A great addition to the Albany scene! One of the best places for commercial kitchen equipment and supplies, as well as bulk ingredients. They don't play the loss leaders game. What does that mean? Many other stores in the region will have lower prices on select items, items that they're losing money on. Their game is to get you through the door to then buy higher margin items. On a week to week basis, most things are less expensive at restaurant depot. Especially things like beets, radishes, mushrooms, etc. Employees are always great, and the membership is free, so what's not to love? read more

This store has the most INCOMPETENT checkout ever. The cashiers are SLOW and unpleasant, there's no way to pass with a cart because of the chaos created by the long checkout lines. The managers just walk around and do nothing to resolve the situation. Once you check out (30 minutes at least), you have to pass through another madness where they check the receipt and count items. Also, I don't need to use the big shopping cart every time I shop so some smaller carts would make things a lot easier. Overall, very frustrating shopping experience. read more

The workers have always been sweet and helpful until today when one of the store managers decided to be extremely unprofessional and disgusting with my mother and I , she referred to other Hispanic customers as "her customers" , as if they let us walk out without paying, pretty sure that makes me a customer! No employees have visible name tags and when I called to get the names of the the employees on shift. A woman answered the phone and I asked for the managers names but she quickly asked me to wait on hold then hung up and I called back a few times and got the same result up until they stopped answering I can't imagine who would let a business be run like this ! As a mixed woman , it was not only hurtful but disgusting to see a poc act that way, the manager in the photos took one look at the skin color of my mother and decided to be racist and hateful! I've been going to the RD in Colonie NY pretty regularly -- once every two to three months -- for about five years. First of all: top grade fair trade organic coffee beans for staff coffee -- less than what you'd pay for Folger's in the grocery store. Second of all: year-end accounts -- every transaction for your records printed out on real paper or sent to you via email. Good-bye shoe boxes full of fading cash register receipts! Third of all: epoxy-coated metro racks and commercial dish racks -- extremely important supplies for a growing on-farm yogurt-maker such as ourselves. Not to mention cleaning supplies & low cost high-concentrate Clorox. Nitrile gloves. 5 gal pails of laundry detergent for uniforms. Fourth of all: BAZZINI NUTS. OMG. Our dairy workers love them. Cashews, pecans, walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds -- expensive, but again not nearly what you'd pay in the grocery store, and top quality. Also, no mess no prep, just grab a handful of nuts and people happily keep working. Great perk, keto and vegan. High fiber & good healthy fatty acids. Fifth of all: TEH SPOOMS. You know how you're doing in-store demos and tastings and festivals and yada yada yada and everybody's always running out of spoons? At RD, you buy one box, and there are TEN THOUSAND of them. Buy two boxes, you will never run out again. Sixth of all: the focus on supplying small local businesses, and the awesome diversity of customers. It's like the United Nations in the checkout line, with restaurateurs and store-owners from Africa, the Caribbean, Italy, Asia, India, and the Middle East stocking up on peppers and big bags of ginger and garlic and meats and cases of coconut milk and spices and things I don't even know the names of or what they're used for. (hint: ASK!) There's an energy about the place. I like it. But I saved the best for last -- the incident that prompted me to write a review. As I was checking out last time I was there, the cashier said there was some kind of problem with my account showing up on the register. Apparently, I'd left two small items in the U-boat when I was loading up my car the visit before -- eight or ten weeks before. They'd retrieved them when they were collecting the U-boats, correlated the items with recent purchases to my account, and noted it in the computer. So at the check-out the next time I was there, they said they could either give me store credit, or I could get those items I'd already paid for. SRSLY. They even let me run back from the check-out to get them, which did not take long bc I knew exactly where in the store they were. You know, this was only ten, fifteen bucks worth of stuff. Whoever got the U-boat out of the parking lot could have easily just pocketed the nice little box of sea-salt and the wheel of brie. But no! They cared! They did the right thing! My account was credited. Whatever the perception of the shopping experience at RD other people have, I experienced this insanely exceptional customer service. And, THE HONESTY -- I really appreciate the honesty. And also I appreciate the systems design that allowed me to be notified at the register on a little green screen. Nothing fancy. Honesty is the best policy: The outside of the store tends to smell like cigarettes and trash-especially on a hot day. Some of the workers are careless and rude and others are helpful and nice. Customers can also be very rude to other shoppers and even the workers! Door dash and insta cart make each shopping trip more dreadful. They have some great items and wonderful restaurant equipment! The manager of that department is the only manager I ever see willing to help customers and employees. I just opened another business and I'm in there even more now. A few improvements would get this place five stars! read more

