More Montreal (1 of 2) I told a good friend of mine they needed to visit Montreal. They did and are still thanking me. This person hails from the United States, but has lived in different countries. In turn, I was told to go eat at Maison Grecque. On a humid summer day, I did just that. Maison Grecque sits on Avenue Duluth, where it feels like a blend zone between Centre-Ville and where the Plateau feels too earthy crunchy. Avenue Duluth has been known to house various Greek options and this is certainly one of the better ones. They run a table d'hote with lunch pricing all the way until 4 p.m. I barely I made it in there and the server told me that he had to place the order very quickly so their computer would hold the price. I ordered a combination platter with two skewers of chicken souvlaki, potatoes, salad, and rice. It was preceded by a bowl of avgolemono soup. It was a generously sized platter and more Greek restaurants should imitate its proportions. With it came a dessert and, while I don't remember if I had a choice, it was a small piece of baklava. I had a cup of drip house coffee with which to wash it all down. It was a very good meal; that is, if you like casual and robust Greek cuisine. Of the many area restaurants which end with the word "Grecque," this is the most worthy of that label. If I was in the mood for Greek food, I would definitely go back. Most of the time I am. A few rare times I'm not. There was a weird mix up with the order being so close to the end of the table d'hote period. The server caught it and did a quick slight of hand to fix it. The guy sitting across the arched low wall from me noticed it and laughed. Without going into much detail, it wasn't something you see every day. The server was humorous. Unlike other places in the world I visit, I really appreciate being perceived as a local here ... at least initially. I was happy with the table d'hote's pricing. The restaurant has a cozy interior that is sort of rustic. Take note that, for when the weather is cooperating, they also have a large exterior garden seating area. Since I was told to eat here, and it turned out to be a positive experience, I thought I would pass this on to readers of reviews. Maison Grecque on Avenue Duluth is one of the better casual Greek restaurants at which I've eaten in the Montreal area. read more

We went to this restaurant based on our daughter's research on online. We were seated in the charming little garden. The service was attentive and friendly. My husband wanted to practice his limited French and our waitress indulged him and our family had a good laugh. The dishes were delicious. We had pork, lamb, chicken, shrimp, and fish and they were all executed well. Everything was tender and not dry. The filet of fish was fried perfectly. We definitely got our money's worth and had a great time. We love that we were able to support a local family own restaurant that has been around for 45 years. We hope to see that they will be around for many more years to come. read more

Filling, solid Greek food. Key choices include moussaka, calamari, Greek chicken, souvlaki, lamb, and even filet mignon. There's lentil soup, feta cheese, grilled octopus and other stuff for pre-main meal. You do need to bring your own wine. The place is quite big; lots of tables, lots of wait staff. Was loud - but we could hear each other fine. read more

3.5 stars. We didn't know it was BYOB so we had some of the people in our party go down the street to the liquor store to pick up some wine and beer. The outdoor patio is perfect for an evening dinner, string lights and plants make the place really cute and romantic. They were able to accommodate our group of 8 and got us seated outside. The menu is only in French, but I think some items you can tell what they are since the wording is kind of similar to English. The food was pretty good, some items better than others but overall we enjoyed it. Portions are generous. Calamari was big but the batter on it didn't really taste like anything special, a bit bland in my opinion but the lemon helped. The mousakka was one of the better ones I've had. It's made with eggplant, minced meat, zucchini and potato drizzled with bechamel sauce. We also tried the steak d'entrecôte (rib steak) and thought this was just okay, definitely not the best steak we've ever had, it had a good flavor to it though, but it was a bit overcooked, we like medium rare and this was more of medium well and kind of chewy. Also tried the d'Agneau (lamb) and this was good, tender and flavorful. The service was a bit slower but that was okay since we had a larger group. The staff was friendly though. If you're in the mood for some Greek food and want to have dinner in a nice patio setting, check them out. read more

