Absolutely wonderful service and delicious food. TOURIST FRIENDLY. My friend and I were visiting as tourists when we got caught in a heavy rainstorm. With no idea where we were or where to eat, we stumbled into this restaurant, completely by chance, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we walked in, the staff welcomed us with such warmth and kindness. Despite being walk-ins, with drenched clothing, they quickly found us a table, offered menus, and made us feel genuinely cared for. We noticed many of the staff spoke multiple languages. The service was prompt and attentive. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, talented, and gracious...always smiling and checking in. I've traveled quite a bit around the world, but I can honestly say I've rarely experienced service this warm and genuine. The food was absolutely delicious, well-prepared, and seemed authentically made. The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We had dinner here while visiting Vienna, Austria. I made a last minute reservation on Friday night, and I was so glad that they gave us a table. I know right away I will receive authentic food and service the moment I heard staff spoke Japanese. Service was exceptional. Staffs are all Japanese. They were super kind and polite. I felt like I was in Japan all over again. The restaurant is beautiful. Everything we ordered was amazing. Sashimi was very fresh. We had to wait 20 minutes for the shio saba but it was well worth it. I loved it a lot. Unagi rice bowl was delicious and authentic - this was the star of the show even though it was on a pricey side €49 a set. Miso soup was a little salty imo. Black sesame and matcha icecream were amazing and not overly sweet. I also tried their yuzu tea and yuzu alcoholic drink. Overall, it was a wonderful dinner experience here. Price was reasonable for some meal sets. I will definitely return next time visiting Vienna and highly recommended anyone who loves Japanese cuisine to come here. read more

The karaage is absolutely disappointing and so was their unagi Don (eel don) for 40€. The spider roll was good, but not understanding. 14€ for four pieces is just too much. I highly recommend Nihonbashi! It serves authentic, delicious, carefully prepared Japanese food. Unlike many other "Japanese" restaurants, all of the staff are Japanese, the owner is half-Japanese, and everyone speaks the language fluently. My favorite items are the unajuu (grilled eel with rice) and shiosaba (grilled mackerel with grated radish). The chef cooked both of these dishes perfectly! I also enjoyed the tempura soba during my last visit: the tempura was light and crunchy and the soba was very high quality. Finally, the restaurant's interior is beautifully done (and air-conditioned for hot summer days). Since the demise of some of the better sushi restaurants in Vienna, we are looking for a new place. This one attracted our attention, so we gave it a try. Short version: very decent sushi in an OK atmosphere. We made a reservation by phone and even when we arrived too early, our table was available. The service, while very kind, wasn't very fast. We ordered our dishes and the quality was good. The sushi was a pleasant change from a lot of other places as it featured scallops and other toppings, not always found on sushi. The tempura were very nice to eat too. As all the rest, prepared freshly and exactly right. The restaurant atmosphere is merely OK. We were seated in the middle, where the interior was a bit spartan. A place where we will likely return. It would be good when they would accept other credit cards too. read more

Only Japanese waitresses and waiters...means authentic japanese restaurant. The restaurant has two sitting areas. One with tables, another section with japanese style tatami flooring Could have given 4 stars for the above two reasons but as there was no counter sitting area in the restaurant, the authenticity of a japanese sushi/sashimi restaurant was reduced and hence the 3 stars. The food quality varies. Again 3 stars here because there were inconsistency in the quality and variety. Examples, there not many variety of fishes for sashimi...the hamachi was very good though, fresh and full of flavor. The gyoza was good but could have been better if the skin was thinner. The mixed tempura was disappointing as it was cooked in a different kind of flour. Decent range of sakes and wines, specializing in Nihonbashi sakes. However, I found the toku kozemon Junmai sake very appealing. read more

