This is a five star review for a Korean restaurant in Vienna, but even in NY or LA, I think the restaurant would merit a solid 4 or 4.5. The decor is clean and modern and location conveniently off of Stefanplatz. We ordered hwe dup bap, which was fresh tasting and they did not skimp on ingredients - thinly sliced lettuce, red cabbage, carrot, cucumber, a Korean herb (it looked like kenip but my husband said it was another one), ggim, plus three kids of fish (salmon, tuna, hamachi) and tamago. I don't even know how they source that herb in Vienna! I wonder if they grow it on their own. We also ordered a bibim naeng myun and naeng myun which we were very satisfied with - noodles were right amount of chewiness, although the sauce was lighter than we were used to, but not unpleasantly so. Not the absolute best naeng myun we have every had (which is usually found in restaurants that just focus on naeng myun) but very good for a restaurant like this one, which has such a varied menu. Generally, the cooking was delicate, more like Seoul cooking than country cooking. We also ordered jaeyuk bokeum, a spicy comfort food pork dish, and it was delicately prepared with a variety of vegetables. Everything was delicious and presented nicely. The kimchi had to be ordered separately, but they also gave us kong nameul and jjang ah chi, which were all very tasty. This is a great option for Asian tourists who miss authentic Asian food. Also great if you are a Vienna native looking to try something new or to introduce a friend to Korean cuisine. They didn't water down flavors, but they have a light touch so it is a nice introduction to Korean food. Eg the sauces were lighter than normal but you could just add more if you are feeling adventurous. We plan to return tomorrow with a non Korean friend to try more entry type food, such as galbi (Korean barbecue). We went with the more spicy foods today as a test of authenticity! Meal ended with watermelon. No complaints about service, which was friendly and prompt. I think they just opened so were trying to please. Will update after we try their Korean barbecue! read more
