Their beef is just wonderful, the carpaccio, tartare, and steaks are to die for. Even their simple dish of noodles and cabbage was beautifully executed. When we went they had a keg of Augustiner dark and white beer that was left over from the Munich Oktoberfest, and a lovely on tap Weiss beer that was one of the best in town. The waiters were great, spoke quite decent English. There was a live band as well that played really well and even though we were at the next table, it was a normal volume and we could still have a conversation about how good the beer and food was.

We have visited this place several times over the years…read more Last time in 2016. Siriuskogl is a short hike through the woods near Bad Ischl - but the way is going upwards to the mountain top. So if you are not able to do a good hike with strong pitch - better stay away. Even the walk is only a 30 minutes hike from center of Bad Ischl, it can be exhausting for people with low endurance. As soon as you have climbed the Siriuskogl´s top - you are entering the "Gasthaus Siriuskogl". They are offering Alpaca hiking, self made bacon, good food - and best of all - they are listed in the "Falstaff"-Magazine as one of the best places in Austria. We recognised that the menu has changed from very traditional to more "modern" stylish food. To be open - the traditional was good enough for us, but maybe there was a change in the kitchen.... Nevertheless, we had a great time. Food is of good quality and the service was utmost friendly. Prices are reasonable. Siriuskogl serves more traditional Snacks and modern style "Deer"-Burger, or "Siriuskogl Bosna" - which is a large Sub with a traditional "Bratwurst" - a grilled sausage in a spicy sauce with lots of onions. Tasty. If you are in Bad Ischl - and able to hike up to a mountains top without needing an O2-tent afterwards - go for it. Stunning view over the valley and a nice place to sit. We did the loop hike starting at 1pm and we're back for an awesome let lunch at 3:30. I had the goulash soup and wifey had a meatball& sauerkraut special. Both were excellent! We washed the food down with a grüner veltliner and a dunkelweizen!