Need to eat it soon again;) You can pay by card, the service is very welcoming and the enviroment cozy. I've been there a few times and it never disappoints. Sashimi is always amazing and fresh, and the hot dishes with rice (donburi) are delicious (have tried the ten don and the katsu don so far, both really good). Service is always very attentive although not the fastest in town, but that's not a big problem if you're having a nice relaxed dinner. The gyoza is one of the best I've ever tried. Great variety of sake, warm and cold (I recommend the warm Ozeki Karatanba Honjozo). read more

Visited this restaurant quite a few times for larger parties. The food is great and we tried quite a few different dishes. The sushi and tempura are my favourite but the gyoza deserve a mention. It's also the best place for karaoke if you have a larger group. read more

I was impressed by the Japanese style decorations. There is even a waiting place right after the entry with sitting area, which is common in Japan. They also have a room with the traditional Japanese tatami floor with eating tables. After we've been shown to our table, the waitress gave us towels to clean the hands. All the female waitress wore a simple version of Japanese yukatas. Me and my friend went there for the Sukiya. Unfortunately we haven't been told, that one has to make a reservation for Sukiyaki. So we ordered a mixed tempura, mixed Sashimi plate (it was huge and they used real crabs meat instead of this fake shrimp sticks) and some hand made nigiris. For drinks we ordered plum wine with soda and nice warm sake later. The taste was delicious and we could taste that all the sea food were fresh. The sea urchin nigiri was one of the best I've had so far in Vienna. It was quiet pricy for an Asian restaurant, but considering it was freshly prepared sea food, it is worth it. All in one... Positives: 1. Very nice place, authentic Japanese atmosphere and cooking. 2. Fresh ingredients. 3. Very friendly service (even they brought us the wrong order, they quickly gave us the right one. They even gave us a complimentary side dish in excuse of the long waiting time) Negatives: 1. It was a really long waiting time for the food. So be prepared if you go there late. One of the best Japanese experiences I had in Vienna so far. This is authentic, high-quality and very fresh. Incredible taste. We had an Udon soup with a fantastic dashi broth as well as cold Soba noodles with Tempura. The sushi roll was real tasty too. I will be back soon! read more

For Asians like myself who are craving some rice and noodles, this is a great place to visit. The decor is like that of a typical japanese style restaurant, and the servers all seem to be japanese. I tried the udon as well as the sushi ume. One of my dining companions tried the sukiyaki set and the other ordered the sushi set. The udon was very good, and authentic. The sushi was good, but admittedly not as good as those you get in japan. The sukiyaki set comes in a very generous serving so please make sure you have a hearty appetite before ordering! Service was abit slow but very friendly and polite, maybe they are abit shorthanded. Also, strongly recommend that you make a reservation if you are visiting for dinner. read more

I agree with Connie B. the sushi was ok--fresh. But creatively boring. No--it does not need to be covered in sauces and stuff, but rolls need some more variety. Restaurant menu seems to cover the Japanese gamut without hitting any home runs. read more

We visited twice before Christmas and had a really good time. All of the dishes are made fresh - nothing is canned or reheated; also they don't use surimi (fake crab). The cut of the sushi is absolutely flawless and the rice is perfect. I especially liked the wine and sake menu which is far above average for a Japanese restaurant. Reservation is a must! read more

Here we go again with inflated downtown prices, slow downtown service, and more downtown blah blah blah. My seeweed salad and sushi (beware they put wasabi on everything without telling you) were tasty but the portions compared to the prices seem outrageous to me. I have tried a lot of sushi in Vienna and know where to go that is reasonable and good all around. This place has some work to do in my eyes. As a first time sake drinker, 11.90 per drink seems a little crazy to me, but I was assured it was a good one. I am not a first time ginger eater and 2,90 for an extra portion of ginger is ridiculous. We were a party of 6 and had a 6:30pm reservation on a Friday night, which was before the restaurant was busy, and it took 45 minutes to receive the food (which was all sushi) and the waitress forgot one of our orders and we never received it. I had to ask for water multiple times and we had to add up our own check at the end. Maybe they are understaffed, but I am completely unimpressed. The fact that most people say it is authentic Japanese compared to other places doesn't make up for the rest for me. read more