We've been wanting to come here for two weeks now and finally stopped by on Thursday night 7:30 pm. It was a bit busy but still got a great seat, service was quick and our waiter was friendly. Pros: great chicken with the honey sauce. Big calamari rings with a sweet tomato sauce. Salad was flavourful. Cons: calamari body were over cooked couldn't eat them Saganaki was deep fried and not what I'm used to. Great little place but once you know what you like off the menu you will have a wonderful night. read more

TL;DR - GREAT for hungry LARGE groups, not so much for foodies, BYOB BYOW Think there is big value in the table d'hote (prix fixe) menu items. The lentil soup everybody is crazy about has too much salt, but I tasted the underlying flavors. Chicken souvlaki was probably the best protein we had, but I enjoyed the calamari too. Roasted potatoes were really good, but odd was the american salad, isn't this place greek? Coffee and desserts were decent, but not memorable. Service varied and the kitchen was a bit slow for us. The place is huge, classic old school Montreal decor, felt like a greek grandmother would be out any minute for a hug. read more

Wow! So happy I dragged my family over. The restaurant has such a beautiful vintage ambiance on the inside & garden aesthetics outside. The menu is only in French but our waiter Yani was more then happy to help with translation & recommendations. The food WAS SO GOOD. I loved how they butter fly the shrimp & cook it. Portions are great for sharing with two meats to choose from on most plates. The tzatziki was quality. Thanks again Yani! read more

Oh my - this is definitely best Greek dining experience in Montreal. Let's start with the fact that the flavors are darn close to what my Yiayia used to make. It was "instant comfort food" for me. It helps, too, that the owner's son made us feel right at home. It makes total sense, as this is a family owned restaurant that has been in business for decades. We've now been back many times. The restaurant also has a very cozy ambiance, despite the fact that there is a LOT of seating. In the summer, I recommend the outside patio. My favorite dish is the chicken souvlaki, which is not only grilled to perfection (i.e. not over-cooked), but the marinade is this mouth-watering-very-much-like-home flavor that keeps me asking for more. This is a place you can go with family, on a date, or even a business lunch. The prices are reasonable and the food is beyond satisfying. PS: If you like wine with your meal, not that it is a "bring your own" kind of place. read more

Great service but the food was like a Greek meal that would be served in a bus station in Athens. There were 4 lamb chops that were literally the smallest I've ever seen. Why not just put 2 normal chops.? The side veggies were cold and uncooked. The best part of the meal was leaving the restaurant. read more

Every time I visit Montreal, I go to this restaurant. The food is delicious and the ambience in the terrace is amazing for an evening out. Pork and chicken souvlaki is marinated very well and you cannot go wrong with the Surf and Turf. I recently also had the lamb which was also fantastic (but you can't beat the flavour of the Filet in the surf and turf). This place is a MUST visit. read more

Had lunch on the terrace. I started with the pikilia appetizer and it was wonderful. The tarama was especially tasty. Ordered the filet mignon brochette, which came with a Greek salad, roasted potatoes, and rice. The filet mignon was cooked medium (as requested) and was so juicy and tender it was mouth watering. The salad did not disappoint and the potatoes were cooked just right and delicious. The service was fast, courteous, and friendly. This is my go-to place when I visit Montréal and want to eat good Greek food. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. read more

What a nice restaurant this turned out to be from start to finish I could not have asked for better service, it was an overall totally wonderful dining experience. LMG is a byow resto with a limited menu hitting the Greek food highlights; delivering some of the best perfectly cooked lamb chops I have had anywhere. The first standout was the house salad with their house made salad dressing, I would return just for that in a New York minute! The waitress said the chef makes it everyday and it has some 30 ingredients, I don't know about the 30 ingredients but at first bite I was elevated to a new sensory salad dressing experience that was mind altering. Ladies and gentleman this was an absolute palette explosion of dynamic yet variegated subtle flavors that will leave you speechless, breathless and with heart palpitations, it did me! Quebec lamb is some of the very best, even if you don't like lamb this would be the absolute perfect place to put that silly aversion to rest permanently. Cooked medium rare with hints of lemon and rosemary the flavor was downright scrumptious. For dessert I had the Galaktoboureko, one of my favorites; it too fell right in line with being one of the best, not overly sweet Greek desserts,I have had. It is interesting this restaurant was not my first choice as I was on my way to another Greek restaurant down the street but the line was out the door and I didn't want to wait. I have dined in many Greek restos in Montreal over the years; they have all been very good, some I have returned to several times. La Grecque Maison will be my first choice when I am in Montreal craving Greek food from now on hands down!!! read more

