Coming from out of town, I came w my family. No acknowledgment walking in. Unfriendly. Felt unwelcome. Besides all that we took a vote as a family and decided that we still wanted to dine there because we were extremely hungry. We then waited to be served. After 10 mintues we flagged someone to help us. The employees just starred at eachother trying to figure out who was going to assist us. We then couldnt take it anymore and walked out. Unimpressed. Ended up going to GENKI SUSHI which was down the street, where customer service was great and the place was more lively. For the prices this place was trying to charge, the service should of been on point. read more

We've driven past this spot for years and really felt compelled to give it a try this evening. There aren't many options for variety here, especially when it comes to vegan food and I couldn't be happier to have discovered a wonderful new addition to our favorite spots to eat in Hilo. Our server was easily one of the best we've ever had; friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating and attentive. She asked the chef right away about ingredients for us in particular dishes and even brought out special additions to our meals from the chef (as we didn't get the Mac salad or slaw portion of one meal). It was my birthday. We hadn't eaten here in a while and we both wanted to have a Korean dish that we've had there before. We were told as we entered to seat ourselves. Water and the menus were brought to our table. There were three occupied tables, including ours and two servers. One table, a couple, were finished with their meal. We knew what we wanted so I put our menus at the edge of the table to signify that we were ready to order. It took her ten minutes to take our order. She was "busy" talking to her coworkers, answered the phone and talking to the other couple. We ordered our Korean dishes and were brought our banchan. We ordered Korean cuisine and no kimchee in our banchan. We got tsukemono instead, Japanese pickles. I asked if there was kimchee and she brought us some. How is it that when you order Korean and not have Korean banchan ? We also had to ask for more water. We were extremely disappointed and although the main dish was good, the service was terrible. We like to go to local but, we've had terrible service there more than twice and unfortunately, won't be returning. read more

My sister and I happened upon Restaurant Osaka by accident. We were actually trying to go to Big Island Delights for some yummy treats, but they were closed (Sunday). So when we were thinking of some place to eat for dinner, my sister remembered Restaurant Osaka which was located right next to Big Island Delights. As soon as we walked in we were greeted & seated right away. We chose to sit by the front door, so I wasn't able to see how big the restaurant really was. Looked like the usual . . tables and boothes. It got pretty busy and I could only see 2 waitresses, but we never wanted for anything, Our water & tea were always refilled without us having to ask or wait too long. The menu was pretty vast with American, Korean and Japanese choices. My sister and I chose Japanese. I ordered the shrimp tempura & teri beef combo and she chose the tempura & tonkatsu. I was surprised at how much teri beef I got and there were nice pieces too (not fatty like some places). My sister really enjoyed her tonkatsu saying it was SOOO tender and delicious. We both enjoyed our last meal in Hilo (on our way to the airport) and were happy with our accidental find. read more

With a name of Osaka, I was expecting quality Japanese food. This review is not for the Korean part of the menu. I would probably give out 2.5 stars if possible. Their prices are much cheaper than other Japanese eateries in the area, but their service and food quality are akin to the lower prices. The .5 stars are because the food was not terrible, just meh. While the serving sizes were hefty, the flavor was missing. Miso soup was a very large bowl, but the flavor was lacking. Pickles were on the sweet side. The beef tofu was on the sweet side as well, beef on the hard side. Service was quite slow with only 1 wait help for lunch on a Saturday. Menus a little greasy - really felt I needed to wash my hands after ordering! This restaurant is a Hilo staple and I don't like to dis local mom & pop shops. If I could give no star I would. From the moment we walked in no one acknowledged us and all the tables had dirty dishes from the person who left before. We got a set in the front and sat down no still acknowledged us sitting down it took a good 10 minutes for the lady to come and bring us a menu. After that we waited anger 10 for water. We finally got to order and they didn't have Kalbi and then came back and they didn't have chicken Katsu. After that we left a two dollar tip and disappointed. They need to have better service and have the items on the menu. And now we're at SAKURA better faster service and the meal is way cheaper! read more

This is a nice little place that serves both Japanese and Korean food. My friend and I were craving Korean food so we ordered the hot stone bibimbap and the kim chee tofu soup. Both were equally delicious. Their sides were good also, but they are not unlimited. It was a bit pricey, but their food made it worth it. They had good customer service also. read more

No complaints. Very satisfied. Kalbi tempura combo was very tasty as usual (Kalbi is like what Jimmy's used to serve and tempura with dipping sauce is the tastiest in Hilo) and even the tempura dipping sauce which I poured all the leftover liquid with tempura crumbs straight onto the rice. Miso soup with included sides were great. Prices are expected to be up but so are the rest of the Japanese and Korean restaurants. This place offers the best and most consistent quality of food compared to the other competitive restaurants in Hilo for around the same prices if not a little cheaper. Other dishes worth mentioning the sweet sour spare ribs was delicious but my mother thought it was a little on the oily side but I personally really like oily greasy restaurant food (and especially the oily greasy side orders of Teri BBQ beef and other oily items from Kawamoto's and Asami's). Their Katsus are phenomenal and so is their katsu sauce (I really think they make absolutely the best Katsus in Hilo with the tastiest katsu sauce). Haven't tried their other Korean dishes aside from their yummy Kalbi and mundoo and Korean fried chicken wings/ drummetts and their fried rice was exceptional as always. I also always enjoy their deep fried breaded seafood combo with tartar sauce which really reminds me of what the former Hilo Lanes restaurant and Verna's used to serve definitely way better than K's. Their tiny little breaded deep fried oysters were excellent as usual too. Service was friendly and relatively quick as usual. This place is by far, hands down, a much tastier alternative with better overall food quality and consistency and portion size with friendlier and quicker service compared to Miwa's and Miyo's. If I worked at this restaurant I'd probably be really happy to be eating their food everyday and every night and would probably never get tired of eating the food here. read more

This poor review is only for the item I ordered and nothing else. I had the Bi bim kook soo and it was the worse I've ever had. I've had this at about 10 different places before so I kinda know what to expect. The somen noodles were dry and bland (no spicy sauce or sesame oil mixed in) and the side spicy sauce was sparse. The little meat (beef) on top was also bland. And, they used lettuce instead of cabbage on top. There was some Kim chee mixed in but no sprouts or watercress. I ordered the special, panko fried ono. I don't know it was possible to cremate panko ono at a Japanese/Korean food restaurant. Worst fried fish plate I ever got, the pickled cabbage was the best part of the dish. Even worse is the service here, 2 times in a row the waitress don't give our drinks till after the main food comes and we gotta ask for the drinks. Considered a favorite among the locals, owner operated restaurant with a bar lounge. Regular aluminum tables and booths. The owner waits the tables. The menu has local favorites such as loco moco, spam and portugese sausage; Japanese, Korean and American selections; easy on the wallet...they offer senior meals and combination bento boxes. Plenty of food, although their Osaka saimin noodles is soggy, the broth is good and piping hot as I like it. The teriyaki is a bit too sweet and so is the kalbi. read more

We came here our first night in hilo. We arrived after a 5hr layover in honolulu and a long drive down hwy 137 and back through hwy 130. We arrived at Osaka tired and hungry. Hubby ordered the fried seafood plate and I ordered the nabeyaki udon. The seafood plate was ok. The nabeyaki udon was comforting, but perhaps that was due to our long journey. The udon was really good, al dente and not soggy. But the chicken was dry and had a funky taste, which is odd with dark meat. Also, it was overloaded with bean sprouts and bamboo shoot. The soup was good, but a bit too sweet. I'm sure their korean dishes would have been much better. read more
