I think it's a little of both, perhaps depending on where in the restaurant you sit. We were seated in the front on the side, which we appreciated on a very humid evening. Rather than order off the menu, our server created a sampler platter for us which included popular offerings for each course. The food got better and better as we proceeded through the courses, our favorite was the chicken skewers. Food and drink total came right in the range quoted by our server. One unexpected thing was the pita for our second course (which included hummus). It was delivered in a plastic bag. So we were unsure if the logo on the bag was where it was made. We didn't use all of ours, so when we were done with the course, they took it away. What do they do with the unused pita? Is it thrown away? Is the bag refilled and given to the next customer? Did we get a bag from earlier customers? Two other observations: We ordered a 500ml carafe of wine. We were allowed to sample it first, and the sample was chilled. The carafe we were served was significantly less chilled, and the insulation inside the container in which the carafe was delivered was not cool to the touch. The wine was still very good, but it would have been even more enjoyable a few degrees cooler. Also, even though cuisine is billed as Syrian, our server mentioned "Armenian" several times (this is not an issue at all). The only thing we didn't like was the humidity. If that is a concern to you, ask to be seated near one of the ceiling fans.

The dining room was tastefully decorated, with warm colors that gave it an eclectic feel without being overwhelming. There was also a good amount of space so we weren't on top of each other. The menu is Middle Eastern - specifically Armenian and Syrian. It's broken up into different sections based on type of dish and size, though they also offer a tasting menu. We opted for a la carte, so our server explained how each dish was meant to be shared and gave recommendations based on our party size. We decided to get several dishes - métabal and mouhamara dips, spicy toshka grilled pita, Armenian sausage, and chiche kabab terbialy. We opted for dessert, and went with the cream stuffed atayef. Everything was delicious; I was particularly impressed with how well each dish was seasoned and the tenderness of the meats. It was hard for me to determine what was my favorite, but I would say the sausages and the grilled pita were the best if I had to choose. The atayef had the making to be heavy, but was surprisingly not and proved to be a great finisher. I really only scratched the surface here - the menu is really extensive so I feel you can make several trips and consistently try something new. Service was great, we leaned on our waiter to make some recommendations regarding the amount and combo of dishes to get and he really came through. The outside patio is cute but that was the only positive about our experience. When she printed the bill, made an "are you stupid?" face as she was standing a bit further away from me and basically called me over like I was a dog. We still tipped her (15% instead of our usual of 22%) (my kids are extremely unhappy that I tipped at all) but we will never recommend this place to friends or family coming in from out of town. We visit Montreal quite a lot and frequent a lot of places but this is one that you can absolutely skip.

The decor is spot on Mediterranean, with their white washed wood wall, blue and sand coloured cushioned chairs, and light wood finished table tops. Their logo matches the theme of Greek history and lore too; based on the legend of Minos. I'll need to do further study on that before divulging any secrets of Zeus' family tree. With an experienced Chef, Montreal food influencer Niko Atsaidis, other dedicated management and enthusiastic staff, I have high hopes for this pristinely new spot. I mean it - their washrooms are super clean too and that's rarely the case at any restaurant. The kitchen is open and also spotlessly clean. Moreover, the ventilation is fabulous and pumps out great air flow. From how hard they've been working pre-opening, this should be an exciting addition to the quick-serve food scene in Montreal and maker of happy stomachs. The light Greek music was also a nice touch adding to the welcoming group of owners and staff behind the main counter. Now surely I was hungry from a long day, but I must say their poutine had a great scent and was truly devourable. I was still full from it and the side of hefty and peppery Loukaniko sausage, until late into the evening. They also have proper and perfectly marinated and seasoned souvlaki and gyro which are their staple dishes as their name makes clear. Their tzatziki is thicker than most (more traditional I believe) and filled with lots of tasty green bits of veggies, and happily not the ruin-your-breath-for-days garlicy or repeat-on-you-for-hours type. Their banner-style chalkboard menu is very well drawn out and focused. What they do, they want to do right, and I respect that greatly. Too many restaurants have super lengthy menus - and they can't do everything well, no matter how hard they try. Minos wants to concentrate on things they can create in-house and source with high quality. Their Greek imported olive oil is a big time standout and according to the 'chalk talk' note on the board - beer and wine are on their way. Rumour has it they will be Greek imports - so bravo on that upcoming addition. I look forward to trying other items, especially the veggie ones and honey drizzled dessert. Maison Grecque sits on Avenue Duluth, where it feels like a blend zone between Centre-Ville and where the Plateau feels too earthy crunchy. Avenue Duluth has been known to house various Greek options and this is certainly one of the better ones. They run a table d'hote with lunch pricing all the way until 4 p.m. I barely I made it in there and the server told me that he had to place the order very quickly so their computer would hold the price. I ordered a combination platter with two skewers of chicken souvlaki, potatoes, salad, and rice. It was preceded by a bowl of avgolemono soup. It was a generously sized platter and more Greek restaurants should imitate its proportions. With it came a dessert and, while I don't remember if I had a choice, it was a small piece of baklava. I had a cup of drip house coffee with which to wash it all down. It was a very good meal; that is, if you like casual and robust Greek cuisine. Of the many area restaurants which end with the word "Grecque," this is the most worthy of that label. If I was in the mood for Greek food, I would definitely go back. Most of the time I am. A few rare times I'm not. There was a weird mix up with the order being so close to the end of the table d'hote period. The server caught it and did a quick slight of hand to fix it. The guy sitting across the arched low wall from me noticed it and laughed. Without going into much detail, it wasn't something you see every day. The server was humorous. My husband wanted to practice his limited French and our waitress indulged him and our family had a good laugh. The dishes were delicious. We had pork, lamb, chicken, shrimp, and fish and they were all executed well. Everything was tender and not dry. The filet of fish was fried perfectly. We definitely got our money's worth and had a great time. We love that we were able to support a local family own restaurant that has been around for 45 years.
