The deserts were freshly prepared and the best Austrian deserts we had in the city. The Radlers we had to drink both times were more on the fruit soda side, which meant they were sweet and crisp and not bitter. And finally, the food was superb. The best rindgulasch and schnitzel we had in the city. Inside it has a cozy bar type of feel and outside is a beautiful street cafe type set up. The waiters also all spoke English if we needed to speak English, and the food came out very quick both times we went.

We ordered the mushrooms in creamy sauce with dumplings, and they were amazing. The mushrooms were rich and savory, coated in a luscious creamy sauce that paired beautifully with the soft, pillowy dumplings. Comfort food at its absolute best! We also had their signature oxtail, and this was the real showstopper. The meat was incredibly tender, rich, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Every bite was hearty and satisfying, and the sauce was perfect with the sides. We paired everything with a Kaiser Karm dark beer, which was fantastic--smooth, rich, and a great match for the meal. For dessert, we had their Sacher Torte, which was also really good and a lovely way to finish such a flavorful meal. Service was fantastic and impressively quick. They offer online reservations, but if you can't get one, don't hesitate to stop by. There's ample outdoor seating and limited indoor seating, so walk-ins are definitely worth trying. The atmosphere has a great traditional Salzburg vibe, and the location is super convenient right in the heart of the city. Fantastic food, great beer, excellent service--highly recommend stopping here when you're in Salzburg!

The goulash was amazingly flavorful, rich and hearty, and the potato dumplings were the perfect accompaniment. We also tried the deep-fried chicken with potato salad. The chicken was juicy and nicely fried, and while it wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was definitely good. The potato salad was also really nice and paired well with the chicken. We made a reservation even though it was a Sunday night, and I'm glad we did. The place had a great mix of locals and tourists, and seeing quite a few locals dining there was definitely reassuring. The atmosphere has that classic traditional Gasthaus vibe--casual, lively, and focused on good food. If you're looking for traditional Austrian food in a relaxed Gasthaus setting, Bärenwirt is definitely worth a visit.

We ordered a couple of appetizers to share. One that stood out was their trio dip and I particularly liked the pork belly crackling dip that was served with sourdough bread. It definitely is not the most healthy as it was greasy, but super flavorful with great texture from the cracklings. Another one I enjoyed was their Regensburger Wurstsalat. The sausages were thinly sliced paired with a crispy, tangy vinaigrette which was refreshing especially in a hot summer day. The scallions and red onions added another level of flavor and texture. For main, I ordered their braised pork belly and was pleasantly surprised. Th meat was tender, skin was still crispy and the sauce was hearty yet not too salty. My kids tried their schnitzel and they enjoyed it. However, my husband ordered one of their beef dish and I was told it was dry and salty. I honestly would recommended to just stick with pork when in Germany/Austria and stay away from beef because ever beef dishes we've tried were not good. Overall, this is your typical Biergarten with plenty of outdoor seating and tv's available to watch any sports. Our servers were all very friendly and relatively quick Austrian standard. The only thing is some tv's streamed ahead of others so the people who's watching the slower tv were a little upset as they would've heard the reaction of others before they can see the actions.

It sounds simple, but the ingredients were so fresh and flavorful that I'm not sure I'll ever forget it. We also ordered the knockwurst with sauerkraut and sweet mustard. It was delicious with or without the mustard, and we cleaned both plates. Somehow, we saved room for apple strudel with house-made whipped cream, a perfect finish to the meal and our visit to this beautiful city.

Unfortunately, the customer service was the biggest disappointment of the evening. One waitress seemed to deliberately avoid speaking the language the guests were using, only to later reveal that she actually speaks six languages. Not exactly the kind of interaction you expect from a place of this reputation. Another waiter was running around trying so hard to be helpful and pleasing that he seemed to forget what his actual purpose was... sad. Toddlers policy needs to be enforced as sometimes it makes it uncomfortable when the little ones are shouting and crying. Food was a mixed experience. The prawn paella was nothing particularly memorable, while the deer was surprisingly good - juicy, tender, and easily the highlight of the meal. The wine selection felt a little on the lower side for the price level. The dessert wines, including the port and Riesling ice wine, were left behind as they didn't at all impress. The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise - very cute, modern, and automated. Overall, an interesting location and something worth experiencing once, but considering the prices and the service, it felt a little overpriced for what was delivered. For five of us, definitely a one-time visit rather than a place we'd rush back to.