We almost didn't stop in here because the clerk at our hotel told us to go to another Greek restaurant. But we're so glad we stopped here for dinner. The entire meal was tasty, filling and plentiful. The server was so nice and made us feel comfortable. We love the warm, relaxed atmosphere and will definitely be back! read more

I love them. It is not my first rodeo, and they're always great. I placed a phone order and went to pick it up. I asked for the chicken souvlaki from their Table D'Hote menu, and they usually don't include the soup to go, but the guy told me to bring a bowl or container and he would give me their lentil soup. And it may seem like nothing, but they make the best lentil soup in Montreal, it MATTERS! I didn't even ask for a dessert and he included it. I live in Toronto, where we have Greektown and 100s of Greek restaurants, and none are better than La Maison Grecque. Great service, great FRESH and HOMEMADE food, great overall experience. Thanks for a perfect meal! read more

I came here with my husband while in town on our "mini-moon". This was our last night in town and what a way to go out on a bang. George was our server and he was fantastic- super personable and offered a ton of recommendations to make sure we tried all the right things. This place is also very reasonably priced. We left with a huge bag of leftovers and the bill was half of what we had been spending in Old Montreal. I'm from Chicago, my husband is from Detroit both of which have great "Greek Towns" but this was honestly the best Greek food I've ever had. George- you rocked our world!! read more

We were group of six for a fairly late night meal here, arrived after 9:30pm. It was a weekday and not crowded at that time. We had heard about this place as a great BYOW establishment. And it was not disappointing, as service was excellent. We were seated in the courtyard, which was very pretty and we enjoyed it. Food was good, I had the scallop with garlic/white sauce (if you like white sauces you will like this meal as the sauce is mild / light not heavy with too much cream), scallops were perfectly cooked, potatoes though not so much and were tad over cooked. Salad and lentil soup sides were tasty as well, without being amazing. Other people in the group loved their lamb chops and steaks. I would come back here for sure, especially in combo with a preferred bottle of wine from the local SAQ. read more

Stopped by, largely due to the positive reviews, but we must have hit it on a bad night. We had souvlaki, salad, calamari with potatoes and rice - very standard fare, but each dish was very poor. The calamari was as if was from frozen and had a very dry batter. The souvlaki had an odd, tangy marinade that I did not care for at all. The pork itself was very tough and undercooked in spots. The salad was very old, the potatoes we were served had skin - which is fine - but were clearly unwashed and tasted literally like dirt. The rice was cold and dry. Whatever the reasons for our experience, we won't be back, despite the warm interior, the food was not pleasant, at all. read more

I was disappointed, I have to say. The food was just ok. The service was awful. Although our water glasses were filled often, I did not know that you had to bring your own wine, so water was all we had to drink! After our meal, which was brought out promptly we waited 40 minutes to get our bill. If we were finishing a bottle of wine, that might have been okay, but with water, waiting, it was not. The terrace was big and full, so nice, but with just so so food and an inattentive waiter, the experience was a disappointment. read more

I chose this place for my birthday in February after having been just once in summer. There is tons of room for groups and you don't have to reserve much time in advance. I knew the food was good, and it was BYOW (and next to an SAQ!).Generally speaking, I feel this is a laid-back place where you can eat decent meat (not sure for vegetarians!) All in all, I think most of our table was happy with their orders, although apparently the onion soup was horrible. The proteins were well cooked to order (I had Filet Mignon) and most dishes come with salad and soup, which is nice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Also, their terrasse in summer is amazing at the back of the restau, lots of flowers and somewhat hidden from the hustle of Duluth. read more

La Maison Grecque - Chicken souvlaki plate - Greek Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

