I'm living in Ottawa now, but every time I visit Montreal, I have to go to Jolee. The decor is nothing fancy, but the food is so delicious. There is a take out counter at the back of the restaurant and people are constantly coming in for take out. The Beef Rolls are amazing. Spicy beef and potato, rolled up and then deep fried. Yummy goodness! The Fish Cutlets are good too (fish and potato). My favourite dish is the Chicken Kottu Roti. The portion is huge and has lots of chicken, egg, onions and roti pieces. The Beef Biriyani is excellent too (lots of beef, cashews, and a boiled egg). I find that the dishes here are spicy. I like spicy, but I can only take a "medium spicy" here. I usually just order mild, which has plenty of bite. The prices are so awesome. The huge Chicken Kottu Roti is like only $7 and can easily feed two people. The Beef Rolls are less than $2 a piece (and they are bigger than usual egg rolls). Their desserts are by the weight and very reasonable in cost. I usually don't like Indian desserts because I find them too sweet, but I love the desserts at Jolee. I usually order a box to go and get a piece of everything. I have to admit that I don't know the names of any of the desserts or what is actually in them, but I know that they are colourful, pretty and delicious :) Writing about this place is making me miss it so much. If you haven't tried it yet, you should go, you won't regret it!

The place might be very small and with outdated looks, and the owners (i think it's a family-owned business) might put the music on tv to the highest level, but the food and price are really worth it. I usually take my food to go, because staying there to eat is kind of akward and I go enjoy it in the park nearby. Chicken biriyani is delicious!

So then we knew we had to go. The wonton was hot and really tasty. It's a small bowl, but there were 4 wontons per bowl. Egg roll was crispy and way larger than egg rolls we get in the U.S. I didn't love the beef spare ribs - the meat was tender but there was more bone the meat, and it was hard to get the meat off. Plus, a piece of bone came off and got into my mouth. The fried rice was really good (not sure if they use MSG, but I hope not) - I couldn't stop eating it. I really liked the sizzling beef with veggies, too. Service was nice - the waiter put together a little chopstick "cheat" for my son. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good Chinese meal.

After watching Trevor James' Youtube videos in Sri Lanka, I got very keen to try Sri Lankan food…read more Nama kept popping up on my instagram feeds, therefore we decided to have a family dinner at Nama despite the mixed reviews. I would give a 3 1/2 stars for its lack of flavors. Our waiter was pleasant, diligent and helpful. He warned us that Sri Lankan food would be spicy. We love spicy food but it wasn't as spicy as he made us believe. I guess our tolerance levels are super different. Our cocktails were pretty good (Trincot's sunset, pink panther and Jaffna Fever). Our appetizer were pretty average due to lack of flavors and spice (fish o fish, banana tree and Seeni Sambol tart). As for the main dishes, we had Nilaveu, spicy and delicious shrimp curry dish (good) with coconut roti (very dry), then the Backyard, chicken curry (only real spicy dish) with basmati rice (good). Then we had sea bass cooked with spices in banana leaf (the best meal of the night), then kathari blast (eggplant dish, delicious but the eggplant skin was very hard, kept getting stuck in my throat), and on the side string hoppers (good). Last dish was vegetarian Kottu Roti with eggs (splendid). Now for Desert. 1) coconut/pistachio filling in a crepe (delicious) and then 2) Pina colada ice cream (Fruits were missing, notified the waiter, who said fruits got rotten, therefore I got 10 % discount on this desert) and then one cup kopi (special Sri Lankan coffee), which was very watery sadly. Every single dish were presented impressively. Our dishes including plates and utensils were made by wood (felt bad for trees). Overall, it's a cute place (like an old house) but there are more improvements are required in terms of some table sittings especially in the main door and hallway; it looks very tacky. The taste of the food needs to raise the bar. Barely any food was spicy (the way it was mentioned) except the chicken dish. With all the dishes, the price wasn't bad, and I also got a 10% discount on my whole bill courtesy of YELP check in. Thank you Yelp.

I wouldn't go out of the way for this place, but I'll definitely be reordering. The bad: The naan. I would be shocked if this was never frozen, and would have a heartbreak if someone actually made this from scratch in the restaurant as it comes across as grocery store frozen/microwaved naan... but not as good. The ok: The tandoori chicken, so bright and looking delicious; fell flat on flavor, but for the price I can't say it was bad as it fit the bill. Didn't like that their JustEat menu didn't include a bunch of the things that they deliver based on the pamphlet that came with my order, but I can also understand them trying to limit reorders with JustEat since they pinch a piece of the pie. The good: The lamb curry had a good taste to it, not spicy, but a well balanced kick of flavor. Overall I overpaid for what I got, but only by a little bit and because I'm frugal. Moving forward I know what more to order to get a better bang for my buck. Authentic? Not really. Based on the area I can understand that they might have been forced to Westernize their dishes, but would have been better if it were traditional. When the naan isn't even made on site you're unlikely to get much else thats made with love.