Came here looking for of all things large sheet pizza boxes to use for a hobby project. They had them in several sizes. Being familiar with the commercial restaurant world, I took the time to wander around and see what else they had. I came on the night before a holiday right before they were closing and the staff were in a very friendly mood. The prices are good, but this is not anything like a BJs or Sam's Club. We are talking bulk purchases here. Lots of cool things to see in their meat and freezer sections. I was very excited 2 months ago when I found out there was a Restaurant Depot opening just outside Albany. Even though I frequent the Mount Vernon location, the Colonie one is actually closer to me. I walked in yesterday and I was in awe...it IS a favorite spot for me, no matter the location. I was surprised that it wasn't crowded on Super Bowl Sunday but it was cool because there were NO LINES. I didn't go crazy up there because I didn't have enough room in my car (it keeps me in control) but I kept it small: 5 lb bag of frozen onion rings ($6.35), 50 pack of Sabrett's ($13.45), 16 ct. hot dog buns ($2.72) and THE STEAL OF THE DAY for me...3 gallons of 2% milk for $4.34!!!! In hindsight, I was too excited to actually think about fitting 3 one-gallon jugs of milk in my fridge. The point is I will be back because their sales are monthly and my targets will be: 7lb box of frozen mozzarella sticks for $16.95 15 lbs of frozen sweet potato fries for $17.95 8 lbs of frozen butternut squash 7 apple soup for $16.49 $10 per lb of sashimi grade tuna $2.39 per lb of bacon (18-22 slices) $2.19 per lb for corned beef You get the idea... What started as a a convenient, clean, state of the art wholesale center for restaurants with amazing prices has taken a very sharp decline. Prices have been inflated to take advantage of restaurant shoppers who don't realize (or pay attention to) the price jumps, quality of food on mostly everything is sub-par, and instead of increasing inventory, their Inventory has been steadily shrinking with every trip I take. I now have pretty much reverted back to getting all my shopping from alternative sources because of quality and consistency, and not to mention even cheaper prices. Customer service is good, but that's about it. The depot should be constantly expanding inventory, beating everyone else in prices (c'mon You're gonna let BJs and Walmart beat you?), and carrying better quality products. read more

I was amazed at the selection, as far as the goods being substandard as mentioned above, I disagree. As with any warehouse type place you have low to high quality....it is entirely up to the customer and restaurant to decide. I shop there often and save. read more

Been using the depot for a good year or so now. Many of the positives are to be expected, yet the negatives are what turn customers away. Prices, selection, quality, availability, yada yada yada...Lets talk brass tax. #1.People at the checkout counters---registers---whatever you call them need to be trained in customer sensitivity. Callous attitude or rude demeanor from the last person you interact with as you walk out the door doesnt say much for management above the cashier. #2. Rarely is their a person at the customer service desk when you walk in. #3. Yes the lines have a tendancy to get long, thats when you hear the teller next to the lane you are in proclaim "well I'm goin' on my break." #4. Can somebody please find "Larry" because on numerous occasions when I have needed help on the floor, "Larry" was the go to guy for help----Larry doesnt exist...You get my point...#5. Forklifts and pallets everywhere---I guess the night shift must be so over worked they must do nappy nap? When I first joined this place, yeah ok its huge and all that, and the prices are fair, so are Driscolls and Losurdo's and Pagles and Antonucci's and the restaurant place in Johnstown there on the main drag.