Great resto for byow. The shrimp plate or the surf & turf are amazing. But the last time we went, something changed.. the soup used to be much better, but it lacked tastiness, kinda tasted like canned soup(both the lentil & chicken soup). Great for groups, nice ambiance, good price too. read more

Terrible experience. It took at least 15-20 minutes to be served, another hour to receive the food. The scampies came without any lemon, which took another 20 minutes to get, and the waitress forgot twice (it was actually a busboy who brought them as soon as he saw we were impatient). By then, they were cold and inedible. We couldn't ask for fresh ones because no one came back to us. Both dishes (per menu and waitress confirming) were to be served with rice. The person who brought our plates just dropped it in front of us, without saying anything, and we had to call them back and ask where our rice was. Another 15 minutes - halfway finished our plates - and they said rice was out. We asked for a credit of any kind, as why are we paying for a full plate when items are missing? The owner came to us about 30 minutes later, and refused to give any kind of credit though we paid for an item not there. He just stood there staring at us, and we had to explain our question over again. He was so condescending and never had a smile or even apologized for this experience thus far. We were calm and smiling but he was cold and made us feel humiliated. He said if we wanted to wait another 20 minutes, there would be more rice. Keep in mind that this simple meal had thus far taken HOURS and we already finished our plates. He also said the next time we come, he'd give us 3 rice plates to make up for it. Right; he would not even give a 50 cent credit but promised more food next time. How would be even remember us? He wanted us out of there. Again, this was the owner. There are so many better locations on the same street that go above and beyond for customer service, food, and ambience. Also: the deer mounted on the wall and dimly lit bathrooms seal the deal. read more

I went there with my roommate, on his recommendation. After reading several reviews expressing their displeasure with the awful service and the horrible wait times, I didn't set my bar too high; but my roommate liked it (it was his 3rd visit in as many days). At first glance: the restaurant is large, dimly lit, old and tired looking. But I was greeted, and offered a seat quickly. To my complete surprise, I found the waitstaff to be rather quick and attentive. The food was another matter. I had the special; Pastitsio, with a tomato soup starter, followed by Caesar salad. The soup was fine....even good. The Caesar salad......very disappointing. I'm really not sure what a Greek restaurant is doing serving Caesar anyways, but that is beside the point. The salad was not any kind of a decent Caesar salad. It was served in a plastic bowl (pretty cheasie) ; iceberg lettuce (not romaine), store bought croutons (not a deal breaker), and not a hint of bacon. This was quickly followed by the main course. My Pastitsio (pasta with ground beef and beachemel sauce) was served with potato and rice.....3 starches....not a hint of vegetables. My roommate had chicken shawarmas ....also with potatoes and rice....no veg. Both the pastitsio and the shawarmas where ok, however, I could definitely have lived without 3 starches and taken some sort of vegetable as a side. A few carrots aren't any more expensive or difficult to prepare. To conclude: The service was surprisingly adept and quick. The ambiance was sadly deficient, and the food was passable at best. Price....inexpensive to moderate. Won't be back. There are many other restaurants to pick up the slack in that area of Montreal. read more

Went here with 4 friends on a packed friday night and it turned out a lot better than expected. The dim lighting and candles gave off an intimiate feeling. It takes a while to be served but the food itself didn't take very long to arrive. The lentil soup tasted great. As for the salad, it tasted fine but the actual lettuce pieces were a bit big, which made it hard to eat less than a mouthful at a time. Both of these came included with the main meal, which all 5 of us agree, was perfect. Well-done steak, giant shrimp, rice, tomatoes, potatoes, gravy, chicken, mushrooms, everything was perfect from taste to portions. The price was modest and varied between 16$ to 20$. My friends ended up very happy that i chose this place and trust me more now. read more

You will not leave hungry! The setting is very nice and not only do they bring you a big basket of bread to start off, an entree comes with soup, salad, rice and potato (with food) as well as coffee and a dessert. The food was good and was not pricey for what you received. Great service as well, very friendly. Good spot if you are hungry and looking for some fresh, (mostly) healthy options. read more
