovery! I would never had thought that in this quiet streetcorner i'll find such an agreable and yummy restaurant! What first stroke me: how friendly our waitress was :) The food itself didn't take long to be served and we could enjoy our tasty dishes in a lovely environment. The pizza was the only disappointment: the dough was too thick and not cooked enough... A pity, really, for their pasta, salats and meat dishes are perfectly well cooked and with the right seasoning. They even have soy milk for your coffee latte!! :) I'll definately come back for more yummy food and maybe try the outdoors seatings in the summer! read more

This place is very interesting... Its got different vibes depending on your choice of outing. Its a restaurant for dining, can be a chill out cafe and a choice for brunch on the weekend. In all those three choices, I was most blown away with their brunch. As restaurant its a decent place. I believe their menu changes weekly or bi-weekly but it has been pretty delicious each time. As a cafe, its nice to go there if you enjoy quiet as it never gets too busy there during the late afternoon and/or evenings. So not so loud and very chilled. However, come for brunch and its a different story. This place turns into a busy loud tight place, showing the signs of a well-run restaurant. There is a lot to choose from buffet. suits for the vegetarian as much as it does for a meat eater. However, make a reservation for brunch because you will be deemed lucky if you walk in there and grab a seat. The service has always been good in my experience and they were always friendly. However, this is like in any good place in Vienna, the waiters are busy and overworked. So you could feel a bit ignored as they are always busy rushing around. read more

3 stars for now. I have to give this place another try because the first time just wasn't memorable. Some dishes were good and some were just average: - Spinach dumplings with cream, cheese and ham. Very good. Home made, good texture and the cheese and sauce is not overpowering. A good dish to try. They also have it in the vegetarian version. - Zwiebelrostbraten - they are making it our of filet steak and not ribeye as the most places in Vienna. This dish was 2 stars at best. The meat was so overcooked, almost boiled, and as it is a very lean cut of meat it was stringy and chewy and totally NOT tasty. - Salzberg schnitzel - very good. Made with pork, stuffed with ham, cheese and greens. The meat was tender and the taste hit the spot. - Pork medallions wrapped in bacon - good. Unfortunately they said they couldn't seat us in the non-smokers area without a reservation, even though there was PLENTY of space. One of the waiters blatantly did not care about keeping the door closed either. This is the main reason I haven't given a higher rating! I tried one of the 3 Craft Beer options and it was great. This really does deserve 5 stars. We ate there for the first time and I am sure it won't be the last. I wasn't too sure about the table with the high chairs, not being the youngest anymore, but to my surprise I was quite comfortable The service was quick and efficient; our waiter very pleasant. He took our drink orders immediately and left us to read the menu. I have to say I had a hard time trying to decide what to have. Everything on the menu appealed. But I decided on the boned Backhendl with potato and lambs lettuce salad - a particular favourite of mine. Several others in our company chose the same thing. I was told that the broccoli soup was excellent, as was the strudel - I think it was Blunzen. The wine was very good - a Welschriesling. The beer was good too, apparently. Two of us shared a Topfenknödel dessert - a very generous portion with two dumplings filled with a Toblerone cream and served on a strawberry chilli purée. Delicious. My friend had the grape strudel.. It certainly looked tasty, and she polished it off with gusto. I look forward to my next visit. This location holds memories for my husband and I. Many years ago we used to visit the restaurant that was located where Salzberg now serves its customers. We celebrated our wedding day, enjoying lunch with family. Smoke everywhere, no effort in separation of air circulation between smokers and non-smokers, the door to the smoking area is always open, but even if its closed it is ineffective because there is a large gap in the glass wall. The smoking area is clearly receiving preferential treatment, since it is right behind the entrance and has a bar in it. Granted, this is Vienna, but I feel like I have to do my part in changing this kind of business practice. The food and the wine and the service are good otherwise. read more

essen vom Buffet war in Ordnung. Wer sich auf die Waffeln freut, muss viel Zeit mitbringen. Denn es gibt nur ein Waffeleisen, womit sich lange Schlangen bilden. Weiche Eier gibt es leider auch keine am Buffet. Nur harte im Glas. Service ist auch eher schlecht. Bei vollem Lokal wurden die schmutzigen Teller gut eine halbe Stunde nicht abgeräumt. Ebenso musste man sich als Gast hartnäckig ans Personal heften um Getränke zu bestellen. Zum bezahlen mussten wir an die Bar, weil irgendwie die Kellnernin nicht mehr aufgetaucht ist. read more
