    Goulash

The Wiener schnitzel was great. Came with lemon, cranberry sauce and potatoes. The full size was very filling. Also has a nice glass of gruner veltliner. Service was fast and friendly. Edit: we liked it so much we came again our second night in Salzburg. Tonight I got the large portion of the goulash. It had 2 dumplings and plenty of meat and a delicious gravy. Both nights a large tour group came in together. The staff is amazing, a large group coming in all at once didn't seem to effect them at all. Watching other tables the time for orders to come out stayed fast and every table was getting attention.

Really good and friendly service. I got the pork medallions in crème sauce. The Hof is very quiet.

Great dinning place. Food was delicious and good service. Allow some time, especially if you are planning to try the Salzburg Nockerl

Located at a basement of a hotel at the center of downtown Salzburg, good place to come with a group for casual dinner. Reservation wasn't required but I called them in advance anyway. We ordered several small food to share with some local wine. Ambiance is more like a beer hall but I wanted to taste local wine. Server spoke very good English. They have seasonally available white asparagus when I visited in May and thoroughly enjoyed them very much. Other typical bar food was pretty good, we enjoyed food and drinks that night. Reasonably priced with good service.

Food was all very good though a bit pricey. I recommend the tartar as it was delicious. Views of Salzburg are beautiful.

Just…read moreminutes from the ferry you'll find this gem of a restaurant in the bustling "downtown" area. They sit directly on the water of Hallstätter See with views from a fairytale book. But that's not all, the food and service is spectacular. They are fast and efficient (so don't be alarmed if there is a little bit of a wait) you'll be sat with in no time. What they don't rush is the food.. wow. I cleaned my plate. I got the bacon wrapped chicken with the pasta and when I tell you it was the best meal I've eaten in awhile.. I mean it! The chicken was very moist considering it was wrapped in thick pieces of bacon and the creamy sauce complimented the saltiness perfectly. Pro tip: I'm not sure if I was supposed to but I did cut up the chicken and mix the pasta in with the sauce. Overall, a very charming dining experience that makes you feel like you're in a romance movie. Would highly recommend. *** NOTE THAT THEY ARE A CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT, THERE IS AN ATM NEXT TO THE BUILDING THAT CHARGES $2.50 TRANSACTION FEE ***

The menu, like most in Austria, was clearly marked with allergens present in the food. There was not much to choose from as far as vegan options go. I selected a potato and vegetable medley. I wasn't expecting much. When the dish was brought out, it looked a hundred times better than what I expected. The veggies appeared to be fresh and were nicely roasted. I took a bite and was blown away. Perfectly oiled and salted with an excellent texture. This was a great veggie medley. Overall, my wife and I were pleased with our experience here.

We arrived in the mid afternoon and the outdoor seating was almost filled. When we asked for a…read moretable at the front, we were directed inside and had the indoor portion of the restaurant practically to ourselves! No reservation made in advance or required at that time of day. Inside was cool with rustic wooden decor and furnishings. Menu contained many of the classic Austrian dishes that we were looking to fill up our stomachs. Portions looked big but it was also nice to find some options that came in smaller plates so we could make sure that we left enough room for one of their desserts. We took a little longer to nail down our meal and we ended up getting some very basic dishes: The small plate of Austrian meatballs were quite tasty with a savory sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The veal schnitzel was huge and took up more than 3/4 of the plate with a few boiled potatoes. Nice crunch on the outside and juicy veal on the inside but the potatoes were a bit plain. The crowning end to our meal was one of the city's famous desserts, the Salzburg Nockerl. We actually switched from the apple strudel at the last minute so we had to wait a little extra time before the nockerl was served. It's not an easy dessert to make though its main ingredients were eggs, sugar and a little flour. The 3 browned peaks were impressive when served. The raspberry sauce on the bottom provided a sweet add. It was very close to a soufflé with a very airy like texture that melted in the mouth. Well worth the 24.9 Euros charged and the most expensive dessert of our trip. We had great service from the staff and easily accommodate our change our minds on the dessert. We closed our tab at the table and would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting some good food options.

Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.
