This place is very dirty and disorganize I went to grab the equipment to move the pallet because it was blocking my way some guy got mad at me and said do not touch our equipment and I told it was in my way so I to move it. The staff here is so rude!!! We were here close to closing and from the guys in the back to the cashier Tanya everyone was rude! We were there and out by 4:05 pm but not before Tanya said and I quote "Jesus Christ" because I tried to hand her money from the back and it was cash. I appeared to be too close to her. After reading the reviews I thought maybe I should not ask for any kind of assistance however, I found not only the store associates very helpful and nice, I found the customers were also very nice. I was given all the information I needed to find what I needed. I understand some can be frustrated the place is big and holds lots of stuff. I will need to come back a few times to get the lay of the land. What I found in "seeking to understand" is there are people working who may not be just like you. They have different life experiences, maybe speak several languages and English may not be their dominate language. A smile and a thank you and sincere appreciation go a long way. I think they actually hate their customers. Store is always a mess, forklifts zipping around WAY too fast, impossible to find prices associated with products so you don't really know the price until checkout, staff act as though customers are an inconvenience. I actually had one guy push my cart down the aisle with his forklift---he ignored me when I shouted at him to stop. It actually feels dangerous to shop there. I only go to pick up a few things that are very well priced compared to other retailers--like spices. I never go on the weekend b/c it is a madhouse. read more

Restaurant Depot in Glen Allen is a convenient go-to for last minute supplies at bargain prices. They don't always have items I need in stock, but that is not uncommon given supply chain and economic strains. The staff works hard and isn't always available for help because they are collecting carts or driving forklifts or stocking shelves or checking folks out, but given employment challenges these days, I appreciate how hard their jobs are. Worst experience I've ever had at any establishment in my life. Store is disorganized and cluttered; I can look past the appearance and clutter. The management on the other hand is out of this world. Tanya has no empathy and And decided to give me a one day pass because there was an issue with my membership. It turns out you can only do 1 transaction with a "ONE DAY PASS" and I couldn't come back in after my first trip to shop more. I was alone and didn't want to haul 2 carts around so I decided I was going to fill one up with non food items; check out and place all my items in my van and then come back in and purchase 1 cart full of food items. When I realized the cashier took my one day pass the first time I checked out, I kindly explained the situation to Tanya where she was sitting down and never got up once to hear me out so I had to almost yell for her to hear me. She had no empathy and explained that the one day pass is only good for one transaction (which makes no sense because it's a one day pass????) I then explained that I drove an hour away just to come to restaurant depot And asked if she could make an exception but she couldn't because that was "breaking the rules" I told her that I wished she would have told me that when she first issued it to me. I then asked to speak to a manager and it turns out it was the girl sitting right next to her. The manager Jamey or jamy turns around and just looks at me, doesn't ask me what the problem is, how can she help me nothing!!!. And by the way is even further away from Tanya so I'm having to yell even louder for her to hear me. No coming to the front to help or anything!!! I am literally a paying customer and felt so disrespected. First off, I am happy to have this place finally in Richmond. Several things about this place have been very disappointing. They do however carry many products that can only be purchased by commercial supplies. These are my main 4 complaints: 1. The stocking of products is erratic. Also, they aren't reliable with what they do stock. They will have something for several months and then discontinue a product with out a notice to customers. Very frustrating when your trying to plan ahead for supplies. 2. Long lines that are too slow. It seems, the cashiers enjoy being painfully slow. Also, friendliness is lacking. 3. I can often save more by going to Costco. R Depot does offer a price match but it must match the brand they sell. 4. They have to check everyones cart before leaving. Not a problem, but please have someone that can always be present at the door. After waiting though a long check out process, the last thing I want to do is wait again. read more

I cannot express the horror I feel every time I go to this place. The employees are rude; they have no concern with you finding what you need. The place is dark, dirty and clutter everywhere. You can't navigate the carts that well. Truthfully I think a company would be better off purchasing from a Sams club, amazon or a Costco just for the better service. We were waiting for this store in our area. We were excited! But..... Customer service is terrible! Prices are never correct and always should be checked after cashier. They have another problem with stock. I was waiting for Hoisin sauce for 3 weeks. Several times store personnel promised delivery on a certain day and it did not happen. I have been to numerous locations of RD but the one in Richmond is the my usual location. This is a Great store and all the people have been nothing but friendly and happy to help. No kidding one day they where out of jackets for the cooler area and the manager gave me his! If there is better service anywhere than that let me know. Prices are very good, to awesome. I had the worst experience ever at this location! I will NEVER go back. I originally visited a location in MD which was quite pleasant, so when I saw that Richmond had a location, I decided to check them out. I was planning to go on the MLK Holiday (1/19/15) so I called just to make sure they were open considering they're an hour away from me. The person who answered the phone was rude and short with her responses. That was the first red flag. Since the website says "cash and carry", I asked if they ONLY accepted cash. She quickly (almost cutting me off) said, "we accept MC, Visa, Cash, Debit etc". Anyway, once we got there, I noticed they were out of several items that I specifically went there for. I asked one of the employees about the out-of stock product, so he scanned a product that was similar to the item that was out of stock. The price scanned was higher than the posted tag. When I pointed it out, he, in a matter of fact way, said "oh that's an out dated tag" then he told me to come back Monday for the out of stock item. Another thing that irritated me was the fact that once I got to the register, I was told "CASH ONLY". This was after my original phone inquiry and after the lady at the front desk told us that we could use Debit or Cash!! I had to leave my items at the front checkout so that I could run out to find an ATM. It was 5:30 PM so the rude cashier made sure she let me know that they closed at 6PM or our items would be restocked. WTF! Things just went from bad to worse. When I made it back to the store with cash and paid for everything, I had to wait another 5 minutes because the cashier was out of nickles and pennies! Once I got home, I noticed that a jug of barbeque sauce that I purchased had leaked during my ride home. Upon further inspection, I noticed the seal under the cap had been opened/tampered with. Yuck! I had to pore it out, not wanting to risk getting sick due to contamination. And I certainly wasn't about to drive an hour back there to exchange it. I also bought a case of chicken thighs and chicken breast. Upon opening the boxes, a very rancid, sour smell filled the room. I was grossed out. Fresh chicken shouldn't smell like it's been sitting on the side of the road! Eeeew!! My mom bought a box of frozen whiting which was also putrid smelling. The fish pieces were so tiny aside from the horrible odor. The box of whiting actually stunk up her whole kitchen. I was too through. The ultimate was when I checked the receipt. They overcharged on a FEW items. The whole experience was a nightmare! read more

Prices and selection are good, but double the time you think you'll need because check out is SLOW! Always more managers than cashiers. Items that are reduced for quick sale need to be taken to department manager to be priced and cashier has to call another manager to register to authorize. Really slows things down. High employee turnover for cashiers means they are not fully trained. read more
