I walked past this restaurant several times on my way back to the hotel and finally decided to stop in for lunch around noon. The place is quite spacious, with both indoor seating and a large outdoor terrace. I ordered the small filet mignon from their seasonal menu, which came with white asparagus and potatoes. I substituted the potatoes for onion rings. The steak was just ok... the waitress didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, so it came out more medium well than I prefer. The onion rings were very oily. Everything was just ok and not memorable.

Local burger, excellent

Wonderful place with indoor and outdoor seating, friendly and helpful wait staff, excellent food, beer and no rush at all. Food was hot and fresh, location perfect just away from train station and very popular for lunch

Outdoor Courtyard

Great find for my first visit to Salzburg. Wonderful salads, very friendly and helpful wait staff, but the best thing is outdoor dining courtyard. Plentiful spreading shade trees, umbrellas scattered here and there, and lanterns strung all around for evening romantic meals. Very nice ambiance!

We loved staying at the hotel Imlauer & Brau and eating at its restaurant. Friendly service with excellent selection of dishes!

Braurestaurant Imlauer is a large restaurant attached to a hotel and serving Austrian food. The menu is quite large, so you'll be sure to find something you'll like. Only thing is there aren't many vegetarian options so keep that in mind. I ordered the kraftige rindsuppe (beef soup with a cheese bread dumpling) and ofenfrischer schweimbraten in reindle (roast pork with brown gravy and a bread dumpling). The soup was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed how gooey the cheese dumpling was. The cheese bread dumpling was one large piece, so I recommend cutting it up so you get a bit with each sip of soup. The roast pork was nice and tender but after awhile, the gravy did get a bit salty, so don't dunk your meat in the gravy if you want to be able to finish your meal. The best part of this meal was our sweet and funny waiter who was very attentive and conversational. He seemed very happy to be working there and his presence made the whole meal more enjoyable.

Loved my pork dish w/mushroom sauce. We ate outdoors on a beautiful evening. Easily one of my favorite meals in Salzburg. Service was friendly, which I didn't find all that common in other places. Nice selection of beers & wines. If I'm ever back in that neck of the woods, I'd go back.

The interior was nicely decorated. We were a little worried at first about our appearances (tourists with jeans and backpacks) as the restaurant looked very posh and classy when we entered. However, we were warmly greeted by a lady immediately who took us to our table. The service was excellent! They took time to answer our questions with a smile on their faces each time. The food came out quickly, each items were very tasty. Will visit them again if we ever come to Salzburg in future.

Escalope of pork (Vienna style) - € 13,40

This restaurant has a very nice interior and gives off this fine dining ambience, with the staff being well dressed, soft spoken and polite. There weren't a lot of people when we were here, which was a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. One major complaint is that they were pretty slow - slow in taking our order and slow in bringing out the food. I had the Escalope of pork, which is similar to a schnitzel except the layer wrapped around the pork is thinner, less crispy and doesn't really use the same panko and/or is not fried. The problem I found of the cutlet was soggy, and it wasn't a great texture. Everything else was pretty bland on the plate, and it was an alright dish. The sweet cranberry sauce that came with the dish was pretty decent though and went well with the pork. I also had the apple strudel which wasn't bad, it was mushier and soggier than I liked as well. But beside that, it tasted fine. I probably wouldn't come back.

Warm pretzel

We were looking for a nice traditional meal in Salzburg and came upon this restaurant. Most of the diners were locals, so we seemed to have found the right place. We tried the schnitzel, beer, and hot pretzels and all were delightful. Our waiter was especially attentive and friendly. I recommend this place if your looking for traditional Austrian fare.

Service is well trained/professional. A smile is often difficult to find in Salzburg, but the staff in Braurestaurant Imlauer certainly was very friendly and smiling. That is the best aspect of this restaurant. There are menus in English, French, Italian and (of course) German. All staff speaks good english. What was average was the food. My soup was delicious. And so was my Beer-Tiramisu. But my main course was low quality meat. Really not nice. I wanted to send it back, but didn't because I didn't want to spoil the mood at the table. But it was really some of the worst meat I ever had. However, I was the only one that didn't enjoy my main course. Here is a tip. The main part of the restaurant (the part you enter first), is really pretty. Austrian. A lot of carved wood and nice decoration. We were, however, asked to follow the waiter to a room further in the back. Perhaps an 'overflow' room. This room was about half the size of the main room and not at all as nicely decorated. Also, the tables were very close to each other. A group of about 25-30 American tourists sat in this room with us. I lost the 'Austria feeling' completely in this room. Still four stars, because of the great attitude of the staff.

We have two dishes this time. One is Vienna fried chicken, the other is Beef hamburger. We taste very well and the beef is juice enough. suggest the tourists around Salzburg come and taste their dishes.

I had my first meal in Salzburg in here. We ordered a sausage with grilled potatoes and a grilled pork. Both of them were good. The waiter is really kind and polite. He recommended me the local special soft drink. Well I forgot the exact name, it's really tasty and reminded me of the most popular soda drink "beiningyang" in my hometown Beijing.

Ate with a fixed banquet menu. Reasonably tasty, and good service, but nothing to make me go out of my way to return.

Dinner here was fine, but not the 4.5 star experience Yelp led us to believe. Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.

During our first visit to Salzburg in 2009, we asked our hotelier to recommend a genuine Austrian…read morerestaurant - one that did not offer "Menus for tourists" and that prepared authentic dishes. He recommended the Bärenwirt. Returning to Salzburg with our 11 adult children and grandchildren, we wanted them to have a similar authentic experience so we made a reservation at our old haunt, which has been in operations since 1663. Things have changed over the last 16 years. On our first visit, the menu was only in German and our server spoke to us in German until we threw in the towel and admitted, "Ich spreche nicht sehr gut Deutsch. Englisch, bitte?" (I don't speak German well. English, please?) Now, 16 years later, English has become the default and today, the menu is presented in four languages. But the food is still just as authentic and delicious. Taking grandkids who range from 10 to 15 years of age, we were bracing for a few refrains of, "I don't LIKE that! It's weird!" or similar rants, but we heard none of it. All the kids (and parents, too, for that matter) dove gamely into the menu and found things that were to their liking. The menu is large and varied. Main dishes include roast pork, pasta, sausage with roasted potatoes, dumplings, goulash, schnitzel, fried chicken, boiled beef and (of course) bratwurst. The food was good, there was an excellent variety, and it was brought out quickly. Prices for main dishes were quite reasonable, with most under €20. Wiener Schnitzel was the most expensive, at €28,90 but it was an outlier. The only issue I had was the price of the soft drinks. Between our grandkids, they had 10 Cokes - at €5.90 EACH. That was €59 for sodas; more than we paid for all of our beers. My wife was determined that, for dessert, the kids and grands would all taste Kaiserschmarren mit Zwetschkenröster - cut-up pancake with raisins topped with powdered sugar and served with a jam for dipping. A truly Austrian experience that everyone enjoyed, though some more than others. On the night we visited, we encountered several other parties of Americans. I have no way of knowing whether the place has become that popular with visitors or management simply corralled us into the same room. Regardless, it was a very pleasant evening and one I'm sure we will repeat the next time we're in Salzburg.
